I'm wanting to remove the strips that are on the walls of my mobile home and repaint the cabinets. I've attempted to redo my bathroom and had a HORRIBLE time putty-ing/sanding and painting wall after strips were removed. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but you can see the whole line of where I putty-ed even though its smooth and even with wall!! (After 2 coats of paint and primer too!!) Any help would be great!! Arquitecto, escenógrafo e iluminador, es uno de los grandes artistas de la escena nacional. A lo largo de más de trescientas obras, ha colaborado con directores como Margules, Mendoza, Juan José Gurrola, Julio Castillo, Luis de Tavira o Yoshi Oida, por mencionar algunos. En uno de sus ensayos, Hugo Hiriart lo llamó “el ojo más rápido del teatro mexicano”. En 2001, recibió el Premio Nacional de Ciencias y Artes y, en 2004, el Distinguished Artist Award que otorga la ISPA (International Society of the Performing Arts). Recientemente celebró sus cincuenta años de trabajo en el Palacio de Bellas Artes con la exposición Alejandro Luna, cinco décadas de trabajo. • • • ¿Cómo empezaste a hacer teatro? La verdad es que mi primer acercamiento fue sexual. Yo estudié toda la vida en colegios maristas donde solo había hombres. Cuando entré a la escuela de arquitectura de la UNAM, en 1957, había mil alumnos de los cuales diez eran mujeres. En Ingeniería no había ninguna mujer. Como te podrás imaginar, la proporción novecientos noventa a diez era inclemente. Y yo tenía un amigo que estudiaba teatro. Comencé a visitarlo y descubrí que las mujeres más guapas y liberales estaban en Filosofía y Letras, donde la proporción era inversa. Empecé a meterme a las clases. Me fui encontrando con mundos que en arquitectura ni los soñaba. En las mañanas iba a Arquitectura y en la tarde a Filosofía y Letras. Y empecé a actuar en un grupo, pero como sabía dibujar, hacer cálculos, presupuestos, etcétera, me encargaban las escenografías. En ese tiempo, entré a la clase de producción teatral que daba Antonio López Mancera. ¿Y él trabajaba con la antigua idea del decorado teatral o ya era un escenógrafo? Estaba en la transición, aunque la mayor parte de su terminología se refería al teatro bidimensional. El caso es que me llamaban a actuar con la condición de que hiciera la escenografía. Eventualmente, me fueron llamando a hacer la escenografía con la condición de que no actuara. Trabajé mucho diseñando para el programa de teatro en las preparatorias, que dirigía Enrique Ruelas. Él operaba siete teatros y yo diseñaba casi todo lo que se hacía en ellos. ¿Cómo eran los escenógrafos de esa época? Había dos grupos. Por un lado, los de oficio, como López Mancera, Julio Prieto y David Antón, y por otro, los pintores: Soriano, Felguérez, Carrington, Cuevas y muchos más. Todos hicieron un par de escenografías en algún momento. Algunos, como Belkin, persistieron. ¿Y cuándo te diste cuenta de que estabas haciendo algo distinto, que estabas trabajando con otro marco conceptual? Desde el principio. Siempre he sido muy analítico con mi trabajo. Tiene mucho que ver la arquitectura. En la escuela, en esa época, eran muy racionalistas, todo tenía que ser funcional. La escenografía era algo peyorativo. Hablaban tan mal de ella que eso me inquietó mucho. Había algo perverso que me gustó, pero estaba en una encrucijada porque la pintura no me interesaba. No soy capaz…
