Hello there and welcome to 2020 on the blog! The Just Add Ink team are kicking off the new year with our annual blog hop. It is extra special this year as we are celebrating 10 years and 1000 followers for the Just Add Ink challenges! This year the theme is very appropriately 'Celebrate!'. So many joyful occasions can fall under that theme. For me the first big family event of the year is my daughters birthday, so birthday card it is. I had a blogging break at the end of the last year, and was a bit worried I might be rusty, but the sheer enjoyment of playing with new stuff (TimelessTropical in particular, which ironically was not my first pick from the new SU! mini catalogue) and colouring made putting this card together easier than expected. It really is all about the colouring! I stamped my images in a very light ink and then used SU! Blends (alcohol markers) to no line colour the flowers. I should really have taken step-by-step photos as for most of the process honestly they look pretty ordinary and then at the end the multiple layers of ink, blend and end up looking finished. So my best tip for alcohol marker colouring is to persist and keep adding layers of colour and contrast. The more I play with the Timeless Tropical stamp set, the more I like it. I love the 50's-Hawaiian -surfer vibe it has. The co-ordinating products are lots of fun too. The Coastal Weave embossing folder is getting a lot of use, and I love the Braided Burlap Trim too. I used Pool Party for my background panel, and coloured the hibiscus and frangipanis with Blends. I wish I was lying on a hammock right now under the palm trees and beautiful sunshine. As it is, as I write this, it's dreary and rainy outside. To achieve the two-color ink on the trees, I stamped the top portion in Mossy Meadow. Then, very carefully, I wiped off the ink from the trunks of the trees with a paper towel. Then, I used a Soft Suede marker to color in the trunks. Thanks for stopping by! I was waylaid from sharing the other Timeless Tropical bundle cards but here they are now. Both cards are adapted using mostly the same elements from my original class card you'll find here. You'll see all the cards together at the end of this post too. Version 1 is a remix of the original class kit, with the frangipani taking over from the hibiscus in the original. Still loving that amazing bird of paradise paper print too. The frangipani's are stamped in Saddle Brown Staz On ink and coloured with a little watercolour pencil blended out with an Aqua Painter. The sentiment in Soft Suede ink which was stamped off once. Inside is super simple - coordinating sentiment (Soft Suede not stamped off - oops) and another frangipani. I'm so glad I can stamp as many of them as I like, as I'm not very good at keeping the real ones alive. Version 2 - I mixed it up with a print from the Birthday Bonanza paper pack - yes the cute pack with koalas & lions & birds! - plus a Crumb Cake panel embossed with the Coastal Weave 3d embossing folder. Sadly this one's not carrying over to the new catalogue so get it now. I created a cluster of hibiscus & frangipani using the same pieces as the class version, and added some greenery using the top of the pineapple die in the bundle. Are you watching Saturday morning cartoons? Me neither! They aren't what they used to be! Instead, I'm showing you the card I made for today and I'm hoping you are watching/reading! So, yesterday I showed you a card I made from Call Me Crafty Al's June 2020 SheetLoad of Cards. This is an alternative for which she has done another video. My card is a CASE of hers. I used the In Good Taste Designer Series Paper. I cut a piece of wood grain patterned paper 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" and adhered it to a Very Vanilla card base, same measurements. All the patterns are from the same series. I cut one at 1 3/4" x 5" and 1 3/4" x 4 1/2". I adhered them to Vellum that was cut 1/4" longer than the patterned paper. I used my Cropodile to round off the bottom right corner of the Vellum. I adhered the patterned paper to the Vellum with liquid glue. I took those pieces and adhered them to the card front with liquid glue. Alicia bumped her top banner with what SU calls Dimensionals but I forgot to do that. I stamped the sentiments from Many Mates on a scrap of Whisper White card stock and punched it out with the Label Me Lovely Punch. I sponged the edges with Gray Granite as well as sponging the entire sentiment. I adhered it to the card front with Dimensionals. For the inside, I used the A Good Man stamp set and the Timeless Tropical stamp set. I was pleased with how this turned out. I'm entering it in the Watercooler Wednesday Challenge by Marsha. Hi! Welcome to the Art With Heart Stampin’ Up! Team Monthly Creative Showcase. The theme for this month’s showcase is Mother’s Day. Under the current conditions Mother’s Day this year is going to be completely different to any other Mother’s Day celebrations. I'm not sure yet how we will celebrate! My mum lives in a different state and my MIL lives in a little town nearly an hour away from us. I see several FaceTime calls on the horizon for Mother's Day! I guess a mother's job is to keep her family safe and healthy, so we will do that by staying in our little household bubble. The Art With Heart Team are hoping to share a little Mother’s Day love and inspiration with you tonight. My Mother-In-Law loves her cruising - although that might change! When I thought of what card I could make for. her, I decide to go with a tropical theme to fit with the cruises she's taken recently. I started by stamping a heap of images from Timeless Tropical in Memento ink. I then coloured them using my Watercolour Pencils, blending with my old favourite, Wink Of Stella. The piece they are layered on comes from the temporarily retired Nature's Thoughts Dies. I sponged the top half with Pool Party ink, and the bottom half with So Saffron, hoping it would look like sand and sky. I googled frangipanis to see what colours to use, and I found a gorgeous variety called Darwin Monsoon. They are tricolour, so I used Rich Razzleberry, Pumpkin Pie and Daffodil Delight to colour the blooms. I layered a couple of ribbons under the sentiment, which is a shortened image from the Beautiful Day stamp set. I didn't have any Rich Razzleberry ribbon, so I coloured a length of Whisper White Seam Binding with my Dark Rich Razzleberry Blend. I used the same DSP from the front on the inside. Both pieces of Tropical Oasis DSP have been dry embossed with the Subtle Embossing Folder. The inside sentiment is from Timeless Tulips. I hope my MIL likes her tropical Mother's Day card, even though she won't be going on any tropical cruises for a very ling time!
