Hi! Suzz here, sharing a Saturday Step x Step with some fun techniques to create a beautiful underwater adventure. I had recently acquired some of the new stencils and stamps from The Funkie Junkie Boutique and couldn't wait to create an underwater scene using the new watery background stencil. I started with mixed media paper to give my tag a nice sturdy base. 1. Place stencil over tag. Spray with mix of blue and green distress stain sprays over stencil. Take a roll of paper towels and roll over the stencil with sprays to pick up excess spray. Lift up stencil and let tag dry. 2. Because of the size of tag I like to create I had about a 1/2" of paper not inked up from the stencil. I decided to sponge it blue to start with. I masked off the stenciled part and sponged with the dye ink. 3. My next step was to create a shimmery effect to make the tag look more like a magical underwater adventure. I placed the stencil back over the inked surface and sponged versamark watermark ink over my sprayed surface. I then removed the stencil and sprinkled the entire surface with a glittery embossing powder. You can do something similar with clear embossing powder and heating it up and while it is still moist sprinkle a clear fine glitter over the surface. Double click on the image and you can see the sparkle on the ink. I used this same technique on all the pieces of the tag to keep the shimmer going. 3. Stamp the octopus using black archival ink on mixed media paper. 4. Color the image by painting with the spray using a waterbrush. Cut out using detail scissors. 4. Versamark the image all over and heat emboss with glittery clear embossing powder. 5. The shimmery effect was accented with two green gems for his eyes. 6. The blue trim along the top needed a punch of black. I stamped the manufacturing label on mixed media paper using black ink. I repeated this twice. I cut to fit the top and bottom of the tag. I colored with a waterbrush and colored pencils. 7. Create two black stripes by masking the stamped image and smearing black archival ink along the bottom. 8. Cut strips of cardstock and sponge black to match. 9. Add the word adventure by laying stencil along bottom of the tag. Apply black embossing paste through stencil. While the embossing paste is wet sprinkle glittery embossing powder over stenciled word. 10. Heat emboss the embossing powder. I applied the shimmer embossing powder over the stamped top and bottom as well to give the same glossy shimmery finish. 11. Die Cut leafy background piece. Spray with coordinating distress stain sprays. Sponge edges with black die ink. Stamp Manufacturing label over leafy die cut using black archival ink. 12. Attach clear glassy bubbles. Using glue pen paint surface of bubbles and sprinkle with ultrafine glitter. I hope you enjoyed our scenic route via the underwater adventure. The products used are listed below. welcome back to day 2 of the sneak peeks of my new releases for sizzix alterations. i appreciate all of your kind comments…
Every month I get excited for the 1st of the month because Tim presents us with another tag full of wonderful techniques for us to try. It is kind of a mini Christmas anticipation feeling, like being a kid all over again! I love it! This month was no different and you can see his step by step instructions here. Just over a year ago, I was gifted a whole lot of Sizzix dies and paper storage cubes etc by a wonderful lady who has since become a dear friend. Some of the dies she gave me were perfect for this tag! How AWESOME is that? I really built up my "sand" to give the shells something to stick into and to add depth to the bottom of the tag. I did not have distress embossing powder in the right colour for the starfish, so I used distress glitter instead. It is winter here, so this little guy took a long time to crack! But crack he did and oh so nicely! In the photo below you can see his depth too as I cut him from foam board. Roll on 1st of August...I am ready for the next mini Christmas feeling!
Hello bloggers! I've had such fun today making this seaside themed card using the new Sand and Sea die from Tim Holtz, the lovely droplets from www.designsbyryn.com and the wood grain background stamp from Darkroom Door. Hope you like it! Thank you for visiting, big hugs! Xxx Posted with Blogsy

Hello everyone! I hope you had a lovely weekend! We had weird weather here, with degrees suddenly falling way below zero, and even some snow. We had a nice and quiet Easter. On Saturday we went to town to look at, and photograph, the cherry trees which are flowering. We also picked some flowers from our garden and placed at the scene of last week's attack. This week at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog we have a Splash theme - think water, or watercolor. One of my favourite things to do. Remember to check out our guest designer Amy Bethke's post. I did a double interpretation of the Splash theme - watercolors and an under the sea theme, working on a 8 x 10 in watercolor canvas by Prima. I had fun doing a bunch of different techniques for creating texture on this watercolor piece, and I'll show you how easy they are below. Tim Holtz Sea Life stamp set was perfect for this canvas. I started by applying gesso at the base of the canvas, where the bottom of the sea would be. By pressing the palette knife into the gesso and pulling it up, I got the textures that you can see here. The images were stamped with Jet Black ink. I messed up the stamping on the octopus, but could luckily fix it with the help of a stamp positioner. Apply Opaque Crackle Paste through the Speckles stencil, where the top of the water will be. I used a Molotow Masking Marker to add bubbles to the background, and also did some through the Splatter stencil. This masking fluid is very easy to use. After testing that it wouldn't affect the ink, I applied masking fluid all over the stamped images, being careful not to go beyond them since I didn't want a while halo around the images. The water was painted with watercolors and I pressed cling wrap into the wet paint, shaping it to create texture. Leave until the paint is dry, no peeking! In the sky area, I sprinkled both fine and chunky salt. Leave until it is dry and then brush off. Rub off the masking fluid from the images and dots. Paint the images with watercolors, and add a dot to some of the bubbles. Paint the gesso with watercolors - don't use too much water or the paint doesn't cover the gesso well. When dry, wipe off some of the paint from the texture. Stamp the sea weed with Broken China and Jet Black, off stamping on a scrap paper first for the latter ink. To add even more texture, I glued some shells to the bottom of the sea and added Crystal Glass Beads. Smear some Matte Medium on the area first and sprinkle with beads. You can wipe off some of the paint from the crackled foam at the top of the sea. I also painted birds into the sky. The sentiment was stamped on the background. Also paint shadows under the images. The cling wrap leaves a very cool textured look. It is one of my favourite watercolor techniques. I also glued some drops to the background. The yellow paint I used was a little too opaque and I should have picked a more transparent yellow instead. You can see that on the octopus. On the seahorse, I only used a tiny bit of the opaque yellow, and instead mainly used a transparent one. I also glued some seed beads to the background. Add a dot of matte medium with a tooth pick and place the bead into the glue. The beads at the bottom were a little hard to photograph. Since the beads are transparent, they add texture, without being overwhelming and drawing too much attention to the bottom of the sea. Glue some beads on top of the shells too. I really like Prima's watercolor canvases and they give you a piece which is ready to hang on the wall immediately, without having to add a frame. I also really like to extend my scene onto the sides of the panel. You can also do the techniques on ordinary watercolor paper, of course. This is the other side, with bubbles. For more inspiration on both the cling wrap and salt technique, check out my Textured Watercolor Journal Page. I really hope you will join us in our Splash challenge. As every week, you have a chance to win a $50 gift voucher from Simon Says Stamp. You have until Monday 8am Ohio time. 1pm UK time, 2 pm CET to join in. Hello friends and welcome, Zoe here and I'm delighted to be hosting this Saturday step by step. A year ago today my dear husband and I arrived in Copenhagen to begin our new adventure by the sea. I thought it was very fitting to create a card using Tim Holtz new Sea Life stamp set. Here's how... (click on each set of images for a closer look) Step 1: Pick up picket fence distress paint with a brayer and roll onto background stamps from the Etcetera stamp set by Tim Holtz. Step 2: Stamp onto distress mixed media heavystock and set aside to dry. Step 3: Squeeze stormy sky and frayed burlap distress stains onto a non stick craft sheet. Spritz the heavystock with water and pull through the stains. Dry with a heat tool. Step 4: Blend vintage photo distress ink into the edges. Step 5: Randomly stamp background stamps from the Etcetera set with watering can archival ink by Wendy Vecchi. Step 6: Die cut numbers from the stencil numbers thinlits die set by Tim Holtz. Step 7: Stitch the edges of the background with a sewing machine. Step 8: Swipe the edges of the background and the stitching with potting soil archival ink by Wendy Vecchi. Step 9: Die cut 4 x frames from mixed media heavystock and 1x from classic kraft stock with the stitched rectangles thinlits die set. Step 10: Stick the frames on top of each other and adhere with collage matte medium, mounting the black frame on the very top. Step 11: Using a sanding grip, sand the top of the frame exposing the kraft core. Step 12: Blend in vintage photo distress ink. Step 13: Adhere the frame over the background and a piece of black clasic kraft stock under the die cut numbers to make them pop. Step 14: Using the new Tim Holtz Stamp Platform, (yes I have used others and yes this is by far the best and easiest I have used) I LOVE IT! Step 15: Position your stamp on top of the heavystock and press the lid down. Step 16: Open the lid and ink up the stamp and close the lid again to stamp. Step 17: Remove your perfectly placed, perfectly stamped image! No fuss, no waste! Step 18: Scribble rusty hinge distress marker onto a non stick craft sheet, spritz with water and pick up with a paintbrush to watercolour. Step 19: Repeat the previous step using faded jeans distress marker to watercolour other parts of the octopus. Step 20: Scribble some more faded jeans distress marker onto a craft sheet and spritz generously with water, pick up with a brush and create a wash for the background. Step 21: One final spritz of water over the heavystock surface and blend with a brush. Step 22: Stamp and fussy cut an octopus and use as a mask. Ink a background stamp from the Etcetera stamp set by Tim Holtz and stamp over the background, making sure the mask doesn't move. Step 23: Remove the mask. (I usually use mask sheets by Tim Holtz and then store them on the top of the stamp set, but I can't lay my hands on them so I used scrap paper.) Step 24: Edge with potting soil archival ink. Step 25: Mount the octopus onto a gold deco sheet and then onto black classic kraft stock. Step 26: Mount over the die cut frame with 3D foam. Now it's ready for embellishments... Step 27: Alter an idea-ology adornment index clip by dabbing on mushroom alcohol ink and then potting soil archival ink. Add a number remnant rub from the special delivery set. Step 28: Alter an idea-ology quote chip by dabbing on mushroom alcohol ink. Run a sanding grip lightly over the top to further age and scratch. Edge with potting soil archival ink. Adhere with collage matte medium. I hope you have enjoyed the step by step. Be sure to pop over and take a look at the current 'Something Old' challenge. Have a great weekend. Hello friends! Hope you're all safe and well and welcome to the brand new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge ... I can't believe that we're...
I've always wanted to follow along with Tim Holtz' 12 Tags blog and since the FB group The Craft Hole sent a challenge to do it to the members, I finally have the incentive to complete it! If you're interested in what Tim Holtz' original design inspirations were, go to his web at www.TimHoltz.com December 2014 I am so excited! I actually finished a whole year of tags! and did them month by month. Looking forward to next year's inspiration from Tim Holtz. On this December tag, I mixed the paper die cut greenery with some pieces of faux greenery cut from a Christmas pick to give it more 3D layering. November 2014 Since I didn't have the Layered Leaf and I didn't even start the tag until after Thanksgiving, I decided to use the Layered Snowflake die and add a tag for the winter seasons. Hello! I wanted to pop in and share a couple of butterfly designs that I created for this past weekend's Stamping in the U.P. Event. Great fun to get together with a group of fellow stampers and share ideas! This first card was used as a swap with the other gals: The base is created using watercolor paper embossed with Tim Holtz/Sizzix 3D Texture Fades Lumber Texture Embossing Folder, available at Stamp Simply. The base for the butterfly is watercolor paper die cut with two Spellbinder Standard Square dies, also available at Stamp Simply. The butterfly is created using watercolor paper and Tim Holtz Distress and Distress Oxide sprays. I used Distress sprays in: Speckled Egg, Bundled Sage, and Tea Dye. Distress Oxide spray in Speckled Egg was also used. After the distress sprays dried, I stamped over it with Tim Holtz/Stamper's Anonymous "Ledger" stamps using the Distress Tea Dye ink. The butterfly was then die cut using Tim Holtz/Sizzix Tattered Butterfly Bigz Die. The next card was created at the event using decorator paper (gold color: Graphic 45 Fairie Wings from Stamp Simply) from my stash and Tim Holtz/Sizzix's "Perspective Butterfly Thinlet die." The fun and sunny sentiment is Stamp Simply's "Typewritten Year Round Greetings," stamped with Versafine Onyx Black ink. Thanks for taking a look. I hope that you've gained a bit of inspiration from this post. See you on Friday!

Well I'm back with my take on Tim Holtz's July Tag for 2014 (this time before the end of July!). And I have to say, this was one of my favorite tags to make. So many cool techniques to try!! I was in crafting heaven. If you haven't already done so, go check them all out here on Tim's blog. He gives you step-by-step directions for his tag. It's fabulous! Tim used shrink plastic to create the water element for his lovely tag visit to the sea. I used shrink plastic on the top of my tag for the waves breaking on top of my sea. It was run through my Vagabond in Tim's waves from his Travel Signs Texture Fades. So cool! I actually used a less rigid transparency film for the "under sea" part of my tag because I wanted it to have less white marks under water. I didn't have the bubbles texture fade; so I used Tim's Regal Flourishes to create underwater movement like you see when sunlight pass through water. My tag background was created using the same process that Tim used on his blog. Love the Rock Candy Crackle Distress Paint accented with Walnut Stain Distress Stain on the seahorse. The sunlight really makes him sparkle! I used Mustard Seed, Rusty Hinge and Fired Brick Distress Paints to color my underwater "equine". I created my "Under the Sea" sign using a Memory Glass frame. I stamped the sentiment on the tag background and didn't cover it with any of the plastic. The frame wasn't quite big enough for the image, so I broke one side of the frame off and moved it to the bottom of my image. I added some cute jeweled crabs charms to fill in the gaps on the lower frame corners. I used Glossy Accents to fill in the waves of the stamped image along with adding some "water droplets". I followed Tim's directions for the rest of the tag. I fussy cut my seahorse, starfish and snail from stamped images on multimedia paper. And I added my own shells from North Myrtle Beach. Loved playing with the "sand" mixture (thanks for the idea Tim ... more fun!!!). I am going to leave you with one pic of the entire tag. I can't wait to see what you've been creating lately. Thanks for dropping by. -- Mary Elizabeth

Hello Monday, my friends! We have a brand new challenge for you this week - INSPIRED BY A MYTH, FABLE or STORY. I love to read, so this one really sparked my interest! Thanks for playing along last week with our Trio of Something challenge, and I hope you will be inspired to share with us this week at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge with us! I pondered this challenge for several days until the spark of inspiration hit me - the Kraken! There certainly are a lot of myths and stories surrounding this "Monster of the Deep". Stories of old told by sailors of huge monsters that attacked their ships and tried to drag them into the deep...movies such as the "Pirates of the Caribbean" series that play on this theme...and my favorites: Books! One of my favorite genres is Steampunk, and there are some great Kraken books out there - The Kraken King series by Meljean Brook and The Kraken's Caribbean series by Maureen O. Betita. Check them out if you are looking for something different to read. They definitely worked as my Muse for this theme! I worked in my Dina Wakley Media Journal, and really just planned to work on the right page, but I eventually overflowed to the left side. I started out painting a layer of blue onto the page, then stenciling with Simon's Wave stencil and two darker, translucent blues. Next, I stenciled the Ammonite and fish with Prima Sparks paints. Oh, why not add some Paper Artsy Infusions too? I sprinkled four colors on and misted them with water. Details... I really got that page wet, so while it was drying, I stamped the sea images onto watercolor paper and Tissue wrap. Then, I colored them using Jane Davenport's Mermaid Markers. I love how vibrant the colors are! I did not take into account the Infusions would react when I used the Collage Medium to adhere the images stamped on tissue, but you get the hint of the jellyfish here... ...and you really have to look closely to see the plant images here, they show up more as color than anything else. I decided to paint the Kraken in brighter colors to contrast with the background, and added a crown, because yes, I was channeling the Kraken King! I stamped my journaling onto the burlap and added the fish and seahorse here. It might not look like the ocean we know, but maybe this is what it looks like to the Kraken! Are you thinking of myths? fables? stories? I can't wait to see how you interpret our challenge this week!
