The start of spring and the windy weather we have been having always makes me think of Kites. We don’t usually have much luck when we try to fly our own kites, but we have had fun crafting some very pretty ones. When Emily was little we make a Triangle Shape Kite, but this time we tried something a little different. To make our kites we used Bleeding Tissue Paper, cardstock, straws, yarn and some colored construction paper. The girls always love working with bleeding tissue paper, it has a somewhat magical property to it which is always fun. If you have never tired it before we definitely recommend it. First, I cut out cardstock in the shape of a Kite and then Juliette got to work with the bleeding tissue paper. She covered the paper with a little bit of water then placed the pieces of bleeding tissue paper over the water. They like to brush over them with a little more water to make sure they are sticking down to the paper well. Once the paper is covered to satisfaction we just set them to the side and let them dry. Now for the fun part, Juliette pulled off all of the bleeder paper to see the beautiful colored design that was left behind…MAGIC!!! To put the kites together we cut pieces of colored straws to glue horizontally and vertically across the kite. Then we glued on a long piece of yarn and construction paper bows for the tail. Juliette was very excited to help me glue it together with the glue gun. Since we have had a hard time gluing straws to paper in the past I figured this would be the best way. For another windy day project check out the Windsock Craft we made to go with the book The Wind Blew. Follow our ADVENTURES on Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter!

Use this Last Supper coloring page to help your children understand that Jesus shared a special Passover meal with His disciples the night before He died on the cross. Many young children won’t understand all this means, of course; but they can begin to learn that the last supper was about Jesus and His sacrifice.
Lesson: Jesus calls us to follow Him 1. Story: Tell the story of Jesus calling the fishermen to be His disciples from Luke 5:1-11. One day, Jesus went to the Sea of Galilee. People crowded around Him and listened to the word of God. There were two fishing boats at the shore, one belonging to a fisherman named Simon. Jesus got into Simon’s boat and asked him to put the boat a bit further from the shore. Then Jesus sat down and taught the people from the boat. After he taught the people, he told Simon, “Go to the deep water and put down the nets for a catch.” Simon wasn’t so sure. After all, he was the fisherman. “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything.” Simon was tired from being out all night. He didn’t want to try to catch fish again. Yet, somehow, this strange man Jesus seemed to know something he didn’t. So Peter said, “But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” So Peter and his friends cast the net into the water. And guess what happened?! Suddenly the whole net was full of fishes! There were so many, that the nets began to break! So they called their partners, James and John, to help them! And both boats were soooo full that they began to sink! Suddenly Simon fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!” Jesus told Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on, you will fish for people.” So Simon, James and John pulled their boats up on the shore, left everything and followed Jesus. Act it out: Props: Long table, 2 badminton nets, many cutout card fishes (can be reused for craft) Set up a long table on its sides on the stage to resemble the side of the boat. Pin the cutout card fishes to one of the nets; fill up the net if possible. Hide this net between the table and the wall. (You may want to stick one edge of the net to the back of the table for easy access). Place the other empty net on the stage, visible to the kids. Teacher sits on chair on the stage, as if in a boat, while telling the story. When it comes to putting down the nets, take the empty net and cast it behind the table. Then do a “switch” and pull up the “full” net, slowly, as if it’s very heavy. Call 2 boys to come on stage to help you pull the nets too. When the “full” net is on the stage, let the boys sit down and continue with the rest of the story and lesson. 2. Lesson: Good news for today! When we do things on our own effort, sometimes we get little or no results. Like the fishermen who worked long and hard, through the night. But when Jesus tells you where to go and what to do, the result is more than you can ask for or imagine. Like Simon, we have to realise that no matter how good or clever we are, we cannot be good enough to meet God’s standards. But the good news is, Jesus is good enough! And when we trust in Him, He makes us good enough too. Isn’t that good news? Don’t you want to tell other people how good Jesus is? Once you know how good Jesus is to you, you will be like the fishermen — you will leave everything (your own efforts, your achievements, your strengths) because Jesus is better than whatever we have. And we will want to share His love and grace to all your friends too! 3. Activity Ideas: a. Song: I will make you fishers of man b. Activity Sheet: Fish Maze c. Fishing Memory Verse Prepare 3 sets of 9 fish cutouts (total 27); write on each one:| From | now | on | you | will | fish | for | people | Luke 5:10b | Divide kids into 3 groups. Pass each group a set of jumbled up fish cutouts and let them arrange them to form the verse. d. Craft: Fish Card Each kid gets a cutout card fish (can use the same ones used in the story telling). Have them write the memory verse on one side of the fish. On the other side, let them write the name of a friend that they’d like to share the good news of Jesus with. Lead them to pray for the friends who do not yet know Jesus’ love and goodness. ***** Youth Bible Study Leader's Guide Jesus calls us to follow Him Read Luke 5:1-8 Jesus' Life: Jesus calls us to follow Him Read Luke 5:1-8 1. Where was Jesus in this story? By the Lake of Gennesaret (or the Sea of Galilee) 2. Where did Jesus preach from? Simon’s fishing boat. 3. What did Jesus tell Simon to do after he finished speaking? To put out into deep water and let down the nets for a catch. 4. How did Simon Peter respond? How do you think he felt? “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” Simon was tired from being out all night. He didn’t want to try to catch fish again. After all, he was the fisherman, the “expert”. Yet, somehow, this strange man Jesus seemed to know something he didn’t, so he obeyed. 5. What happened next? They caught a large number of fish until their nets began to break. Then they signalled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and both boats were so full until they began to sink. 6. What was Simon’s response to this miracle? He fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!” 7. What did Jesus say? And how did the fishermen respond? “Don’t be afraid; from now on, you will fish for people.” Then Simon, James and John pulled their boats up on the shore, left everything and followed Jesus. · Lesson: o When we do things on our own effort, sometimes we get little or no results. Letter sounds and recognition are important skills for learning how to read. Before your kiddo can start putting letters together and blending them to make words, he/she needs to understand the individual letters and their sounds. Letter matching worksheets are excellent educational printables because they make learning fun. Also, be aware that this collection of educational printables / worksheets are in uppercase letters. They have deliberately been designed that way because many educators recommend starting with just upper case because they are easier to distinguish than lowercase letters. This free collection of letter matching worksheets has 17 printables. They are

We love connecting projects to books, and we're always inspired by the amazing group of bloggers who participate in the Virtual Book Club for Kids (you can also check the club out on Facebook) as the group comes up with some great extension activities each month. This month's author was Leo Lionni. We chose to read and do a project using a book we've really been enjoying lately, A Color of His Own. This is the sweet tale of a little chameleon who is looking for one color to stay all the time, but keeps running into that challenge that chameleons change color. In the end, he winds up finding a friend to always be with so they can at least always be the same color together. I've used this book in the past as a primary teacher. It's a great way to talk about friendship and also about what makes us each unique. My boys have been loving the simple tale and the colorful illustrations this spring. For our activity extension we decided to use cray-pas and watercolors. I love how colorful this art technique can be. I sketched several chameleon outlines onto white drawing paper using permanent marker. (I'm including a printable copy here in case you just want to print one out, or use the printable to trace onto thicker paper.) Afterwards the boys and I each colored in a chameleon using the cray-pas. Big Brother and I thought about ways to create different patterns. Little Brother focused on just coloring his in, using mostly one color. After we were done coloring, we watercolored on top of the cray-pas. The watercolor doesn't stick to the cray-pas, and fills all the white spaces around it. We all had different strategies for painting. When they were done I cut the three chameleons out and we hung them in our play room. I love how they are a set but each one unique. That's part of what can also make this project a great classroom activity, especially for the start of a school year. Or turn it into a fun family project, with each family member creating a chameleon to represent themselves. What Leo Lionni books does your family enjoy? Have you read this one yet? This post may also have been shared at some of these terrific link parties.

I am EXTREMELY excited!!!!!! My excitement stems from the fact that this upcoming Sunday begins my NEW Quarter with the KIDDOS. We are continuing to EXPLORE Bible History. We will be wearing our "Explorer Hats" and singing "We Are Bible Explorers." We do this at the beginning of each NEW Quarter. Since we left off with David and Goliath...we will be picking up with David and Jonathan. I love the story of David and Jonathan because it is truly a story of BEST friends. We learn so much about TRUE friendship when we study the friendship of David and Jonathan. Home Connection Workbook We have a few NEW additions to this Quarter's Material. I have added a "HOME CONNECTION" Workbook. I hope the Workbook will spawn more interaction between the parents and children as they review the lessons that they have learned. I am looking forward to seeing the response to the new Workbook. I will keep you posted on the reaction of both the PARENTS and the Kiddos. Memory Verse Sticker Page The inside of the Home Connection Workbook is fill with Puzzles, Memory Verse Work, Questions, etc. I have also included a Memory Verse Sticker Page....The Kiddos will place a sticker in each square IF they know their Memory Verse. Assigned on 1st Sunday Assigned on 2nd Sunday THIS is this weeks and next weeks Home Connection Workbook Pages. The Kiddos will have from Sunday to Sunday to complete the pages. (I am currently teaching each lesson for 2 weeks.) The first week we introduce the lesson...the second week we will REVIEW the lesson, making sure the KIDDOS really understood what they learned. Now on with what we will be doing during class THIS Sunday. To introduce the lesson on David and Jonathan I am going to ask the KIDDOS if they know what the meaning of the word FRIENDSHIP. We will add the word FRIEND to our WORD-WALL. I will also, ask them if they know what the word JEALOUS means. We will add that word to our WORD-WALL too. We will have several CARDS to add to our Who? What? When? Where? Why? and How? WALL. Because, I like to make sure the KIDDOS can answer these questions about our lessons we have a entire WALL of our Classroom dedicated to the Who? What? When? Where? and Why? of each lesson. As we get into the story I will be using these visuals. They were easily made...I used a clip art program, a bit of manipulation of the pictures then printed and laminated them. Because, I wanted them to stand up, I stuck them to these picture easels that I bought at the Dollar Tree. I LOVE having eye catching VISUALS.... We will also be singing the song, "DAVID AND JONATHAN WERE BEST FRIENDS." by: rld. The KIDDOS will be making their OWN Quiver as their TAKE HOME project. These are made from PRINGLES and Yarn. The arrows are made from a variety of colored cardstock. Each arrow has a quality of GOOD FRIENDSHIP on it. The kiddo will color and add the stickers. I know the BOYS are going to be VERY EXCITED about this activity. :) Our Memory Verse is Proverbs 17:17. I thought this was a PERFECT MEMORY VERSE for this lesson. The KIDDOS get a MV card just like this one. They can color the picture and take it home as a reminder of the need to MEMORIZE their Memory Verse. During Class we will sing this to the tune: Frere Jacques. I have added a "NEW" place to our MAP. I added "The Stone of Ezel" which is said to be in a field between Ramah and Nob. I love having a KID friendly map up in our room. Review Game is a BOW and ARROW Game!!! Questions For Our Review Game Target For Our Review Game Our REVIEW game will surly be very exciting!!! The kiddos will get an opportunity to SHOOT an ARROW!!! My plans are for the kiddos to ANSWER one of the question from the lesson (I printed them on ARROWS to go along with the lesson.) after which they will get the opportunity to shoot an arrow at the target! (The bow and arrow are a nerf style product. I purchased it at our local Walmart.) Next Sunday we will be REVIEWING this lesson and doing our EXPLORER JOURNAL Activity!!! The Explorer Journal Activity will consist of a Picture of David and Jonathan....the Kiddos will color it and add a BOW (made out of popcicle sticks) and a small arrow. I LOVE their LOVE of their Explorer Journals. I have had parents tell me that their past Explorer Journals have become some of their FAVORITE books to look through. I love it because it takes all those projects that have a tendency to end up in the floorboard of the car or left behind in the pew and keeps them in a SPECIAL place for the children to TREASURE! We are looking forward to an exciting Quarter. Please keep checking back and see the exciting times we are having during BIBLE CLASS. Blessings, Ronda

Hello, friends! My kindergarten is wrapping up a self-portrait lesson and it's one that I've never done before with them. I'm super happy with the result and I wanted to share with y'all. Mostly I wanted to share some of the tips and tricks and things I learned in hopes that it may help you, if you decide to go down this rainbow/self-portrait path. But first, let's chat about where this lesson falls in my kindergarten line of projects. We start the school year in kindergarten with Line Sculptures. From there, we moved on to Dot Painting. Following this, we painted Rainbows! Now, in the past, I completed this Line Unit before moving on but the last couple of years I've mixed it up a bit. I will bounce back to those lessons but for now, we are painting. We've also not finished our rainbows (by adding the sun and clouds) but that will happen this week. My favorite supply for painting with kindergarten are tempera cakes. This is a little what my set up looks like. I always serve up paint (or have the kids get their own paint) on trays. This helps us carry the supplies easier and contain the mess incase there are spills. If you know me and my paint set up, then you know that we normally use dog dishes for water and a sponge. But sometimes we are using them for other things so this is my back up set up: water pot (these are my favorite and you can find them here, they are NO SPILL!), sponge for 'drying' our brush (sponges are called Dirty Ole Sponge Bob and I get them from the Dollar Tree) and a tray to hold the sponges (old sushi dishes!). My tempera cakes are usually a mess. You can purchase tempera cakes in a set but they always end up getting crumbly or with a big hole in the middle. The tray the cakes come in is crap and a thing plastic. I noticed huge messes of paint left on tables a couple of years ago...which was from the thing plastic tray splitting and paint leaking out the bottom! So now I NEVER order the whole tray, just the refills like I do my pan watercolor paint. I love Prang's tempera cakes as well as Jack Richesons. I order all the colors in the rainbow. I use muffin tins and plastic condiment cups to create a palette for the kids. When we are painting our skin tone, the palette is changed to have only red, orange, yellow, white, brown and black. For painting rainbows, this is how I set up the palette. We spend a LOT of time listening to this song and this song as well as learning the ASL for all of the colors in the rainbow! Then we hit the ground running and paint our rainbows. Even in 30 minutes (the length of all my art classes), I always have early finishers! So early finishers are given another sheet of paper and told to paint a rainbow pattern. We wrap those up the following art class. Hot Tip: Cut 2" off the paper that you plan to frame that way it's ready to frame on traditional size construction paper! I plan to frame these self-portraits on black construction paper 12"X18". The following art class, we learn what a self-portrait is! This video REALLY helped and we loved it! After listening, dancing and singing with the song, I demonstrated drawing a large self-portrait as the kids directed me. I asked "what should I draw first? What shape should I use? How big should I draw?" Afterward, they were given paper and a permanent marker (I wished I would have had them use a regular black marker as the line would have been thicker). They did an amazing job! The following art class, we learned all about scissor safety! And how to carry and wear our scissors correctly. Below is a video on how I explain scissor safety to my students (if you cannot see this video, try viewing this blog post from your laptop): After cutting out, kindergarten glued their selfies to their rainbow backgrounds! This is definitely a project I'll be doing again!
