Justicia Social. Los obreros, por ser hijos de Dios, tienen una dignidad que los empresarios deben respetar, pues son más importantes que las ganancias o que el trabajo mismo. Por eso, al hablar del trabajo obrero, no se le puede considerar como una mercancía, que se compra y se vende, sino como una actividad ordenada a proveer a las necesidades de la vida y,en concreto, a su conservación. El trabajo tiene una dimensión social por su íntima relación con la familia, pues hay que dar un salario familiar, que sirva para el sustento de toda la familia. En la encíclica Laborem exercens, sobre el trabajo humano, Juan Pablo II afirma la prioridad del trabajo frente al capital (LE 121). “Mediante el trabajo, el hombre no sólo transforma la naturaleza, sino que se realiza a sí mismo como hombre, es más,en cierto sentido, se hace más hombre” (LE 9). “El trabajo está en función del hombre y no el hombre en función del trabajo” (LE 6). Ciertamente, todos debemos trabajar y tenemos derecho a un trabajo digno para realizarnos como personas y ganar el sustento de la familia. “El que no quiera trabajar, que no coma” (2 Tes 3, 10). Sin embargo, ante tantos pobres que no tienen trabajo y no tienen para comer, no sólo debemos ayudar con lo superfluo, sino incluso, a veces, hasta con lo necesario para darles lo indispensable para vivir. Como dirían algunos Santos Padres, lo que les sobra a los ricos es un robo a aquellos pobres, que no tienen ni lo indispensable para vivir. “Es preciso satisfacer, ante todo de las exigencias de la justicia, de modo que no se ofrezca como ayuda de caridad lo que ya se debe a título de justicia. Como diría S. Juan Crisóstomo: “No hacer participar a los pobres de los propios bienes es robarles y quitarles la vida. Lo que poseemos no son bienes nuestros, sino los suyos” (Cat 2446). Los bienes del mundo están destinados a todos los hombres. La propiedad privada “no es un derecho absoluto e intocable, sino que está subordinada al bien común” (LE 14). Por eso, sobre toda propiedad privada grava siempre una hipoteca social y, si el bien común lo exige, no hay que dudar ante la expropiación, hecha en debida forma. Ladoctrina social de la Iglesia propone “la copropiedad de los medios de trabajo y la participación de los trabajadores en la gestión de la empresa y en sus beneficios de acuerdo al llamado accionariado y otros métodos semejantes” (LE 14). Ahora bien, para defender los derechos de los trabajadores, la Iglesia reconoce el derecho a la huelga sin violencia y sin imposiciones totalitarias. La huelga, que puede ser moralmente legítima, resulta inaceptable, cuando va acompañada de violencia o también cuando se lleva a cabo en función de objetivos no directamente vinculados con las condiciones del trabajo o contrarias al bien común (Cat 24352436). No olvidemos que es contrario a la ley moral el infligir voluntariamente daños a las propiedades privadas o públicas. Igualmente es moralmente injusto el retener deliberadamente bienes prestados, objetos perdidos, defraudar en el ejercicio del comercio, pagar salarios injustos, elevar los precios, especulando con la ignorancia o la necesidad ajenas, la apropiación y el uso privado de los bienes sociales de una empresa, los trabajos mal hechos, el fraude fiscal, la falsificación de cheques y facturas, los gastos excesivos, el despilfarro, no pagar a los organismos de seguridad social las cotizaciones establecidas por las autoridades legítimas, etc. (Cat 2409). En una palabra, todo lo que lesione los derechos de los demás. Por eso, procuremos compartir nuestros bienes, especialmente con los más necesitados, pues el compartir, es una exigencia cristiana, no sólo de caridad sino también de justicia.
