The Old Norwegian Cast On is similar to the common long-tail cast on method but involves a few extra steps. Those who are familiar with the German Twisted Cast On might recognize itas the same cast on method with a (literal) small twist. We recommend being intimately familiar with the longtail cast on before attempting this method. Making this cast on in an even gauge creates a stretchy edge that resists curling, which is great for knitting socks, hat brims, and other fitted knit items. However, this cast on method also uses more yarn, so make sure you have a very long tail before you begin! With this tutorial, you'll learn easily how to cast on for knitting with an insanely handy method.
As today is #WorldMental HealthDay it seems a good time to ask the question why do I knit, or more specifically I guess “Why am I a knitter”. Anyone can knit of course, it’s a learned skill using needles and yarn. But of those who are able to physically knit, a smaller subsection would define them

I learned this little trick from my friend Mel and it’s so helpful for those of us who can never remember if they clicked the row counter. After the first 10 rows take a piece of scrap yarn and lay it across your knitting between two stitches. Continue knitting. 10 rows later pause at the same point and flip the scra
“Miss Woodhouse” is the fourth in the “Jane Austen Heroines” series. Like the others it is of a crescent shape with intricate lace border running at the bottom and lacy body. There are two samples shown one knitted in sport weight (light purple “Silver Rose”) and the other (pink “Chinese Anemone”) in fingering yarn. Both yarns have 50% silk content which gives both shawls beautiful sheen and drape. In each instance the yarn requirements are just under 2 skeins. “Miss Woodhouse” is knitted border first and later stitches are picked up for the body and short rows are used to shape it. The size given is 61” wingspan and 22” depth along centre back (for both shawls), however, it is very easy to change (all instruction are given). For those who like beads there is an opportunity to use them as edging lends itself to beading. To finish the piece I have used crochet hook to make the top edge stable and attractive, however, it can be finished by couple of plain knitted rows and a bind off if crochet hook is not your thing;) “Miss Woodhouse” has been created for intermediate and advanced knitters. There is patterning on both sides, short rows, some twisted stitches and little cables all of which make knitting interesting and engaging. The pattern is written and charted. “Miss Woodhouse” is very elegant and stylish, perfect for an opera or any other special occasion!
A German translation is available if you download the pattern.****There seems to be some confusion on how many stitches to cast on for this shawl. You will cast on 11 stitches. It does state this at the beginning of the pattern but I thought that I would state it here as well to help ya'll out. Happy knitting!****This shawl is perfect for those who love garter stitch and want something simple but just complex enough to keep you interested. The contrasting vertical stripes add interest and the simple garter stitch lace border gives it a nice touch of lace without being too fussy. The shawl can be worked in two shapes: a long slender slightly curved shawlette and a triangular shawl. Directions for both are included. Also the border can be knit as you go or added on later. Here is a tutorial for how to add the border on later.

This gorgeous little pattern is quick and easy. Little Angel Bookmark makes a great gift for those in need of prayers or comfort.
I was writing this pattern and my husband looked over and said it looked like something Danaeris from Game of Thrones would wear, so of course I had to call it Kaleesi! (Sorry for those of you who are not familiar with the show. This woman is the “Mother of Dragons”) This pretty shawlette uses some very easy short rows to create the beautiful fan shapes at the edges. It looks like a very difficult pattern, but is REALLY EASY to memorize! Once you get the hang of the short row, it goes so quickly! This pattern was one of the most popular kits from Make Me Kits. Now you can make it with whichever yarns you like! Basically you need about 250 yards of a color-changing fingering weight, and another 250 yards of a solid color that can be fingering or as heavy as sport weight. You do not need to count stitches for this pattern! No purling! Seriously, you get a magnificent finished product and people will think you are a knitting genius. Finished size is minimally 12” by 68” and curves gracefully, but you can make it larger by continuing in pattern until it is as wide and long as you like.
