A syllabus can be a pretty boring document, and going over it with your class can be equally dull. One way I've found to start expectations for my theater classes with excitement is to jazz-up my syllabus. This year, I'm giving out a mock playbill as my syllabus. After requests on Instagram, I've made the file editable and available for licensing here. This ZIP file contains two Powerpoint files: the cover and the insides. You can print your own cover or get it professionally printed (recommended). Then edit, print, and run-off your insides and assemble with a long-arm stapler. Tada! The layout of this syllabus includes space for: Cover Page Course Goals Course Materials and Cell Phone Policy Rules, Mission Statement, Grades, and Academic Integrity Sick Policy and Late Policy with Notes pages Extra Credit Show Dates Back Cover Ad Space This file is fully editable so you can replace any section to fit your needs! A PDF document with instructions includes directions for updating the cover to include your mascot and printing using Windows. I do not own a Mac and therefore cannot offer advice for printing on OS.
I make sure to sign up for today's 'Spin to Win' with This Morning and memorise the phrase of the day. While eating Weetabix for breakfast, I fantasise about Holly and Phil ringing me and imagine what I'd spend the money on. (Spoiler: they never ring.)

"The Spiritual Mind," by Robert Fludd (1617) DIMENSIONS • 9" x 12" (Image: 6.25" x 10.5") • 12" x 16" (Image: 8.31" x 14") • 16" x 20" (Image: 10.13" x 17") • 20" x 30" (Image: 15.5" x 26") • 24" x 36" (Image: 18.5" x 31") Archival Inkjet on Fine Art Paper Smooth Surface - Matte Finish - Inset Borders ABOUT THE ARTWORK ----------------------------- This metaphysical map of the mind was published in Robert Fludd’s "Utriusque Cosmi…Historia" (1617-1621), or “History of the Two Worlds.” In the Western Hermetic tradition, the microcosm of human existence is encompassed by the macrocosm of the divine. Correspondences between these higher and lower orders of reality allow truths about one to be inferred from knowledge of the other. By application of mind (Mens), intellect (Intellectus) and reason (Ratio) to the worlds sensible (Mundus Sensibilis) and imaginable (Mundus Imaginabilis), the figure in Fludd’s diagram opens a channel of communication with God and the angels. ART-CENTRIC DESIGN ----------------------------- Vintage art is not standardized. The original works are usually too long, or too short, to neatly fill a store-bought frame. Most shops arbitrarily crop the artwork to match, leading to claustrophobic prints with missing or partial elements. These modifications — sometimes trivial, sometimes ludicrous — are not always shown in the product photos. We believe that the purpose of art is not to fill a frame; it is the purpose of a frame to showcase the art. Our prints have inset borders that make up any differences in proportion between the artwork and a standard frame, so that you can experience the art as the artist intended. They look sharp in beveled mats, may be float mounted, or inserted directly into standard frames; the borders providing a mat-like accent around the image. There are many styles from which to choose. Framing is a fun, creative process that enhances the artwork and livens your space for years to come. Should you like any advice, feel free to reach out. CUSTOMIZATION AND IMAGE REQUESTS ----------------------------- We are happy to customize our prints to fit your frame. Borderless prints may require the artwork to be cropped to fit a new aspect ratio. In such cases, we will provide a mockup to ensure that the final product meets with your approval. If you’re looking for an artwork that is not in our catalog, feel free to ask if we can provide it. We will print any public domain or openly licensed image that is available in high resolution. MUSEUM QUALITY ----------------------------- Giclée process prints are the gold standard in fine art reproduction. We use a matte finish, cotton fiber paper to maximize detail while eliminating glare. Our prints display a wide color gamut, deep blacks and beautiful tonal transitions. Produced using only archival materials, they will not fade or yellow, but maintain their original quality for as long as you own them. HANDMADE DECLARATION ----------------------------- To assure artistic quality, all of our production and design is strictly in-house. Every print has been proofed, calibrated and inspected for defects. We do not drop ship, resell or make use of third-party production partners. SHIPPING AND PACKAGING ----------------------------- All orders ship within one business day via USPS First Class, Priority Mail or Priority Mail Express. Sizes 9” x 12” and 12” x 16” ship in a flat configuration, unless combined with larger prints, which require tubes. We will replace any lost or damaged items at no expense to you. HAPPINESS GUARANTEE ----------------------------- We will promptly address any issues that may arise with your order. If you are unhappy with your print for any reason, you are welcome to return it for a full refund.

I feel like we are finally starting to get into a normal routine. Those first few weeks of school are all about establishing routines and some groups just take longer than others. ;) In reading this week, we were talking all about families. We compared and contrasted our families to the family of Camila in our anchor text My Family from the Journeys reading series. We added this little flap book to our new Interactive Reading Notebooks. We are all about reading like detectives. This week, I introduced them to their first Reader's Case File. They were so excited about it! They were begging to do another one the next day. This will be a weekly routine for them. Each case file has three text dependent questions in which they have to provide text evidence to support their answer. We did it all together this week, because this skill takes LOTS of modeling. They were so excited to get their little magnifying glasses, too. Each week, I will introduce some new detective garb to keep it exciting. As you can see, we need some handwriting and proofreading help! They are using random uppercase letters like crazy! We will work on breaking that more this week. Our amazing intervention team performed their DRA tests this week. That made it the perfect time to introduce how to choose a book. I always read the book Those Shoes to them before we choose books. We then made the little sneakers above. I let them choose 2 on their level and then one of high interest from my classroom library. They also get to choose 3 from the school library so they always have 6 books to choose from in their chair pockets. We also talked about building our reading stamina. They usually have no idea what that is when I get them, so I like to read the book Dex: The Heart of a Hero to explain what stamina is. The first day we practiced, their goal was two minutes but they made it four minutes so we shaded in our graph. Now I have students asking, "When can we work on our stamina, Mrs. Gannon?" Super cute! I like to display this poster in our classroom library for students to refer to during centers. We also love to make the Stamina Superheroes below! We did a little sentence, not a sentence sort to introduce sentences this past week. They did really well with this! We worked a little on run-on sentences, too. You can see the original idea here. In math, we have been working on subtraction strategies, and I forgot to take pics! Math is first thing in the morning, so I don't think I am quite awake yet! We used lots of activities from this awesome unit. I don't know what I would do in math without Amy Lemons' units! You’ve probably heard it a million times. Relationships are at the core of successful teaching. You can’t expect students to care about learning until they know you care about them. So it's important to build a strong connection with students. When students feel connected to their teacher and to one another they perform better socially

Anguish is an 1878 oil painting by the artist August Friedrich Schenck. Perhaps Schenck's most famous painting, it is held by National Gallery of Victoria, in Melbourne, Australia. The painting was an early acquisition by the gallery, just a few years after it was founded, and has been voted the most popular of the gallery's 75,000 works on two occasions, in 1906 and 2011. The painting depicts a ewe bleating in grief, her breath freezing in the cold air. The mother sheep is standing over the dead body of her lamb, a trickle of blood running from its mouth into the white snow, in a scene reminiscent of a pietà. The pair of sheep are encircled by a murder of black crows that crowd ominously around under a dull grey cloudy winter sky, waiting for an opportunity to scavenge the carcass. I’ve been learning a lot this year, and one fundamental difference in what I’ve come to understand is that there is a difference between classroom management and behavior management. The journey to understanding this fundamental truth about teaching at risk learners in a high poverty school has been powerful. What is classroom management? Classroom management is...Read More »

This artwork titled " Retour de la Jungle, Tondano: Celebes" (Return from the Jungle, Tondano: Celebes) 1948 is an original color woodcut by French artist Paul Jacoulet, 1896-1960. It is hand signed in pencil by the artist, with the red stamp under the signature, stamp numbered 169/350 on the back. The woodblock image is 15.5 x 11.75 inches, framed is 25.55 x 21.5 inches. It is beautifully custom framed in a wooden gold frame, with gold color spacer and fabric matting. It is in very good condition, the colors are fresh and bright. About the artist: Paul Jacoulet is best known for his striking portraits of the natives of Asia and the South Seas. He designed over 160 woodblock* prints and oversaw their production in his workshop. Following in the collaborative tradition of ukiyo-e* printmaking, Jacoulet recruited talented carvers and printers who could duplicate the delicate lines of his drawings and watercolors. The exquisite quality of Jacoulet's prints was due in great part to his exacting standards, and his use of costly materials like mica, crushed pearl and powdered metals. Born in Paris in 1896, Jacoulet was raised in Tokyo from an early age. His father Frederic Jacoulet was a university professor hired by the Japanese government to teach French to young aristocrats. Jacoulet was fluent in Japanese language and social customs, and he studied a wide range of traditional arts. Around 1931, Jacoulet began to work with Shizuya Fujikake learning the craft of woodblock printmaking. In 1933, he established the Jacoulet Institute of Prints, and by the next year, he began publishing his own designs. With the exception of Jacoulet's 1934 Rainbow Series published by the Kato Institute, all of his prints were self-published. Unlike many other shin hanga* publishers, he gave credit to his carvers and printers by including their names in the margins of his prints. He was also known for having extremely standards for both carving and printing and would discard any prints whose impression was not excellent. In a 1946 article in TIME magazine, Jacoulet claimed to use the earlier imperfect impressions of his prints to paper the floor of his chicken house. Jacoulet remained in Japan through World War II and continued to produce prints up until the time of his death in 1960. Although many of his prints were sold by subscription, he also sold a number of prints to American military officers stationed in Japan.
