This is an assortment of printables to use when studying the men that traveled with Paul. There is a plain suitcase and the color suitcase as shown and will work best printed on cardstock. The map can be glued to the inside of the suitcase and does not have every place marked, but can be added to your study and students can write the places if you would like to. The people are in color only. I cut them, stacked them together and stapled on the right inside the suitcase. But, you can glue the sides of the suitcase and let the students insert the pages and map inside like a suitcase. There are worksheets included. The first has the picture, scripture and a blank space for any notes you want the student to write. The second does not have a picture and has a scripture and lines to write the notes. The last is a completed worksheet for the teacher. Unless you want to use them for discussion and hand these out to the students. Click here to download the set. For week five of God's Little Explorers, we moved on to the story of God's Promise to Abraham, and the letter 't'. Traveling with a Tent An Exploration of the letter 't' Letter: t Theme/Focus: God's Promise to Abraham Memory Verse: Hebrews 11: 9-11 (Excerpts) "By faith [Abraham]...lived in tents...and was enabled to become a father because he considered Him faithful who made the promise." Song: Father Abraham I like to give Ada and Ida as visual a representation of the song as I can, considering they are not readers. For 'Oh be Careful Little Eyes' I used a rebus. For this song, we used paper dolls (blog post forthcoming on our paper doll fun). Introductory Activity: Took the easy route here and watched the Veggie Tales episode, Abe's Amazing Promise. Bible Craft: I like using stickers to exercise Ida and Ada's fine motor skills. Together they placed 100 stars in the night sky above Abraham. I had Ada colour in a picture of Abraham from Christian Preschool Printables, then cut him out and added him to our picture. Ada also traced the words 'God's Promise to Abraham'. Math Connection: Counting to 100. I chose 100 stars exactly in the previous activity because I knew I wanted to introduce the concept of counting to 100. I used another 100 stars to create a chart where we circled the ages of people we know, and added Abraham and Sarah, to give an idea of just how long they waited on God. I don't have photos, but we also made paperclip chains (2 for Ida, 3 for Ada, 38 for Mummy, 65 for Pa - my Dad - and then 100 for Abraham). This gave a very good representation of 100 as well. In a group of more children, you could have them take steps to represent years, and have someone stand at 3 steps, 20 steps, 100 steps etc. Cutting/Collage Activity: This was really in place of doing a collage this week. Ada cut out the 't' to place in the tent we had made. As we are making in interactive notebook of all their Explorers lessons, I like to include some pages that are actually interactive! Vocabulary Turtle: We actually did a number of turtle activities that I have not included here (in the interests of not boring you to death!). I liked including the turtle not only for the 't', but because the turtle carries his home on his back, in the same way that Abraham and Sarah carried their household for years as they obeyed God and traveled where he led them. The turtle has liftable flaps under which are pictures of 't' things. I had Ada trace the easier words on the flaps. Reading Readiness: I like Becky (from This Reading Mama)'s resources very much. When Ada is ready, I am going to use her 'Phonics by the Book' Curriculum, probably in conjuction with a repeat of God's Little Explorers for Ida. As Ada gets more and more ready to read, I have begun including some of Becky's Reading the Alphabet resources (another GREAT pre-reader curriculum). Both Ada and Ida struggle with 'left to right' and while she can't read the sentence, she learned the sentence, and I had her use the turtle to 'walk along the sentence' from left to right. When I glued the activity into their notebook, I added arrows, laminated the turtle with packing tape for durability, and gave him his own pocket at the end of the sentence. Rhyme Time: Another resource from Reading the Alphabet. Ada is all about what rhymes with what at the moment, so I added a Rhyme Time into our curriculum every week. This will help introduce her to rime (as well as rhyme). Dot Marker Activities: I usually use Erica (at Confessions of a Homeschooler)'s alphabet dot marker pages, but I forgot to print one off this week, and ended up just making my own with paper and pencil. I made a modification in that I numbered the dots to reflect how the letter is constructed, and had her dot them in order. I think I will continue to do this. Nursery Rhyme: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star It only made sense to include this nursery rhyme this week. The colouring page came from Sparklebox and the star cutouts we did ourselves. Ada loves to cut, and if I don't give her things to cut, she somehow manages to find her preschool scissors and the I find little bits of paper all over the floor! Other Activities: Alphabetti - Progressive Phonics Lapbook Pieces - Homeschool Share Letter Maze: 1+1+1=1 Sea of Sound: Sparklebox Note: We are following 'God's Little Explorers,' a free, Bible-based curriculum for preschoolers by Stacie Nelson, who blogs at motherhoodonadime.com Last Week: Next Week: Featured at: Linking up with:
Would you like your kiddos to be able to sequence and retell the Christmas story? This nativity craft is a “flip-the-flap” booklet, which is a simple and fun way to sequence and retell the Christmas story in the Bible. The “doors” of the stable open, to reveal graphics of the major events that take place; from Mary & Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem to the birth of Jesus. This Christmas craft is versatile & easy to diversify because of a variety of page options. I’ve provided pages with text for beginning readers, as well as pages without words for younger kiddos. You can also use these pages for older students, so they can write about what is happening and explain the graphic, or find a matching Bible verse to record on the appropriate pages. If you do a "Christmas Around the World" ed-venture, this craft activity makes a nice addition to your travels. The stable is the base of the booklet and is printed on card stock to make it sturdy. Once the booklet is complete, it is free standing and makes a cute decoration. Teacher Comments: "I love this resource! It was very creative and very easy for students to complete." "I really appreciated all of the choices available with this book and that it was ready-to-go." "This was a great resource with many options to personalize for any age level." "The kids had fun making this and it was easy for them to understand." Besides black & white patterns for students to color, cut & glue, I’ve also included colorful templates so that you can quickly & easily make an example to share. For extra writing practice, I’ve also included a completely blank page. On the back of the stable, students can write “Jesus loves me.” or “Jesus is the reason for the season.” There are add-on graphics included as well: 4, star patterns for children to choose from, plus a cow & donkey they can glue to the back of the last, opened pages, so that when the doors are completely open, the animals flank the manger. Be sure & click on the PREVIEW to see samples. Brushing some Elmer’s glue on the star, then sprinkling with gold glitter adds extra pop & pizzazz. When everyone is done, read the booklet together as a whole group, calling on students to explain the various events taking place. Encourage children to sequence & retell the story of Christ’s birth to their families, as they share their nativity booklet at home. I’m Diane from Teach With Me, wishing you a very Merry Christmas. Click here to see the updated passport with Anchor Charts and new stamps. We have a basic routine in the first and second grade Bible class. I make a workbook with some kind of puzzle, picture to color (not to color, but just to look at, unless they do it at home, once the books are taken home at the end of the lessons), and a worksheet I make. I also make some type of lapbook. For Jesus, they glue die cuts on to make a picture for the lesson and a couple of lapbook (lift the flap) question/answer. For Acts, I make a lapbook. They don't glue the die cuts, but I add a passport for fun. When they come into the classroom, they know to go to a table in the front of the classroom, it will have the visual, if there is one. And, I put anything that is just for that days use, like the project or take home, whatever. That way, they are responsible, take one, and there are not extras laying on their table getting knocked off, and I don't have as much clean up after class. There is also gum for them to choose. For Acts, there will be a Betty Lukens flannelgraph set up, like a giant picture for them to see, it doesn't get used, except for me to point to it at the right time. They haven't seen the flannelgraph for a while, maybe never, so it is new to them, old to me though! Anyway, for all the Acts lessons, they will come in, do their passport, pick up whatever is there for them and sit down. I have a clipboard that they look at to see what week they are to stamp. They put a sticker on the sticker page also. I got the stampers on eBay and different craft stores. I keep a list so they use different color stamp pads, and stamps. Here is where I purchased several of the rubber stamps (and I really like them). This is the basic setup for the passport. They put a sticker on the outside so they can find theirs easier. This is the inside front cover. The outside is printed on dark blue cardstock. It has a slight texture to it. If you are ever in Cleveland, Ohio, try to go to this great paper store called Hollos Paper Store. It is the best! You can buy cardstock by the pound, and it is good paper for CHEAP! I miss it! Anyway, that is where I bought the cover cardstock. For this inside cover, I have a square punch and for their picture and they can write the rest. For ID #, I just have them write whatever comes into their head, and I use it again for luggage tags for another lesson. The inside is printed on cardstock also. This is the next page. They will add stickers on the left side, random, however they want, and the right starts the lessons. The place is where our Bible lesson is taking place that morning. It's a very simple style. I have tried a couple of different fonts, etc, but this seems to work the best. The kids stamp right on top of the writing. Here are the basic pages for the passport. I removed the week number and the destination, since mine will be different from yours. But this might help, or give you an idea what I did. Also, I printed everything inside the passport front and back on white cardstock so it worked like a real passport You can print it here.

This lesson combines both Peter's Vision he had on the rooftop and continues with Peter traveling to see Cornelius and teaching him about Jesus. Today we are studying about Cornelius found in Acts 10:1-48. He lived in Caesarea and was a centurion (captain of 100 men) of the Italian Regiment (military). He was faithful and feared God. He gladly gave gifts to the poor and he prayed a lot. About three in the afternoon an angel of God came to him and said, “Cornelius.” He was scared when he saw the angel! The angel told him that God has heard his prayers. The angel told him to "Send for Simon Peter, and he will tell you what to do." The angel left and Cornelius told two servants and a soldier to go to Joppa to get Simon Peter. It was a 10-hour trip. The next day, at about noon, Peter went to the housetop to pray. He was very hungry, and he fell into a trance. He saw the heavens open up and something like a huge sheet tied by its four corners come to earth. It had all different kinds of animals, reptiles and birds on it. Peter wondered what that meant. This happened three times, and then went back up into heaven. (Acts 10:16) While he was thinking about it, the three men sent by Cornelius asked if Peter was there. Peter went down and told them that he was the Peter they were looking for. After they explained why Cornelius sent them, Peter invited them into his house. Peter got up in the morning and prepared to travel with Cornelius’ men. Peter took six Jewish believers along with him (Acts 11:12) on this journey. They split the traveling into a two-day journey from Joppa to Caesarea. When they went into the house, all the people that Cornelius had invited were there to greet Peter. (Acts 10:34) God sent Peter to teach Cornelius and his family. Peter told them that God doesn’t show favoritism. Everyone is treated the same in every nation that fears Him and is faithful to Him. He told them about Jesus and how He died. He said that we are commanded to preach to all people so all can go to Heaven. The thing was that at any other time, Peter and Cornelius wouldn’t be seen together, especially talking to each other because it was unlawful for a Jewish man to associate with someone from another country. (Acts 10:28) But when the people that were at the house of Cornelius heard what Peter had to say, they believed. The last verse (Acts 10:48) says that Peter told them to be baptized in the name of the Lord and then they asked Peter to stay for a few days with them. These updated Roman Centurion posters can be used for any lesson with a centurion. The last poster is Cornelius. These are in color only. Click here to download. This is my visual for this week. The 'sheet tied by the 4 corners' is hanging from the ceiling. I used fishing line to hang it. There are 2 dowel rods that the sheet is tied to keep it from sagging, and the fishing line is tied around the dowel rods. Peter's housetop is a piece of plywood on dowel rod legs. White fabric (that won't fray) cut into 12" large squares. This is about what I cut them. It depends on the fabric, and I just cut them to get the least amount of waste. In the picture, you see I used a white felt, and cut the squares into 18-inch pieces. (Picture 1) Cut two 40" lengths of fishing line, and tie to the opposite corners of the 'sheet'. (Picture 2) I pulled the fishing line up in the center of both pieces and made a loop to gather them. You can give the kids a dowel rod to hang it on to make it go up and down easier. The students will add any animals you hand out and take home their animals they brought. (I sent a note home with them last week and sent email reminders during the week) They can raise and lower the sheet like the vision. Click here to print the note from last week. You can print the left clean vs. unclean worksheet by clicking here. The chart on the right is an updated chart of clean and unclean animals. It is a very basic list with animals that are in the Bible or easily recognized animals. It is not intended to be an in-depth list. This includes the color and black & white. Click here to download. These posters are more of a teacher's visual when discussing clean and unclean and were used with the above student handout chart of clean and unclean animals. Remember, this is intended for early elementary and is not an in-depth adult study on the laws God made for clean and unclean. There is a very basic outline that can be used with the posters and this lesson. Click here to download. This Bible lesson has so many good points that can be discussed. One point that Luke keeps making in Acts is that when people hear the Gospel, they believe in Jesus and immediately are baptized. Another is that Jesus loves everyone and salvation is for everyone. Since those points are made repeatedly in the following lessons, I took this time to talk about some of the old laws from the Old Testament, and some of the new laws that came into effect when Jesus died on the cross. We discussed the old law of sacrificing animals, and we are very thankful we don't have to do that! But, the new law includes baptism. We still worship, but the old law was on the Sabbath, being Saturday. Exodus 31:16 And, the new law on the first day of the week, being Sunday. (Acts 20:7) We mostly talked about clean and unclean food. The food choices were part of the new laws. I had a bigger table and more animals, but this will give you an idea of what I did. I gathered up animals, even my granddaughters Fisher Price ones, and the kids looked at their charts and we put the animal with the correct tag. You can print the clean and unclean tags here. These hanging monkeys and the snakes are from Dollar Tree. They LOVE the monkeys! I hang them on my arms and let them pick their color. But, the object is to discuss the clean vs. unclean according to God. These rats and bats are only sold around October. The first packs are at Wal Mart, the second ones in the mesh bags are at Dollar Tree. They love those, because they glow in the dark! You can also use the black birds (ravens for Elijah) from Dollar Tree for several Bible lessons, and this is one of the lessons! Click here to download. You can find all the Acts worksheets here. This lesson is intended for preschool, but there are new printables here that could be used for early elementary also. Saul was not nice to the Christians. Saul was also called Paul and he grew up in Tarsus. He was a Jewish leader and was very smart. He was glad to see people being put in prison because they believed in Jesus. Saul was still following the Old Testament rules. Saul was in Jerusalem, and he went to the high priest. He wanted permission to bring back anyone that was teaching about Jesus. He wanted to make sure the Christians were in prison. Saul went from Jerusalem to Damascus. It would take Saul and the other men with him several days to arrive in Damascus. It was close to noon, and they were close to Damascus, when suddenly a light came shining around Saul from heaven. The light was brighter than the normal afternoon sun. Saul fell to the ground and Jesus said to him: “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?” Saul asked, “Who are you, Lord?” And the Lord answered, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.” Saul was shaking! He was amazed and asked, “What do you want me to do?” He was told to get up and go into the city and then he would be told what to do. The men that were traveling with Saul just stood there speechless! They heard someone talking but couldn’t see anyone! Saul stood up and opened his eyes, but he couldn’t see anything. The other men led him by the hand and took him to Damascus. He was there for three days. He couldn’t see and he didn’t eat or drink anything. Saul did a lot of praying. He had some time to think about what he had been doing. There was a disciple named Ananias in Damascus and the Lord came to him and told Ananias to find Saul of Tarsus on Straight Street. He is praying and waiting for you to come. Ananias replied that he has heard of Saul of Tarsus! He is putting Christians in prison. Jesus told Ananias that He has picked Saul to tell others about Him. Ananias did what Jesus told him to. He went to see Saul. He laid his hands on Saul and told him that Jesus appeared to him on the road to Damascus and sent me to give your sight back to you. Immediately something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes and he could see. Saul immediately stood up and went to be baptized. Scripture for this lesson is Acts 8:3; 9:1-19. I knew I needed to make a map for this lesson, since the kids love them. The stand-ups are great to use for review also. Issues with my PDF maker created the front page with one of the pictures messed up, but all the printables are perfect. Anyway, this includes the color and black & white. Click here to download. These Flip Books are quick and easy and great to use for review. Just one page to print and you can prepare them, or the students can. This includes the color and black & white. Click here to download. My students love using the Dot Markers. We have them use the Dot Markers first so they can dry before the end of class. This download includes the black & white for the students and a completed color version for the teacher's visual. Click here to download. Where is Saul? Song with a one-page visual.
