Title: Minimalist Beach Sunset The calm waters of the Atlantic in the Gulf of Mexico were combined with a crystal clear sky that flaunted all the brilliant colors of the sunset. I tried to capture all three elements together in harmony. Land, Sea, Sky. Shot in Orange Beach, Alabama just after sunset. All of my photos are printed at a professional lab with high quality ink and archival photographic paper. Image does not come framed. Any pictures with a frame are merely suggestive of how this print can best be displayed. Minimalist Beach Sunset is also available as a metal or canvas print. On a canvas print, the photograph is wrapped around a 1.5" wooden stretcher frame with wire or saw tooth mounting attached. Canvas provides a beautiful, classic look. Modern metal prints are printed on a 1/16" aluminum sheet, have a glossy finish, and come mounted with with a float mount. Metal prints are a great choice for a contemporary look. After a trip to the beach, many people will come home with a few seashells. Seashells can be used as beautiful accessories in your home, but they must be cleaned properly first. You must remove all sand, dirt, and other yucky stuff before putting them on display. Many people also like to bleach seashells for a different look and/or polish or paint them to make them extra special. Here are the step by step instructions for how to clean and polish seashells so you can display them in your home. Wipe CleanStart by rinsing your seashells outside with your garden hose or put them in a bucket of water and dump the out water, repeating the process several times to remove as much sand and dirt as possible. You can even put them in a kitchen collander and run water over them to help remove sand and dirt. Rinsing them outside keeps the majority of the debris from getting inside your home. In order to clean your seashells even more, simply wipe them off with a disposable paper towel or old rag. Photo by My Romantic Home - Browse dining room ideas ToothbrushFor a more detailed cleaning, use a toothbrush to scrub any visible dirt off of your seashells. Don't forget to clean the inside of the seashells also. Photo by Sutro Architects - More dining room ideas Anything Inside? If there is a living animal inside the shell, then please do not remove the shell from its habitat. If the owner of the shell has passed and its body is still inside the shell, it must be removed else it will stink really bad as it decays. You can use tweezers to remove things, or use tweezers in conjunction with one of the methods listed below. 1) Bury the seashell in your yard at least 12" down and leave it there to decompose for at least 1 month. 2) Put the seashells in a pot covered with room temperature water and bring it to almost a boil then shut off the heat and let it sit until it reaches room temperature again. This should free anything left inside, however not all shells respond well to water that hot. 3) You can put your seashells in a plastic bag, put water in the bag to cover the seashells, then put them in the freezer. After they have frozen completely, defrost them and anything inside should be able to be removed easily. Photo by The McMullin Design Group - Look for hallway pictures BleachTo ensure that the seashells are free of germs and yucky stuff, soak them in a cleaning solution of water with 10% chlorine bleach. Make sure the water and bleach solution completely covers the seashells. Take proper precautions when using bleach that you do not splash it on anything that might be affected (such as your clothes). After about an hour, remove the seashells from the bleach and water and rinse them thoroughly in a collander several times with clean water. Allow them to dry. If you want your seashells to look white (or whiter than they currently are), soak them in a solution of 50% water to 50% bleach and soak them for a longer period of time to remove the coloring. Photo by - Look for living room design inspiration Mineral Oil or Baby OilTo make your seashells shine for a polished look, rub them with mineral oil or baby oil and allow that to dry for 24 hours. Photo by Yorgos Efthymiadis Photography - Search bedroom design ideas PolyurethaneIf you want to use polyurethane on your seashells for added polish, skip the oil step and spray them with aerosol polyurethane instead. Make sure to do this in a well ventilated area. You will most likely need to wait for one coat to dry (per the time listed in the manufacturer's instructions) then flip the seashells over and spray the other side. Each side may need two coats or more for a nicely polished look. Ocean Themed Kids Activities - Printables, games, and more! Perfect for summer fun! These activities are perfect for keeping kids busy and entertained!
Is your little one fascinated by the sea and its creatures? I can help! I've recently put together an easy preschool ocean unit study for our homeschool.
Hi - yes, it's time for another installment in the Seashore Splendor saga! I'll be giving you all a bit of a workout this time around - we will be making three 12 1/2 blocks and four 6 1/2 inch filler units. You'll see when you do the cutting, that there is a good reason for this as it makes the best use of fabric, plus it's going to add a great motion to our finished quilt! Actually, this block goes faster than you imagine, and it pushes our progress on this project along nicely. You need four fabrics for this set of blocks - light, medium and dark sea and sky. You will need nearly a fat quarter size of each one, I had to go back to my stash and replace my light sea fabric because it wasn't enough to cut all the pieces I needed for the blocks. The cutting goes quickly, after you get the fabrics all cut to the needed sizes, divide them into four sets of four color. I recommend making all your blocks at one time, chain piecing as you go. You start with a four patch - take care to arrange them in the proper order! Then we start adding triangle units, starting with the smallest. It doesn't matter what order you sew them in, but make sure you sew them in the right orientation - for me it helps to remember to sew the triangle that matches the color on the top right of the square for the first round. Then turn the block and keep adding triangles until you get the first round done. Then trim up those dog ears and you are ready for the next round of triangles. Make sure you center the triangles as you add them. For this round you are sewing bias edges, so don't pull and stretch too much as you sew. When you finish the second round of triangles, pull one of the blocks out for a filler block. Continue adding the next set of triangles to the remaining three blocks. Sew the four triangles leftover together to make a quarter square triangle block - the second filler block. And now we just have one more round of triangles to add to our blocks and they will be finished! Sew the leftover four triangles into pairs: And admire your finished blocks! Here is the whole set on the design wall! If you want to, you can get a start on assembling the pieces and sew the quarter square triangle and half square triangle to the left side of a Snail's Trail block. Here is the progress so far: Aren't those Snail's Trail blocks fabulous? They look like waves, I think! I am getting more excited with every installment seeing how this is coming together. There are some really fun blocks ahead, too - I can hardly wait! Download the pattern by clicking the link below: Download Pattern Here !
