Normally we keep our attentions focused on our own business, but in this case I have to comment. That's the reason we have a Blog isn't it? We have dealt with Home Owner's Associations for years. I support the Home Owner's Associations whole heartily, understanding that in this day and age some folks just aren't responsible and need a little prodding now and again to take care of the things they need to take care of. This posting is a little tongue in cheek poke at our new H.O.A.. I hope they find the humor in it. Understanding that we will be attending our first H.O.A. meeting tonight and will see these folks face to face. I have to admit that the condition of our home was terrible as the prior posts have shown. The exterior condition had to drive the enforcement group insane prior to our purchase. In fact, when we first considered buying the place, the fence had major sections that were on the ground all around the property. We took it upon ourselves to simply nail them back up. We didn't want our friends to think we were completely nuts by buying such a run down property. I will post a couple of pictures of the house again just so you don't have to go find it in the prior posts. So now here is where it gets curious. Our close date was on August 10th. We have a community mailbox that in order to get the key you have to take a copy of your final closing documents to the actual post office and get a key from the U.S. Postal Service. Well, if you have been following the blog you know that we had a weird closing. A courtesy close here with the real documents in Dallas. Not to mention that the hold up from the closing was in large part based on the fact that the home had $2,000 in past due H.O.A. fees. So, we were originally set to close the sixth of July right? O.k. let me get back on track. So we finally were able to get the keys to the community mailbox. I walked down, using the map from the Post Office, located our box and gathered up our mail. Took it back home and here is what we had: Letter from the HOA Letter from the HOA Magazine Electric Bill Seems o.k. right? The first letter, dated August 16th was the traditional "Welcome to the Association". The second letter however, dated August 17th was "Violation for dead bush in front of house"? You're kidding me right? The house had sat vacant for an entire year. We move in one week and begin the fix up and we get a violation letter? Wow... So I called the guy listed on the letter as I was a little hot to say the least. Dan, was very kind and explained that the "Right hand didn't know what the left hand was doing." Well Dan, I appreciate that. But why weren't these violations being sent to the bank prior to our purchase? We received our notification about our dead bush and tree. (We had already begun the take-down of the dead bush and ugly trees. So, both of their concerns were being corrected.) So, H.O.A., Dan and enforcement folks. My question for you is: Who sends you your violation notices? On the edge of our property is the sign that enters into the community. There are two dead trees and an overgrown, ugly bush that needs trimming. The grass surrounding the community is overgrown and full of weeds. Please let us know how you plan to address it? See you guys tonight at the meeting.
