Joseph is a major character in the Old Testament stories of the early patriarchs. His faithfulness to God in the midst of his hardships is an example for all of us and a reminder that God is in control. These Bible lesson activities feature Joseph, his hardship, his endurance, his faith, and God’s blessing upon him.
The story of Joseph is an interesting journey of bad and good. Joseph was kind, faithful and prophetic in his ability to understand dreams. He had some very bad years, betrayal, slavery, imprisonment. Through faith, he was able to get through these bad years until things turned around for him. He became a leader and […]
Joseph's Coat and Joseph's Dreams are lesson 10 in the first quarter of a year of Preschool Bible Study that I assist with on Wednesday evening. I use this coat for my visual aid that I made years ago. The kids love putting it on and reviewing the lesson. Last week we learned about Jacob. Jacob had 12 sons and one of the sons was named Joseph. We find Joseph in the first book of the Bible called Genesis (37). Joseph was 17 years old, and he was helping his brothers feed the animals. Jacob owned a lot of animals. Jacob really loved Joseph and gave him a new coat! This coat was made of many colors! Joseph’s brothers were so angry when they saw Joseph’s new coat! They didn’t like it that their father loved Joseph more! Joseph’s brothers were so jealous of Joseph’s new coat; they wouldn’t even talk to him! Joseph had a dream and when he told his brothers about it, they were even angrier! Joseph told them, “In the dream, we were out in the field, and we were binding sheaves. My sheaf stood up and all of your sheaves stood and bowed down to my sheaf.” Joseph’s brothers asked Joseph if he thought that meant that he would have power over them. Joseph’s dream made his brothers angrier! Joseph had another dream and told his brothers that the sun, moon and 11 stars bowed down to him. Even his father Jacob asked Joseph why he thought that people would come and bow down to him. Jacob called to Joseph and told him to go check on his brothers. They were in the field taking care of the animals. Joseph’s brothers saw him coming from far away and decided to throw Joseph in a pit. When Joseph was close to his brothers, they took his coat and threw Joseph in the pit! While the brothers were eating, there were Midianite traders passing by and they decided to sell Joseph to the traders. They sold Joseph for 20 pieces of silver. The traders took Joseph into Egypt. Next week we will learn more about Joseph and his brothers. God has a plan for Joseph and Joseph will be able to take care of his family. Joseph loves his family and will do exactly what God wants him to. Click here to see both coats for Joseph. We used the Dot Marker coat and they loved it! I purchased these Joseph sticker sets and divided them according to each lesson for the four weeks. Each pack makes enough for 3 students. We used this Flip Chart Song that goes over the Life of Joseph. I divided Joseph into 4 lessons, and we sang it each week. Click here to download it. We used these Magnetic Board Visuals to teach the Joseph lessons. Joseph is divided into 4 lessons and some of these will be used for more than one lesson. These are combined into this one download and includes all the visuals for all the Joseph lessons. Click here to download the set of Joseph MBV. Also, I combined the four lessons into one download to be used with the MBV. These are the same lessons, but have the corresponding numbers to use each visual. Click here for the MBV lessons. Click here to download the lesson. Click here to download the visuals. These updated visuals are all the visuals for Genesis 37 and include Joseph receiving his coat, his dreams and his brothers selling him. All are not shown. Click here to download the pictures to color. (These are the same as the visuals but are black & white.) Click here to see the lesson and printables for early elementary ages. Click here to download the file Folder Game for Joseph's Coat. They love matching the colors!

Joseph was one of the greatest men of the Bible. Joseph’s attitude set him apart. Joseph displayed greatness not because of some miraculous actions, but because he demonstrated a daily positive attitude toward God and others. And his example stands as a challenge for us today.
