Hand-signed PRINT of my original portrait, Emperor Penguin, which was drawn on a vintage map of Antarctica. No doubt, this iconic bird is the true Emperor of Antarctica. As I write this, temperatures in Antarctica are 70 degrees above normal. What does this portend for these majestic creatures? This is piece is inspired by a series called World Tour - in which I used pages from an old atlas as canvases - painting images relating to the place on each map. 10% profit from each print will be donated to the World Wildlife Fund. Each archival print is beautifully recreated at original image size, 11" by 17" (a standard framing size) which sits on 13" by 19" piece of paper. I use high quality Epson Hot Press Bright paper and Epson ultra-smooth fine art paper. For individual orders of 11" by 14" or larger, your print will be placed in an archival sheet, and carefully shipped in a durable mailing tube. ** all designs, drawings, listing content ©2022 Daniel Baxter all rights reserved**
Dear oafish Kronk from Disney's zany 2000 animated film "The Emperor's New Groove". All he ever wanted to be was a chef. And a scout master who talked to squirrels. But somehow he ended up being the henchman to the emaciated menace Yzma. Thankfully his talent for cooking stayed with him and we got some great scenes in the films. Thank you for your spinach puffs, Kronk, even if Yzma never liked them. Being largely for comedic effect, Kronk's love of cooking is also a testament to his kind and caring nature, as well as a plot device in his struggle for identity, explored more fully in the second movie, "Kronk's New Groove" wherein he seeks his father's approval. Note: In "The Emperor's New Groove", Kronk's spinach puffs have exposed spinach (see image to the left). So when you make yours, feel free to not seal up one side, or two! In a few of my puff photos you'll see that I made some smaller ones with spinach showing. I simply pressed two opposing corners together on top. They don't really look like Kronk's but I wanted to experiment, and they cooked up fine. So fold 'em however you want! As long as you've got foil or parchment paper on your tray you don't need to worry about messes. Kronk's Spinach Puffs Ingredients: 1 Pkg. Puff Pastry Sheets, thawed OR Homemade Puff Pastry (recipe here) 10 oz. Frozen Chopped Spinach, thawed & drained well (squeezing by hand w/ paper towels helps) 1 Cup Crumbled Feta (plain or flavored) 1 Onion, finely diced Fresh Herb, like Parsley, Cilantro, or Dill, minced (optional) 3 Eggs 1 Tbsp. Water Important Items: Clean Kitchen Brush (like a small paintbrush, but for food use) Parchment Paper Directions: 1. Preheat oven to 400°F. In a medium bowl, mix together the drained spinach, crumbled feta, chopped onion, 2 of the eggs, & the optional fresh herbs. In a small bowl whisk the remaining egg with the water to create an egg wash. 2. Roll out the puffed pastry & cut into squares, depending on the size of spinach puffs you want. Place a small amount of the spinach mixture onto each square, leaving space between the mixture & the edges. Using a clean kitchen brush, brush the edges of the puff squares, one at a time, with the egg wash. Next, lift one corner of a square & fold it over to the opposite corner, creating a triangle with the spinach mixture inside. Press the edges closed using your fingers or a fork. Repeat this process until all of the squares are triangles (or you can press 2 corners together & leave the spinach exposed). Move the pre-puffs to a parchment-lined baking tray & brush the tops with the rest of the egg wash. Bake for about 20 mins. or until the puffs are nice & golden with a touch of brown. "Watch it. They're still hot." Best served warm.
Here are a few of my rough sketches during the beginning months of Walt Disney's feature ' Kingdom of the Sun '. I was cast to the lead character ' Nina ' supervised by Doug Frankel. This was to be my 4th Main female lead character that i was to animate at Disney's. The others being Esmeralda, Meg, Mulan and now, Nina. I really liked the work Doug had done on her design up to this point. Having the face be wider in design but still keeping the appeal. And I loved the large shapes to work with regarding the hair and outfit, even the earrings. I love having shapes to play with regarding overlapping action and I was already visualizing how the hair could move in and out of actions, looking for appealing shapes and using the drag and follow through action as a nice accent to a movement. We had some time at the beginning to discover the character, learning to drawn her to understand how her design could move around. ==================================================================== BELOW is a rough animation test i did of ' Nina '. I was one of around a dozen animators or so that were on this film for around half a year. Production stopped on this film as the company reworked the story and recast the direction. The new film became ' The Emperors New Groove '. This film was more classic Disney in it's animated style - more traditional than the more comic style of ENG. This test of Nina is just a rough i was having fun with before scenes were cast out. It's rough, off model, not completed. It's also based on a good family friend Lisa Salamone Smith { Disney TV } who I tried to capture some of her personality as I have her walk towards the camera. At times Lisa would have her hair flop down over the side of her face while talking and then take her hand and brush it aside. I tried to put that in the test just to add a bit to the appeal of the performance. As mentioned, the test isn't finished, still in the rough stage, but you can see where I was going with it. :-) Mark Pudleiner - Kingdom of the Sun - Rough ' Nina ' animation test from Mark Pudleiner on Vimeo. ====================================================================== Here are 3 key poses from the first scene where I animated Nina. I was sorry when this story was stopped and along with it all the work done on the character. We moved on after a break to the new film 'The Emperors New Groove' which was a completely different story being animated in a completely different style. And that ended up being another positive experience.
