The full lyrics and score are available at http://www.gardenofpraise.com/ http://gardenofpraise.com/audiofiles/jacosong-1.wma Here is a neat song to help us learn the names of Jacob's sons: Sons of Jacob (to the tune of "Ten Little Indians") Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, Dan and Naphtali, Gad and Asher, Joseph, Benjamin - These are the sons of Jacob. 3) Prayer: Ask God to use our weaknesses to show how strong HE is! 4) Theme: Remind the children of the theme of the unit: God works among his covenant people to prepare the world for the Savior. Hebrews 12:1&2 “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us… look to Jesus.” Tell them that they are going to hear a Bible Story again today that shows how God works through two brothers, Jacob and Esau. God uses the brother’s strengths as well as their weaknesses to show God’s power and might. 5) Bible Story: Today’s Story is about Jacob and Esau. Read pages 50-62 from the Read and Learn Bible (Scholastic). 6) Text: Today’s Text is: The Lord said to Rebekah, “and two peoples, born of you, shall be divided; The one shall be stronger than the other, The elder shall serve the younger.” Genesis 25:23 7) Craft: Birthright Sold for a bowl of Soup- Clay Craft. Prepare “air dry” clay ahead of time, if you wish, or use plasticine. Make enough so that each child can make a small pot. Bring a small round cup and a rolling pin to cut out standard size bases for all the pots. You may wish to prepare a sample a few days ahead of time. At craft time, help the children roll a flat section and cut out bases for each child. Divide remaining dough into even lumps for each child and demonstrate how to roll a “snake” in your hands. Coil the length of clay around the base of the pot to make an old fashioned soup pot. Clay will dry after it has gone home. Send home “pots” in a Styrofoam bowl/plate with today’s text attached to it. If you like, you could even give the children some red lentils to put in their pots! We have tried this with a variety of different "clays" and find that plasticine (even the inexpensive kind that you can buy at a dollar store) is the easiest for kids to work with and provides the most satisfying results. Same and Different….cut out the shape of a man (2 for each child and have them glue one one side of a piece of construction paper. Have the children decorate the shapes with crayons, markers and scraps of fabric to show how the two brothers are same and different. Provide scraps of fake fur if possible! Write “Esau” and “Jacob” on the two sides of each child’s sheet. If you have time, also write down a few words to describe each brother using the child’s ideas. 8) Closing Prayer: say the Lord's Prayer together with the children. 9) Going Home: Sing the closing together. Then, check to see if all the children have collected their crafts and coloring sheets before they go home. Say goodbye and tell them that you enjoyed learning about God together and were happy to have them today! You were, weren’t you? This week's addition to the Beatitudes Series is an Interactive Bulletin Board, Task Cards and worksheets. Next week will continue the same theme with all new printables! This main theme is taken from a photo I added from a Teacher's Workshop that I attended. I have several printables that will be posted this month with this theme. You can see this and more ideas from the Teacher's Workshop here. You can staple the parts to a bulletin board or glue them to a poster board (I recommend). The students can add the correct flower center to the matching flower. Great for review and memory! Print and cut out the pages. Lay out the flowers with the correct stems. You can use Velcro (or whatever you prefer) to make the flower center circles removable on top of the correct flowers. I left a space above the text on the flower centers. The other piece of Velcro will be attached to the back of the answer circles. Click here to print it. I created this set of Task Cards using the bee & beehive theme. Most of the cards ask the student to finish each Beatitude scripture. There is a student sheet in color and black & white. They can read the questions on each Task Card and put their answers on their worksheet. The teacher's answer sheet is also included. You can put the Task Cards into a basket or container and let them pick a card and answer the questions for review. One of the worksheets I created for this Beatitudes series is this Lift-the-Flap. You can print it in color or black & white. The instructions for assembly are included in the download. Our continuing Exploration through the Life of Jesus Has brought us to the time when Jesus is Preaching the Sermon on the Mount. We did a previous lesson on the Beatitudes, Letting Our Light Shine, The Golden Rule and now we are learning about THE WISE AND FOOLISH BUILDERS. . This is always a "fun" lesson to teach KIDDOS. They seem to really understand the point JESUS is making in the story. We added NEW CARDS to our DO You Know? Wall. My Expectation is for the KIDDOS to be able to answer each of these by the end of the lesson. Our VISUAL Aid for this lesson was an easy choice. I used rocks and sand for our foundations and placed a laminated paper house on each. During the lesson, when we got to the part of the storm, I poured water over both houses. As you can see the house on the sand fell. I ended up moving the visuals into a glass casserole dish...that way I could really pour a lot of water all over the houses and not worry about water getting all over the table. I did laminate my houses...so, I can reuse them in the future. It worked out perfectly. We had three new words to add to our WORD WALL. I chose STORM, BUILDER, & FOUNDATION. Those are important words for the KIDDOS to understand for this lesson to make more sense to them. We Added a NEW Card to our GOD'S AWESOME PLAN FOR MAN Timeline!! This is the SONG we learned with this lesson. The KIDDOS really enjoyed singing this one. I like that it teaches the message about WHO we need to build our life on!! The song can be heard by clicking the following link. The WISE BUILDER SONG....BY RONDA DUVALL Our MEMORY VERSE was Matthew 7:24! To hear the MEMORY VERSE song click on this link. Matthew 7:24 Memory Verse The Kiddo's made a "HOUSES BUILT ON A ROCK" for their TAKE-HOME project. I was excited for the KIDDOS to get to make this TAKE HOME project. It's a great visual reminder for BUILDING OUR LIFE ON THE LORD!! We want to be WISE BUILDERS! This week our REVIEW Game was a FUN one!! The KIDDOS had a paddle with both a well built house and a crumbling house on it. We would read a circumstance card to the KIDDOS...they would have to choose if the person on the card was building their life on JESUS or not. If the person on the card was building their life on JESUS, they would hold up the strongly built house. If they person was NOT building their life on JESUS, the KIDDOS would hold up the house that was crumbling and falling down. The KIDDOS did REALLY well with this game and enjoyed spinning their houses!! As you know, the second week of the LESSON is when we REVIEW. It gives me opportunity to correct any misunderstandings. It also, gives opportunities for the KIDDOS who missed class the first week to "CATCH UP." This is the Week we SAY our MEMORY VERSE from MEMORY and We do an ACTIVITY we add to our EXPLORER JOURNAL. This LESSON'S EXPLORER JOURNAL ACTIVITY was simple one...ON one side the page had a ROCK foundation that the KIDDOS added. On the other side the KIDDOS spread glue and added sand. Then the KIDDOS built a good strong house from nicely cut craft stick upon the ROCK and a HOUSE in pieces (I broke several craft sticks to give them the broken down look) upon the sand. The KIDDOS LOVED making this EXPLORER JOURNAL ACTIVITY. I am thoroughly enjoying teaching through the Life of Christ. The KIDDOS are learning so much about JESUS our LORD. Blessings, Ronda
