The Som Cardigan is a top down cardigan worked in an eyelet pattern. First, the back yoke is worked in short rows in eyelet pattern to construct the shoulder slope. Next, stitches for each shoulder are picked up along the back yoke and worked back and forth. When the shoulder pieces are done, the back and the shoulders are joined together and worked flat to the hem. For the sleeves, stitches are picked up around the armhole and then short rows are worked for a shoulder cap. The rest of the sleeves are worked in the round and are finished with a puff silhouette. Finally, the button bands are worked in rib along the front body and the neck. The Som Cardigan requires the following techniques: casting on, picking up stitches, knit and purl stitches, yarn overs, increases (M1L, M1R), decreases (k2tog, ssk, p2tog, ssp, CDD), German short rows, double knitting and tubular bind off.
