Она является первой художницей по текстилю, ставшей членом Wildlife Art Society of Australasia (Австралийского общества художников дикой природы) и Australian Guild of Realist Artists (Австралийской гильдии художников-реалистов). В 1992 году она выпустила книгу «The Art of Annemieke Mein: Wildlife Artist in Textiles», в которой содержатся иллюстрации 60 текстильных работ. "Белощекая цапля" (одна из первых работ, материал - многослойная шелковая органза, ) "Семейная" работа, изображающая 11 пушистых птенцов, появилась в книге «The Art of Annemieke Mein: Wildlife Artist in Textiles» только потому, что пользуется огромной популярностью на выставках.
A Textile Designers guide to the art of Fabric Manipulation to use in simple craft projects
Lacemaking has gone all organic this month. Here at Adventures HQ I have been captivated by the lace art work of Hungarian artist Agnes Herczeg. Herczeg
I spent the past week sewing like a madwoman, hours and hours in joy and contemplation. Thinking about influences. And inspirations. The Stitched festival at Crosstown Concourse that I organized and facilitated is over. So now I have time to think.
Embroidered doily about 1910 Arts and crafts embroidery could be quite modern with flowers abstracted to extremes. This vintage piece has a lovely design, probably commercially produced by an American needlework company. Women bought the linen marked with a colored design and finished it with a satin stitch (Kensington stitch) outlined in a black chain stitch. They often used a raised satin stitch of two layers. The finished piece illustrates the design confusion associated with the modern movement. The lace edge is an echo of romanticism, a mixed message of new and traditional that marks much needlework of the era. Here's a pattern for the motif. Click on the picture above and save it to a JPG or a Word file. Then print it out about 6" wide and trace it onto linen. A table runner with a hemmed edge captures the modern look better than a lacy finish. It's fascinating to see how women used these embroidered designs. In keeping with William Morris's dictate that one should have nothing but beautiful objects in the home, women made embroidered linen bags to hold their stockings, their hankies... and their laundry. They often embroidered their dresses Here's a 1904 idea from Ladies Home Journal magazine They advised the amateur artist to copy arts and crafts motifs from magazine illustrations. And they made tea cozies. The most common use for all that decoration was for pillows and what my mother might have called a dresser scarf--- The doily above another example of modern/romantic.
Last week there was a lot of noise outdoors : it turned out to be the noise of a chainsaw (which makes me nervous most of the time) Some man were busy on the little island right on the other side of the water next to our garden. I looked in terror : Would they really ? ........ Noooo ! the gorgeous weeping willows In a devastating trapeze act the man were decimating the two trees untill ... there were only two pitiful remnants instead of two majestic trees ( "it will be for the best" the Parks Department will probably say ... yuk !) This tiny creature gave me more fun : Lissotriton vulgaris (a newt) he (or she) was hiding with another sibling and mum under the geraniums (but the picture of the three of them wasn't sharp enough) * And indoors the stitching on the sunny heart piece went on and on ... After all the "sun rays" were there (in rainbow colours) the magic thread was stitched in place. Which left me only with the invisible basting of the backside which I did today ! "A warm heart" will be send of to France tomorrow to a very dear friend (and namesake)
Cristina Arcenegui Bono discovered that she preferred the machine quilting to piecing quilts that opened a world of art to her.
