If you've been searching for the Aztecs and ideas to teach, you may have been searching for a while. There are not a lot of resources out there, readily available and free for your use.
The ancient Mesoamerica civilizations are fascinating as there is so much wonder and true joy of learning but not enough time to teach it! This game allows groups of students to conduct research to answer 100 interesting multiple choice questions such as: What was the Mayan practice of bloodletting? a. a medical treatment b. sacrificing one's own blood c. a punishment for breaking laws d. a form of art What piece of clothing would show the social class of an Inca? a. headdress b. poncho c. sandals d. cloak Along the way students will pick up many other fascinating facts about the Aztec, Incan, Mayan, and Mississippian civilizations. There are 25 questions per civilization, so if you are not studying the Mississippian at the same time, you can work with 75 questions. Topics include location, religion, agriculture, social class, technology and culture. As the teacher, you will need to provide research materials for the students. Internet access is also helpful. This zip file (you will need WinZip or a similar program to download the file) includes: - Game directions - Copy of questions for students - Copy of questions with answers for teacher - PDF of the game board that can be used as an overhead or drawn on large sheet of paper - Notebook file of an interactive board for use on Interactive White Boards This activity can be completed in a variety of ways. 2-3 class sessions could be spent on research with 1 session of game board play.
