Story elements are the five components that make up a story. They are the characters, setting, plot, conflict and resolution. These elements keep the story running smoothly and allow the action to develop in a logical way that the reader can follow. Retelling involves students orally reconstructing a story that they have read or has been read to them. A student's retell should include characters, settings, and events in the logical sequence of the story.
I plead the fifth! 🤐

This week is Spring Break for me. I'm sitting at home enjoying this beautiful weather (and so glad winter is o-v-e-r!) and spending time with my kiddos. It's also a bittersweet time for me because really, I know when I return after this week, I only have a few more weeks left. Those few weeks will be greeted with excitement that I will have my summer off here soon but sadness that soon they'll be leaving me. And really, whether I like it or not, I still need to plan for those last few weeks. As I head into area and perimeter for one of the last units of math, I started collecting a ton of fantastic ideas and FREE resources to teach it. Over at my blog you can, not only read up on lots of fantastic ideas but you can also, collect this cute little freebie that I created to go with the collection! The Giggly Guide to Grammar is the life's work of a dedicated language arts teacher with a life-sized sense of humor and the hand of an artist. Cathy Campbell has both illustrated and long tested the exercises in this guide with her 9th grade students in The Woodlands, Texas. It's a lighthearted and ludicrous guide to the essential elements of language and grammar (with a few writing tips tossed into the mix). It's Shel Silverstein meets Strunk and White and the results are both hilarious and instructive. Tried and true, and everyone a delight, there isn't a serious sentence in the group. But this is a dead-serious grammar book with the heart of a clown. Lessons include: parts of speech, subject-verb agreement, parts of the sentence, clauses of all kinds, quotation marks and italics and much more. The Deluxe Teacher's Guide has a CD-Rom that includes a full answer set, posters for the classroom and a set of transparency-ready exercises for each of the chapters. | Author: Cathy Campbell | Publisher: Discover Writing Press | Publication Date: Jul 17, 2023 | Number of Pages: 304 pages | Language: English | Binding: Paperback | ISBN-10: 1931492220 | ISBN-13: 9781931492225
