The identification of English white ironstone plates is made far easier through this new book. Organized according to the shape names, the 327 color photographs and 252 drawings of plates, rims, potters’ marks and registry marks are easy to compare. Copper Lustre and Tea Leaf decorations are included. Because few written records from the manufacturers are available to help analyze these plates, made in large quantities for export primarily to the United States between about 1840 and 1890, this study will be an important reference for identification and comparisons. It is both comprehensive and easy to use, providing an important tool for collectors, dealers, curators, designers, auctioneers, and historians for analyzing Victorian cultural history.

This Listing, is for an antique, English Coffee pot. It was made by Alfred Meakin. It is Royal Ironstone China. It is tall and made of durable ironstone, with a tea leaf design, and bright copper colour trim. The back stamp dates it to the 1890's. This pot is antique but is in very good condition. It is free from chips and cracks . It has some fine crazing all over, which is typical with age. The bronze trim is intact. There is a narrow x shape mark on the base, but this is superficial , and appears to be under the glaze. It is not deep, and the interior pot is sealed, and water tight. The coffee pot holds about eight cups, and is very usable. The interior lid feels a little rough to the touch in a few spots. This pot is old , and has seen a previous life, but is a lovely piece, for display or use. Please view all of the photos, and feel free to contact me for further questions. The price reflects any little flaws, and shipping is free. Thank you for visiting my shop. I try to package all items well, and ship quickly. Measurements; It is about 8 3/4 inches tall to the tip of the lid. It is a little over 8 inches wide from the end of the spout to the end of the handle. It weighs two pounds four ounces

In 1813 Charles James Mason gave the public just what they needed, patenting his "ironstone china." This durable yet beautiful dinnerwarewas stronger and less expensive than the china that then dominated the market. And its white, unadorned base soon became popular as a canvas for decorations such as Flow Blue, Mulberry, and Copper Lustre, especially the Tea Leaf motif. This pictorial and collectors' guide provides an alphabetic listing of all known shapes and their makers, illustrated with more than 700 color photographs to help easily identify pieces and show the ironstone in detail never seen before. Collectors will find this cross-referencing tool invaluable. Included is also a miscellaneous chapter, which brings to new light the unusual and hard to find pieces and a section devoted entirely to children's sets. Color photographs of makers' marks are identified and dated to aid those wishing to date their pieces.
