I'll make this another quick post. I had meant to post earlier, but I guess I've been too busy tatting. Since my last post, I have finished tatting round 16 of the Monsterpiece doily and am over three quarters finished with round 17. As a bonus, you get a photo of the whole Monster. The photos where taken over a week ago, as I had planned on making a quick blog post, but got distracted and forgot. I am currently working on the eighth scallop. It's kinda weird knowing that the next round will the be last. Thread stats: Manuela size 20, colour #055. With any luck, I can have this round finished by the end of the week, possibly earlier than that. I can then begin the final round. The end is near!

The Magic Square pattern is now available in my Etsy shop as an instant digital download (click here). This is what the 7 page pattern looks like printed out: I spent many hours trying to come up with written instructions, but in the end I decided to go with diagrams only as I just could not convey the pattern properly with text. The pattern file includes four diagrams showing different options that you can make with the design, as well as a short pictorial page showing how to build the squares. Overall, I had enough time to tat three of the options. These options are just a starting point, and you can certainly go beyond what is shown in the diagrams. You can also tat a very large triangle (instead of a square) to form a shawl. All patterns are completed in one continuous round. Option #1 is the smallest, and easiest to tat: Option #2 is a little larger, but not too difficult: Option #3 would have taken an extra 30+ hours to make, so I don't have any images of it. It would look similar to connecting four Option #1 squares together into a larger square (all of these Magic Squares double as repeatable squares). Option #4, which I have been showing on my blog over the past few weeks looks like this: I found it very tricky to keep my place in this large square because it is all tatted in one round. I used lines of symmetry to remember where I was in the pattern, constantly tatting mirror images of what was on the other side. At this size, it's nearly impossible to follow a diagram...definitely not for beginners! If you have any questions or are confused about parts of the pattern I am always here to help. You can contact me through my Etsy shop, the contact form on the sidebar of my blog, or by email which can be found on the About Me page. Please do check your junk folder for replies, as they often get stuck in there!
Aster Garden Magic Square doily pattern This digital instant download contains pattern for making “Aster Garden” Magic square doily. There are two versions in the same design (original and “inverted”). This pattern contains 1 file with 12 pages in total. All designs include clear diagrams with photos , two video links and English written instructions. Tatting level: Late intermediate - Advanced (2 shuttles) The pattern “Aster Garden” does not contain basic tatting instructions, so you need some tatting experience to follow the diagram. This is a pattern using “Magic square” method to tat the square doily, which means you can finish the doily in one path without connecting the motif piece by piece. You will need the following tatting skills to complete the doily: - rings - chains - CWJ (Catherine Wheel Joins) - Long picots (using picot gauge) - magic square idea (if you know how it works, it will be easier for you to handle, but even though this is your first time to make it, it is easy to follow with the diagram and written instructions.) Material for work: - threads (any size between 20 - 90) - 2 shuttles - crochet hook for picot joins - picot gauge or picot comb Antonia magic square 2 x 2 (original version) Thread: Ette #90 ~ 7 x 7 cm Thread: Lizbeth #80 ~ 6.5 x 6.5 cm Thread: Olympus #40 ~ 10 x 10cm Antonia magic square 4 x 4 (original version) Thread: DMC #80 ~ 13 x 13 cm Antonia magic square 2 x 2 (inverted version) Thread: Ette #60 ~ 12 x 12 cm Thread: Lizbeth #80 ~ 9.5 x 9.5 cm You may sell or give away your work that you make using this pattern, but distributing the pattern itself anywhere is prohibited. Please note that I don’t except returns or exchanges on digital products. NOTE FOR DOWNLOADING THE PDF: I’ve received quite a lot of messages asking how to download the PDF after purchasing. 1) no matter you are purchasing from ETSY through your mobile or computer, once you are done for the payment, ETSY will send you an email for the purchase receipt and download link directly. Please note that they will only send to the email that you registered in Etsy. 2) However, ETSY only allow you to see the DOWNLOAD LINK in laptop/tablet/computer. That means, you can’t see the link in your MOBILE. 3) Just simply click the “DOWNLOAD” button on your purchased list in ETSY account. 4) Open your downloaded file in your device, and print it ! That’s it. It’s very easy to do all these steps if you are using laptop/tablet/computer. (MOBILE DOES NOT WORK FOR DOWNLOADING FILES in ETSY) Feel free to contact me if you have any further questions about tatting and the pattern.
Another new technique from Annie's Attic! (copyright 2001). Cro-tatting is a combination technique that combines needle tatting and crochet. This is the full original kit, including the cro-tatting needle/hook, the original thread (seems similar to a size 10 or bedspread crochet cotton), and it even comes in the original plastic. The booklet is over 20 years old now and has obviously been read, but it is unmarked and in very good condition considering its age. It has 9 patterns over 12 pages of instructions, including a pattern for an Irish crochet lace-style rose doily, and a beautiful cro-tatted basket. Little snowflake and butterfly motifs are great small patterns for practice. I wasn't able to find many options for professional cro-tatting instruction, so I paid a fortune for this little kit. I never put it to use as my dear friend has gotten me hooked on shuttle tatting when I'm not busy with Irish crochet lace. I am including a Lacis "bullion" needle I purchased separately, which is finer than the exclusive white-handled crochet hook that came with this kit. Their hook is for size 10. I haven't tried it, but the Lacis hook might work with size 20 or 30 crochet thread. I prefer to offer people other options when I have to put such a high price tag on things, but I can't find many options out there for cro-tatting hooks, which have a long, uniform shaft to hold an entire row of tatting. I know there are videos to learn cro-tatting basics on YouTube. If any cro-tatters can recommend a hook, I'll gladly add that info here. Thanks!

Hello, lovely crocheters! Guess what? We want to share two free crochet patterns for doilies with you today. Why?
Fotos: Marta Stweart , Style Files , Apartment Therapy, Better Homes and Gardens

This is another of the patterns from Dora's book. It's called the Pinwheel. I've been working on this for a few weeks but didn't have time to show you until now. It's a pretty straightforward pattern to follow and to work BUT it does have an intriguing technique that I'd not met before. Be assured - you'll be seeing more of this technique if I can get BC3 to work on the idea!!!! I can 'see' myself using it in something I'm quietly looking into designing and between starting yet another pattern from 'the' book. I have had one or two people ask for copies of the patterns but, as I've explained, I can't share as the book is under copyright to Dora's family and I wouldn't dream of breaking copyright laws.
Here's the tutorial! I made a much smaller envelope this time and it's the perfect size to tuck a gift card into. Pretty appropriate for ...
