Perhaps no one single person has had such widespread influence on the countercultural turns of the 20th century as Cambridge-educated occultist and inventor of the religion of Thelema, Aleister Crowley.
Aunque precisamente no hablaré del Tarot de Crowley, he decidido mencionar uno de los personajes más influyentes en la historia del ocultismo y que sin duda alguna aún influye no sólo en el mundo de lo oculto, sino en la cultura general, pues su imagen incluso ha sido utilizada como portadas de discos musicales y su nombre ha aparecido en diferentes obras literarias. Crowley, Aleister Aleister Crowley nació en Inglaterra el 12 de octubre de 1875 y murió a los 72 años de edad el primero de diciembre de 1947. Es conocido en el mundo como un gran influyente ocultista, escritor, místico e incluso mago que fundó la filosofía Thelema (regla basada en "Haz tu voluntad" como principal ideal de ésta filosofía). También hizo parte de la famosa Orden Hermética del Alba Dorada la cual reúne a personas expertas en magia y ocultismo y fue construida en Londres en 1.888. Crowley se caracterizó porque desde temprana edad inició su interés en la escritura, aquí cabe resaltar que a lo largo de su vida fue el responsable de diversos ensayos, novelas e incluso poemas, aunque en su mayoría estos libros hacen referencia al ocultismo, esoterismo y yoga. Sus primeros escritos los creó a la edad de 23 años y muy posiblemente durante toda su vida continuó escribiendo. Rápidamente hizo parte de La Golden Down la cual abandonaría y posteriormente fundó la organización también ocultista llamada Astrum Argentum (A.A.), que utilizó para compartir y enseñar sus conocimientos los cuales llamó Iluminismo Científico. Fue llamado como "La Bestia" incluso por su madre, ya que se cuenta que a temprana edad despellejó vivo un gato luego de haberle inyectado cloroformo y arsénico, además de joven fue considerado como un rebelde (información no confirmada en su totalidad). Por esto y por muchas más razones se llamó a Crowley como "el hombre más perverso del mundo" y sin duda alguna es uno de los magos más importante en la historia y ha marcado el rumbo de la magia en la actualidad. Se consideró bisexual y además consumió diversos tipos de drogas con propósitos medicinales pero que sin duda alguna influyeron en su vida. Está claro que para entender su infancia, adolescencia y etapa adulta hay que resaltar que sus padres pertenecieron a la Secta de los Hermanos de Plymouth, la cual es reconocida por ser demasiado estricta y considera gran parte de los actos como pecaminosos, esto creó un ambiente familiar basado en la opresión, límites extremos y reglas que se debían de cumplir de manera detallada. Su padre muere de cáncer en la lengua y queda al cuidado de su madre y tío materno. Su escrito más importante tal vez puede ser el Libro de la Ley, que aseguró haber escrito en un estado de mendiumnidad por una entidad llamada Aiwaz. El libró está conformado por tres capítulos, los cuales fueron escritos en tras días cada uno; en ellos se encuentra proclamada la Ley de Thelema. Finalmente, Crowley muere a los 72 años de edad por graves alteraciones en el corazón y una bronquitis aguda. Pero no se puede negar que su vida estuvo llena de curiosidades como la recomendación que él mismo le hizo a Churchill para que hiciera el símbolo V (Signo de la victoria) y de este modo Aleister aseguraba que sería la clave para ganar la Segunda Guerra Mundial. TAROT DE CROWLEY El mazo Crowley llama la atención a los expertos en el Tarot por sus llamativos colores, extrañas figuras y la luz que emanan de ellas. Este Tarot fue pintado por Lady Frieda Harris quien hizo parte de la masonería femenina. Para diseñar el Tarot se inspiró en las obras literarias de Crowley y como dato curioso es que por orden del mismo Aleister, dibujó tres cartas distintas de cada arcano mayor, puesto que posteriormente el escogería cual quedaría en el mazo. Este Tarot fue finalizado luego de cinco años de trabajo y personalmente lo considero como uno de los más elaborados y del cual se requiere gran preparación y un "don" particular para la interpretación de dicha baraja. Recomiendo a quienes estén iniciando en el Tarot, deben de conocer en algún momento este mazo en particular (sea que lo utilicen o no) y muy seguramente notarán los diferentes símbolos ocultos que se hayan en él, sus hermosas figuras y cómo éstas muy seguramente pueden dar la posibilidad al lector en madurar su INTUICIÓN.
