“Andersen had the ability to articulate desires petty and profound and make them into transcendent tales.”

Hello there, I'm very excited to share with you these two illustrations from Thumbelina, which I illustrated for Sterling Publishing, to be published later this year. Along with many other fun projects, it pretty much made my year to have the fortune to work with the people at Sterling on the twenty illustrations for Thumbelina. Right now I'm working on the Princess and the Pea, also for Sterling. Fun times ahead with fluffy dresses, a somewhat desperate prince, a queen and a king, castles and a tiny little pea! The places we've live, and the places we grew up in often have an impact (whether acknowledged or not) on our lives, our relationships, our dreams. . . and the houses we yearn for, whether real or imagined, reveal much...
This beautiful vintage print painted in 1913 by William Robinson for the story "Tommelise" in the book "Hans Andersen's Fairy Tales" is from the 1976 book ”Charles & William Heath Robinson” edited by David Larkin. Printed on glossy paper, it measures 22cm x 30cm (8.75in x 12in). It is signed in the plate and includes details of the artist and descriptive text of the artwork on the reverse. William Heath Robinson (1872-1944) and Charles Robinson (1870-1937) came from a family with illustration in their blood. As their separate careers developed, they gave to book illustration a charming and gently humorous approach with a great feeling of responsibility toward the audience they primarily chose to work for – children. Often using a subtle change of perspective, many well-loved tales were presented anew to an ever-increasing relationship of both young and old. Your order will be carefully packed to arrive safely.
