My two oldest are so excited for school to start this year. We go to a year-round school, which starts much earlier than traditional school, so we are getting ready to go back and it's only the first week of July! This year I wanted to do something I saw so many moms do last year - give my kids a survey right before their first day of school to document their lives at this point in time. I think it will be so special to keep these and show them to my kids when they are older. Cute
Bringing people back to their home school and making them feel still a part of it is a important thing for me. Over the past 10 years I have worked hard trying different things in welcoming the alumni back during homecoming and courtwarming events. Here are 15 ideas to start you off on encouraging the alumni back. I've also seen it where a high school organization takes this on and makes this one of their main priorities...which is pretty neat! I have enclosed some pictures of our experiences. :) Enjoy!
These all about me, back to school art activities for kids are engaging icebreakers. Encourage creativity and build community during the first week back

I am finally feeling much better thanks to a few all natural recipes and remedies. This specific flu bomb recipe seemed to work better for me than over the counter medicine so I thought I'd share. This recipe takes little to no time and will make you feel better immediately. For best results, I recommend starting to

It has been glued onto a piece of white card with a choice of one of the messages from the drop-down menu. (The message on the first photo is one of the choices, it is NOT shown on each card) - You've got this - Good luck at Uni! - You are amazing - Love you - Congratulations! - Happy Birthday - Here's a hug while I can't be there. Put me in your pocket and take me everywhere (shown as "Here's a hug while I" in the drop down menu) - Here's a hug while we can't be there. Put me in your pocket and take me everywhere (shown as "Here's a hug while w" in the drop down menu) If you would like to personalise the card please select "Own message" for just £1 extra. Comes in a gift bag. **** PLEASE NOTE THIS IS THE ORIGINAL POCKET PENGUIN **** I HAVE SPENT MANY HOURS DESIGNING HIM AND MAKING MY PENGUINS INDIVIDUALLY BY HAND. SADLY, SOME SELLERS ON ETSY ARE NOW IMITATING MY OWN DESIGN - THEY ARE PURCHASING THEM FROM A WHOLESALER WHO IS MASS PRODUCING THEM IN A FACTORY AND THEN SIMPLY DROP SHIPPING THEM ON THIS SITE, (so they are not made with fused glass and NOT handmade, despite selling on Etsy...)- SOME ARE ALSO USING MY PHOTOS WITHOUT MY PERMISSION. "Spiral of Fifths - Musical Art Print" When I discovered music fonts, I immediately wanted to create images incorporating musical notation. For this image, I wanted a stave that wasn't straight, and thought of using maybe a circle or a spiral. I remembered the concept of a circle of fifths from studying music theory. In a circle of fifths, starting off in any major key and modulating up or down by a fifth 12 times will take you through all 12 major keys before returning back to the starting key again. This "spiral of fifths" starts in C major. Each circuit of the spiral passes through all 12 major keys before returning back to C major again ready for another circuit. The notes in each cycle become fewer and longer as the space becomes more restricted towards the centre of the spiral. After passing through each key 5 times, the piece ends on a single held C. The notes are chosen and arranged for their visual appearance rather than musical quality, but should be musically accurate and playable! Printed on 275gsm Canon PP-201 paper using Canon ChromaLife 100+ inks. Frame and mount are not included. Prints are available in the following sizes: Imperial: 5x7" 8x10" 11x14" 13x19" International: A5 A4 A3 A3+ See the final image for a list of exact print and image sizes for each of these options. Great ideas and inspiration in this middle school classroom reveal - from decorating to small group areas to hanging posters and anchor charts.
I'm feeling a little bit behind. So many of you are going back to school and I still have about 3 weeks of summer left! I feel like I'm not able to share things from my room because, well... I haven't been in there yet! I did want to share a few things with you. FIRST-Call me maybe CRAZY-but while on my vacation, I created and finished a big little unit for Election (or President's Day). There are over 20 activities that I'll be using during the week of election. Last election, my team organized a whole school Presidential Voting---so there are also ballots included in the packet with Obama, Romney and Paul listed as well as a blank line for "write ins." Click on the picture to take you to the listing to read more about what is in it. I'm excited about it! (And, I promise that I'll start the October Math and Literacy stations that I've been asked about ASAP!!!!) =) Next, I want to share an activity that isn't new in any way, but maybe new to you! On the first day of school, I'm going to give my firsties a little quiz. This quiz will be a little different. I have created (it's important to write down everything, including answers---even though it's obvious!) 25 True/False statements about myself. Here's the part that makes it even more fun and engaging. First, you will line up your students across the back of the room---or take them outside. This will be played kinda like "Mother May I" or "Red Light, Green Light." I will stand where ever I want the kids to finish. I will read a statement about myself. If they think it is TRUE, they will take a STEP FORWARD. If they think it is FALSE, they will STAY PUT. If they answer INCORRECTLY, they GO BACK TO START! The first one(s) to make it to me is the winner! Click on the picture to read statements I put on. I have more trues than falses for this one so that I'm sure to get SOMEONE to me. I am going to send home the paper to parents after we complete it in class for parents to give it a try. (They won't need to send it back.) I will send home answers to them the following day. I'm hoping that this not only helps create a nice classroom culture from day one, but also a great family relationship. Here's what I did for you! Click on the next picture to go to google docs. There you can download an editable version of above (with the directions in place---and one set of directions for SHE and one set for HE-both are in the same doc-and you'll need powerpoint to edit) If you like the font I have, I used Hello Literacy's font: HelloAli ALSO-I plan on giving my winner (or winners) a little certificate. I am thinking that I'll be making one for everyone because I'm not quite sure I'll get an answer from my little firsties ;) Click on the next picture to grab yourself a copy! (I will also put the direction page there too, for those of you who do not have powerpoint. You could do the old fashion cut and paste to get your statements on there) LAST-If you haven't heard by now, Teachers Pay Teachers is having a HUGE sale this weekend! I will be having my store 20% off. Use the code BTS12 to get an additional 10% off! I can't wait to clear out my wishlist and get some great new things for this school year! Here are some of the newer things that I have recently placed on TPT: Word Jails are now editable! First day/week of school ideas/activities I have K-5 checklists available in my store! Lit stations/centers perfect for September! Math Stations/Centers perfect for September! A fun word work station activity that can be used throughout the year! OH! And if you made it this far-----I HAVE A GIVEAWAY GOING ON RIGHT NOW FOR YOU TO WIN A PIECE OF JEWELRY OF YOUR CHOICE (UP TO $100) FROM LIA SOPHIA!!!!!!!------>GIVEAWAY! And---make sure to follow my blog because I have some more pretty exciting giveaways coming up that you will NOT want to miss!!!!!!!

Back to School Children's Church Lesson - Back to School Bible Verses The start of a new school year can bring many unexpected challenges and changes – some may be good and some may not. This lesson will encourage kids that if they memorize Scripture, especially these 3 verses, they can be encouraged to take on whatever comes their way this school year. Kids will learn that God’s Word can help them with any challenge they face this school year. Back to School Bible Verses Overview: Memory Verse: “I can do everything by the power of Christ. He gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13 (NIrV) Lesson: Scripture: Joshua 1:9, Colossians 3:23, Philippians 4:13 -Kids may face difficult situations in the coming school year. The Bible reminds us in Joshua 1:9 that no matter what we face, we can be encouraged if we remember God is with us: “Here is what I am commanding you to do. Be strong and brave. Do not be afraid. Do not lose hope. I am the Lord your God. I will be with you everywhere you go.” -Colossians 3:23 will remind kids that doing their best in school is actually a way we can serve God. “Work at everything you do with all your heart. Work as if you were working for the Lord, not for human masters.” -Finally, Philippians 4:13 Will remind kids that they can accomplish great things for God if they rely on God's strength this school year and not just their own abilities. “I can do everything by the power of Christ. He gives me strength.” This Lesson Includes: Make It Stick! Parent Sheet Memory Verse Skit or Puppet Show Craft Activity Large Group Game Large Group Lesson Small Group Discussion More!
