This table runner pictured finished at 100x18" and could easily be displayed on a table up to 8 ft in length. The quilted runner is made with your choice of background fabric and high muslin backing. The ties are randomly placed and machine appliqued into place then the table runner is quilted with evenly spaced lines to allow the ties to remain the focus of the piece. Dry cleaning is recommended to avoid any colors running and to preserve the ties vibrancy over the years. A non-refundable deposit of 50% of the listed price is required. The Modern Table Runner All of a sudden, I need to make a lot of versions of this table runner. Version 1, already in progress: This is a custom order from an Etsy customer who requested an off-white background and a narrower width (13", while the one pictured above is 17") I felt that since it's quite a bit narrower than the ones I've been making a 3 block design would work better-- I think that was the right call for this one. So this one has 3 squares across in each row, instead of the 4 squares in the original. Next will be a copy of the runner pictured at the top of the page. This occurred in unusual circumstances: The runner pictured at the top of the page sold in my Etsy store on Friday. About 30 seconds after it sold, ANOTHER customer emailed me to say that very same runner had been IN HER CART and someone beat her to it and paid for it before she could check out! I was astonished by this, since at any given moment there are well over 5000 table runners for sale on Etsy-- what are the odds that 2 people would try to buy the same item at the same moment? Truly mind-boggling. Anyway, I set up a custom order for the second customer for her table runner so no one else can buy it! So I will be making that one next, and then I'll probably make a third to have in my store! Also under construction today, a custom placemat set for a co-worker of my husbands. She has an Office Lunch Set of mine and wanted to order these as a gift for friends. It's 2 placemats plus 2 coasters. The fabric is "Down on the Farm" from Kaufman, available at Fabric.com.

Hey Everyone, Here is the tutorial for the tree block from Brooke (her's is putting together either the table runner or the bedrunner). Here is Sally's Bedrunner which she has finished (over achiever). Here is my tutorial since I had to be difficult and make the lap size :) Lap Size Tree Tutorial (pdf) Cut your biggest pieces first and then use the strips to cut the next pieces. This is written as if you are using 3 green fabrics but you can use whatever you like as long as you can get all of the pieces cut. Be sure to keep your left overs you will need them for the inner tree part of the pattern that is later in this tutorial. Mark your pieces with the corresponding letter which is noted after the measurements in the cutting directions and diagrammed on the block below Cutting For Tree Block: (10”x 20”) From 2 green fabrics cut one 7” strip Subcut: 2 – 7” squares (one from each) if you don’t mind your points on each block of your tree being the same you could economize by just cutting one of these (A) 2 – 6 ½ squares (one from each)(B) From remaining green fabric cut one 6” strip Subcut: 2 – 6” squares (from the new fabric and one from one of the other two 7” strips you already have) if you don’t mind your points on each block of your tree being the same you could economize by just cutting one of these (C) 2 – 5 ½” by 3 ½” rectangles (again from 2 different fabrics)(D) 2 – 5” squares (from 2 fabrics) if you don’t mind your points on each block of your tree being the same you could economize by just cutting one of these(E) 2 – 4 ½” x 2 ½” rectangles (from 2 fabrics) (F) 2 - 4” squares (from 2 fabrics) if you don’t mind your points on each block of your tree being the same you could economize by just cutting one of these (G) 2 – 3 ½” x 1 ½” rectangles (from 2 fabrics) (H) 2 – 3” squares (from 2 fabrics) if you don’t mind your points on each block of your tree being the same you could economize by just cutting one of these (I) From Background Fabric: Cut one 7” strip Subcut: 2 – 7” squares (or one see above) (A) 2 – 6” squares (or one as above)(C) 2 – 5 ½” x 2 ½” rectangles (J) 2 – 5” squares (or one as above) (E) 2 – 4 ½” squares (K) 2 – 4” squares (or one as above)(G) 2 – 6 ½” x 3 ½” rectangles (L) 2 - 8 ½” x 2 ½” rectangles (M) 2 – 3” squares (or one as above) (I) Instructions: From your 7”, 6”, 5”, 4”, 3” squares make half square triangles as we have been doing in the last two blocks. Marking diagonally on the background squares and sewing down each side of the line, cutting apart on the line. Square to 6 ½”, 5 ½”, 4 ½”, 3 ½”, and 2 ½”. Piece the rectangles in as you see above on the block diagram. You will need two blocks just like you see them. The easiest way to do this is lay the pieces all out so you can see the picture then piece them in rows. This block will come out 10.5” x 20.5” unfinished. Inner Tree Block You will need to piece one more block from your green fabrics. You can piece this any way you like as long as it comes out 10.5” by 20.5” unfinished. Here are two different ways you can make it. These are basically to show you that you can do this any way you like. It looks good any way. And here is a graphic of how the whole quilt goes together again. As you can see the bottom row has the inner tree. And I show a version with either piecings of the inner block. it looks fine both ways so, go easy I say :) We will have another post next week about finishing with the border.

Last Summer, during the Row by Row experience shop hop, I picked up a pattern for a row at Quilty Pleasures in Orleans, Ontario. Although I did not make a row quilt, I decided that this row would make a great table runner for my MIL for Christmas. Her father was a bee keeper so this pattern was perfect for a gift for her. I dug through my yellow stash and picked out fabrics for the hexagons. The bees are fused onto the background pieced hexagons. I quilted around each hexagon by machine. Since bees like flowers, I decided to use this large daisy bring on the back. The black and white stripe is perfect for the binding. Once the binding was on, I used perle cotton thread for the trails behind the bees. Here is the finished runner. I think my MIL will be pleased. Only one week until Christmas and only (!!!!) two more gifts to make... Yikes. I need to get busy!

I mentioned the Bucket List Club for a reason. Yep, February is for the Delectable Mountains block. This block is lots of fun to sew and design with. There are several different construction methods for this block and different sizes. It also shows lots of design possibilities. I love the scrappy one! The block begins with easy 8-1/2" squares. I used this construction and dimensions for my delectable mountains collection which I'm sharing here. http://quiltville.com/delmtspf.html Here is my delectable mountains table runner. It measures 12" by 45". You will notice that I trimmed off the square corners. This created a bit of a challenge with the binding. I think I created 60 degree corners. One corner didn't make for a smooth mitre. I should have rounded them off. Naturally, I played around with this block design in EQ. Here are a few layouts for table runners. They are all designed with the block dimensions from quiltville.com. The differences are achieved by how you rotate the blocks. Examples 1 and 2 use 12 blocks each and examples 3 and 4 use 16 blocks each. Each 8-1/2" square makes 2 blocks, one and another one reversed. For example, if you wanted to make runner #4, you only need to start with 8 light color blocks and 8 dark color blocks. Stay tuned for the table topper. It's nearly ready!

Fall is finally here and the weather is teasing us with cooler days. We had to get into the seasonal spirit, and this pumpkin table...
Continuing with more of the pictures from the GSAQG (Greater San Antonio Quilt Guild) 2011 Quilt show, with the this year's theme....Call To Color. This quilt show had some of 'everything' in it; traditional pieced, art quilts, humor, vintage, batiks, hand embroidery, machine embroidery, scrappy, bargello, thread painting, landscapes, king size to miniature. I'm going to try and give you a bit of everything. Enjoy! Let's start off with one to make you smile....."I come in Piece" Honorable mention ribbon winner. A machine embroidered one and I should have got a close up....gorgeous work. Lovely bargello in pinks and greens. Machine embroidered flower blocks on batik fabrics. A couple close ups of the flower blocks....very pretty on the batiks. Perfect for a little girl's room, single bed....some of it paper pieced. Very nice indeed.....and an honorable mention ribbon. Beautiful fabrics in this one and a couple of the cranes were machine embroidered. Terrific planning and layout for this one.....picture doesn't do it justice. I loved the colors and dimensional quilting on this one. Soooooo much talent from these quilt artists. It would have been difficult to judge them. Don't you just love these large flower ones? Wow! Lots of color....very unique design. Another blue ribbon one.....for sure. And... with special recognition. A quilt show is not complete without colorful Log Cabin quilts. This terrific display of color was "part" of a quilt. Paper piecing magic........ Lots of quilts with deep rich colors..... Every quilt in this show was a winner......all 280 of them.
