The Agnes Sweater Vest is a fun and easy crochet project that is great for using up leftover yarn. This tutorial goes through every step […]
Possibly the best idea of my knitting life Short rows in the colour work. After completing row 17, I purled back across the back, turned my work (w&t) and knit back to the BOR. Next one after completing row 36: purled back across the back, then turned and knit to BOR. Third: After completing row 47, this time purling back with two strands. Row 42 could have been a simpler idea . But I had passed 43, when I realized that I wasn’t done short row-ing. Forth: before the last decreases. Longer this time, went past the shoulders. I ended with a humble I-cord bind off, and a lovely run of yarn chicken. Included a pic for the archives! Flo asked me to add some more clarification about the way I did the short rows. See the comments :) Here goes: The BOR sits just on the back, at the beginning of the left sleeve. At the first short row (after the completion of row 17 in my project) I am at BOR, instead of starting the next row of the chart - simply turn the work (using preferred short row method) and purl back to the corresponding place as the BOR sits except at the back of the other shoulder/sleeve, (I simply I eyeballed this) turn work, knit back to BOR and continue knitting as if nothing happened ;) In this project row 18 was to be omitted (a one colour row) and therefore I just continue to row 19. Not difficult at all. The fit of this yoke is amazing . All Jenn’s talk of short rows gave the most amazing out come! I am not sure she was completely with me on this wild ideas, but this is what cooperation does! Communication is key. Give of your ideas, listen to someone else. In the giving and receiving, new things are born. Never before would I have thought to incorporate short rows in the yoke colour work. Gauge I did not swatch. I did not check gauge. I have only eyeballed this project from start to finish. No measuring tape came anywhere near it. I am not saying this is something to applaud or aspire to, not at all. But I just wanted to knit , knit in peace . And this was a great project for me to do exactly that. I cast on 192 sts (XL in this pattern), the same amount that I cast on for my Afmæli Cardigan and for my Ásta Sóllilja and for my Lopi Leftovers , so I was not worried. I decreased down to 160 sts at the smallest point of the waist, and increased again to 168 sts for the bust. In this pattern 168 sts is size Small. The sleeves were knit according to size Small too: 40 sts => 68 sts. Even though no measuring tape has come near this project, I did compare the hem to those previously mentioned Lopi sweaters and it was found to be more narrow. I wrote about my suspicion about my gauge getting tighter in my Still Light Tunic Winter Fantasy project , and I think here we have it again. I don’t mind, but… I need to remember it. I am very, very happy with this project - and I am most delighted to be knitting with LéttLopi again. I love this yarn! Post-blocking gauge 18,5-19 sts to 10 cm, I have always knit at 16,75-17sts to 10 cm. Tighter gauge. Hmmm. What is going on? And do I like it? Washing - Blocking - Drying When I search LéttLopi projects on Ravelry, I very often come across comments about how much it grew. Like a lot! My Riddari grew n o t h i n g - nothing at all, not lengthwise or in any other way. And I think I know why. Pretty sure I know why. We all know that when a garment is wet it is shapable. Too wet = too heavy and it can be pulled out of proportion if not handled carefully. So here is what I do: I wash my garment by hand in the bathtub or in the machine in the laundry house, industrial style machines, no dainty household apparatus on the wool program, with Lopi wool wash and Lopi wool treatment. If I wash it by hand I bring it down to the laundry house for a spin cycle and it I have washed it in the machine it is already good to go. When I take it out, it is almost not wet at all. Drying takes no time! Usually I lay it out flat for a bit - perhaps two hours, then I tend to hang it on a hanger to let the wind blow through it for a bit, and then we’re laughing. No size changes what so ever! I could not recommend this method more. It makes caring for your wool garments so simple. And furthermore sizing is made simple: it fits e x a c t l y the same way before blocking as after! Fitting made simple! Every knitters dream. Total weight of garment 473 gram
