The Great Synagogue in Pilsen, Czech Republic is the second largest synagogue in Europe. A Viennese architect Max Fleischer drew up the original plans for the synagogue in Gothic style with granite buttresses and twin 65-meter towers. Harbin Synagogue - Heilongjiang Province China
The synagogue was raised in 1825 instead of a smaller prayer house on the same spot. When it lost the people who had populated it in 1944, during the Hungarian Holocaust conducted by the administration of the Horthy-regime, it was completely emptied and used as a granary. In the early 1990s it was abandoned again, and its state began to deteriorate rapidly. In the last two years the roofs were repaired at least. A foundation is in charge with the save of the former synagogue, one of the nicest buildings built for this purpose in Hungary in Classicist style.
