When I first started teaching math in upper elementary, I really dreaded the geometry standards—specifically the ones about classifying polygons and creating hierarchies of shapes. For me personally, it was because I didn’t feel confident in my understanding of the standards and I didn’t really se

Identify equivalent fractions in this differentiated activity. Version 1 requires students to make equivalent fractions for 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 4/5, 5/6, and 8/8. Version 2 has all the fractions listed. Students color to show the equivalent fractions. The final product is a winter scene with snowmen. Example is included. This activity is perfect for morning work or a math center. NOTE: This product is similar to the Equivalent Fractions Flower. There are only minor changes. I use both products with my class...one in the winter and the other in the spring before testing.
Understanding the equals sign is so important. Try this simple, hands-on activity to help your young child get to grips with this crucial math idea.

This quick-paced, nail-biter of a FREE math game will leave your kids BEGGING for more! Team up to knock out the other team's player. The last team standing wins! This is by far the most engaging thing I've done for my classroom this year. My kids get SO excited when we play, and they work super hard all week practicing their math facts just so they can improve their Knockout game! Not only is this great for learning math facts, but it builds character as it emphasizes teamwork and good sportsmanship. A quick look at Knockout & how it is played: •Divide your class into 2 single file lines •Display the first slide •The player at the front of his/her line faces off against the player from the other team: the first player to answer his/her question correctly wins and returns to the end of the line. •The player who does not win goes to sit on the team "bench" to cheer on the team! BUT WAIT. That's not all. If a player faces these slides, the following could happen: •Double Free Pass: Both players automatically get to stay in the game! •Double Knockout: Both players are automatically out! •Pick a Pal: Choose a player from the bench to return to the game! The team with players standing at the end of the game wins. In our classroom, we like to keep teams the same for a week or two and keep a running score as a Knockout "tournament." We use Knockout in EVERYTHING---check back very soon for language arts, science, and social studies-themed Knockout games! This pack includes 30 slides covering doubles facts up to 10+10.
