This past Sunday we learned about the story of the conquering of Jericho. We made the "Rams" horns as our "Take Home" Activity. The horns were made before class (see previous post). During class the children added the chenille stick around the mouth piece and were allowed to color and decorate their horn any way they wanted. We also used these horns during the review game...but, more on that later. The kids LOVED these horns. They were soooo excited about getting to show their parents their "Rams" horn. Our memory verse this week was from the book of Proverbs. We said and sang the memory verse several times during class...and I am sure they will have it memorized by Wednesday. Our Review Game was a BLAST (the kiddos were allowed to blow their horns during this game.) I had the children draw card from a pile...if they picked a "Trumpet Carrying Priest" then they were a horn blower....if they picked the "Ark of the Covenant" then they had to follow behind the horn blowers as we marched around "Jericho." The children had to answer a question from the story in order to pick a card. This "Review Game" board from the Rahab story served as our Wall of Jericho. We marched around it a total of 13 times...(1 time for each of 6 days and then 7 times for day 7.) Then the kids blew their horns and shouted. Because this is a poster board type game board, I was able to let the wall fall flat. Their expressions were priceless...I love getting them excited about Bible stories. On Wednesday the children will be making this project for the Explorer Journal. The horns are Bugles (from the grocery stores chip aisle.) I coated them with a thick coating of modge podge and let them air dry for several days. They have become extremly hard and I believe will hold up well in their Explorer Journal...I love the arm on the one Priest...it has motion by adding a brad...I love activities that have the kids do several things with their hands... I believe it will help them remember the story very well. Blessings, Ronda

I saw another blogger make a fabulous Armour of God felt book activity, but unfortunately don't know what blog so can't post credit (sorry). A4 design, the soldier without his armour. I've created a couple of versions, all of which can be printed onto card, laminated and made into a great scripture related activity. It can also be printed on to transfer paper (if using a mirror image version of image. The pieces can also be matched to the correct shape/ word. A version were the pieces are all on one page. I am going to put these up on alljoinin.net but yet to do so. When I create this in felt I think I will make the man out of felt sewn so that the armour can be then gripped onto the man most effectively, I will keep you posted.

We are starting a new quarter with Elijah. I have divided Elijah and Elisha into six lessons, and I am using a lapbook for review. You can see that link at the bottom. We are continuing our study in the Old Testament. Today we are learning about Elijah. Elijah was a prophet of God. King Ahab was the king of Israel in Samaria for 22 years. King Ahab's wife was Jezebel. King Ahab was a bad king, he did more evil in God's sight than all the kings before him! King Ahab worshipped the idol Baal and he made an altar for Baal in the temple of Baal in Samaria. He also made a wooden image! King Ahab did more to make God angry than any other king! Elijah told King Ahab that there wouldn’t be any dew or rain, unless Elijah asked God to send rain. God told Elijah to go hide by the brook called Cherith. Elijah would be able to drink from the brook there and God will have the ravens feed Elijah there. So, Elijah did what God said and ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning and the evening. Elijah drank water from the brook. After a while, the water in the brook dried up from the drought, so God told Elijah to go see a widow and she would feed him. (Explain widow) When Elijah reached the city gates, Elijah saw the widow just as God had told him. She was picking up sticks and Elijah asked her to bring him a little water in a cup. As she turned to go get him the water, he also asked for a piece of bread. But she told him that she only had a handful of flour and a little oil in a jar left. She was gathering sticks to make the last loaf of bread, and then her and her son would die because that was all the food she had left. Elijah told her not to worry. He said “Make me a small cake first and bring it to me, then you can go back and make more for you and your son.” The Lord says that your bin of flour and your jar of oil will not be used up until it rains again. And that’s what happened! The widow and her son had enough to eat! After a time, the widow's son became so sick that he died. The widow asked Elijah “What have I done, Prophet, that my son would die?” Elijah replied to the widow “Give me your son.” Elijah took him from the widow's arms and carried the widow's son to the upper room where he was staying and Elijah laid her son in the bed where he slept. Elijah cried out to God asking Him why the son died while he was staying with them. Elijah stretched himself on top of the son 3 times begging God to save his life. God heard Elijah and the son breathed again. Elijah and the widow's son went back downstairs and told her that "Your son is alive!" The widow told Elijah that because of her son living again, she knew he was a man of God and that Elijah speaks the truth about God. Next week we will continue our study of Elijah. Elijah will prove God's power over the idol Baal. Lesson found in 1 Kings 16:29-34; 17-18. Today's project is a door hanger. I cut the centers out and let the kids cut the rest. Our continuing Exploration through the Life of Jesus Has brought us to the time when Jesus performs another miracle. This time Jesus heals Jarius' Daughter. We added NEW CARDS to our DO You Know? Wall. My Expectation is for the KIDDOS to be able to answer each of these by the end of the lesson. We had three new words to add to our WORD WALL. I chose TALITHA CUMI, MOURNER and SYNAGOGUE. Those are important words for the KIDDOS to understand for this lesson to make more sense to them. We Added a NEW Card to our GOD'S AWESOME PLAN FOR MAN Timeline!! Our MEMORY VERSE was Mark 5:26! I really like this picture...It had all the people that were in the house with Jesus represented and if you look through the window you will see the mourners outside! The Kiddo's TAKE-HOME project was a 3D bed with a little girl on it that they were able to make "RISE" when we practiced saying, "TALITHA CUMI." I designed the bed on my computer. Then, using various clip art I have access to I gave it a WOOD look and a quilted top. I drew the little girl a LOOOOOONG time ago...my wonderful husband scanned several of my drawings into the computer. Jesus Says, "Talitha Cumi"..."Little Girl Arise." This weeks REVIEW Game was a fun BOARD GAME. We all worked together to get JESUS from the Sea of Galilee to Jarius' house. The KIDDOS answer a question from the lesson, roll a die and then move "Jesus" the number of spaces the die tells them. There are a few "bumps" in the way as Jesus makes His way to Jarius' house. As you know, the second week of the LESSON is when we REVIEW. It gives me opportunity to correct any misunderstandings. It also, gives opportunities for the KIDDOS who missed class the first week to "CATCH UP." This is the Week we SAY our MEMORY VERSE from MEMORY and We do an ACTIVITY we add to our EXPLORER JOURNAL. This LESSON'S EXPLORER JOURNAL ACTIVITY was a POCKET "BED" and a two LITTLE GIRL...The KIDDOS colored the area around the pillow and both the front and back of the little girl. They love making her get out of bed, flip around so she is smiling and then say, "give her something to eat." I am loving teaching the LESSONS on the LIFE OF JESUS. I feel like I am learning more and more!! I enjoy writing, coming up with the crafts, activities, games, etc. It can be challenging at times....but, it is always worth it when I see the KIDDOS enjoying learning events from the LIFE of JESUS!! 1. Story (based on Luke 24:36-53; John 20:24-29) Last week we learnt about how Jesus appeared to some of His disciples. How many? (2) What was the name of one of them? (Cleopas). Where were they walking to? (Emmaus) After the two disciples recognized Jesus, they quickly ran all the way back to Jerusalem to tell the others that they had seen Jesus. The other disciples were also excited … Jesus had appeared to Simon Peter. As they were talking, suddenly, guess who appeared before them? Jesus! The disciples were startled and afraid. They thought He was a ghost! Jesus proves He is not a ghost Jesus immediately proclaimed, “Peace be with you. Why are you troubled, and why do you doubt?” To prove to the disciples that he was not a ghost, or their imagination or a projected image, Jesus asked them to touch Him. “Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.” The disciples saw Jesus’ hands and feet. They saw the place where the nails were pierced. They were amazed. But still they didn’t believe completely it was really Jesus! So Jesus asked for something to eat. They gave him a piece of broiled fish, and Jesus took it and ate it in front of it. After all, ghosts don’t eat! Jesus proves Himself to Thomas There was one disciple who wasn’t in there when Jesus appeared. His name was Thomas. When his friends told him they had seen Jesus, He still did not believe. “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.” A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.” Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!” Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” Jesus proves Himself to us We may not have seen Jesus appear in physical form. We may not have touched his sides and his hands. We may not have seen him eat a piece of fish in front of us. But we can still know that He lives in us and through us. Even though we do not see His body, we have His spirit. Jesus is alive. And He is with us every day! Jesus calls us “blessed” because of our faith in Him. Do you want to believe in Jesus? If yes, please pray with me. Lord Jesus, even though I don’t see you, I can believe in you and receive you into my life. Thank you for loving me, for dying on the cross for me, and for raising from the dead. Thank you for your Spirit living in me always. In your name I pray, Amen! 2. This is the final lesson in the Life of Joseph series. This also includes printables for the Twelve Tribes of Israel as discussed in Genesis 49. Scripture is Genesis 47-50 Joseph was second in charge after Pharaoh. He had a family and his father Jacob has moved to Egypt. His brothers and their families have also moved to Egypt and they lived in the land of Goshen. The famine was so bad that the people have traded their livestock and land for food. Joseph is in charge of making the trade and then he gave the money, animals and land to Pharaoh. Pharaoh owns all the land now except for the priest’s land. Jacob did well living in Egypt and he prospered. He lived in Egypt for 17 years. When Jacob/Israel knew he was close to dying, he called for Joseph to come. Jacob was 147 years old. He asked Joseph to promise to take him from Egypt and bury him in his family’s burial place when he died. Joseph promised that he would. After a time, Joseph was told that his father was sick. Joseph took his two sons Manasseh and Ephraim with him to visit his father. When Jacob heard that Joseph was there to visit him, he sat up in his bed. Jacob told Joseph that God blessed him and told him that he would have a large family and the land of Canaan would belong to his descendants forever. Jacob said his sons and their sons are a part of him. Jacob was old and couldn’t see good and asked Joseph who the boys were that were with him. He told his father that they were his sons and were born to him in Egypt. Jacob wanted to bless them and told Joseph that he didn’t think he would ever see Joseph’s face again (when he thought Joseph was dead). But, now God allowed him to see Joseph and even his sons. Joseph took Ephraim (the youngest) with his right hand and Manasseh (firstborn) with his left and took them close to Jacob. He asked God to bless them, to let them remember God and to multiply their families. Joseph saw that Jacob had his hand on Ephraim’s head and didn’t like that the younger son was receiving the blessing. He thought his older son should. Jacob told him that although his firstborn Manasseh would be great; his younger brother Ephraim would be greater. His descendants would be a multitude of nations. Jacob told Joseph that he was dying and had given him one portion of land more than his brothers were given. Jacob had fought for it himself with his sword and bow. He talked to his other sons and blessed each of them. He told them to bury him with his ancestors in the cave in the land of Canaan. It was the cave that Abraham had purchased. Abraham and Sarah, Isaac and Rebekah and Leah were buried there. Joseph cried when Jacob died and told the doctors to embalm him. It took them 40 days to embalm people and the Egyptians mourned Jacob for 70 days. Joseph asked Pharaoh if he could bury his father in Canaan like he promised to. There was a great number of people (Egyptian and his family) that went with Joseph to bury Jacob. They mourned for another 7 days at the threshing floor of Atad. Everyone returned to Egypt. Once their father was buried, the brothers began to worry about Joseph. They thought he might hate them and want to punish them for their evil they did to him. Joseph cried when he heard this and told them not to be afraid. He comforted them and spoke kind words to reassure them. Joseph told them not to be afraid. He said he would take care of them and their children. Joseph continued living in Egypt and lived 110 years. He was able to see three generations of Ephraim’s children. He told his family that he was dying and said that God would keep His promise to take them back to Canaan. When they returned to Canaan, they should take his bones with them when they left Egypt. Joseph was embalmed and put in a coffin in Egypt. He stayed faithful to God. The application pack includes the question and answer worksheet with a teacher's answer sheet.
