Today, I had a super successful lesson. I recently picked up the newest Pete the Cat book and it is so adorable! It's called Pete the Cat: Rocking in my School Shoes. As you can see, this one is really music friendly. I showed them the video of the song. They really got into it, singing and dancing along. I liked showing them the video first so they could sing along when we got to the song in the story. Here's the song: Once we heard the song, I read the book and each time we came to the song in the story, we sang it together. Next, I showed them a Pete the Cat video of The Wheels on the Bus We did all the typical motions for this tune, then we sang a verse without the music. I handed out rhythm sticks and we changed the words to "The sticks on the bus go tap, tap, tap (scrape, drum, pound, hammer and roll). This is an easy way to incorporate instruments in Kindergarten. My students are trained to sit with the sticks in their laps, together, with both hands holding them, one at each end. I tell them to keep them quiet or I'll take them back. It only took once for them to realize I wasn't joking. To end class, they worked on a Pete the Cat coloring page. I paired a reader with a non-reader and had them work together. The worksheet had the students color Pete's shoes different colors. The shoes were labeled with the color. By pairing the students, I wasn't answering a million questions, and it gave the students an opportunity to peer teach, even in Kindergarten. They took it so seriously and it worked like a dream. Here is the coloring sheet and the link that I borrowed from Heidisongs.com http://www.heidisongs.com/Free_Downloads/assets/Pete_the_Cat-Color_Words.pdf

I like it even BETTER now! Best of all, it's only $1.00!!! Woo-Hoo! Everything you need to make a class book of awesome adjectives! The Cover Inside Pages - Print one page per student. The Last Page of the book:) Here are a few examples: This pack also includes extra shoe patterns: I cut them out (just quickly cut them out in squares/straight lines) and gave each student a shoe to color and had them cut out around the edges. This BUNDLE contains 8 Sea Symmetric Pictures and 8 Sea Math Mystery Pictures to have fun for the End of the Year or Summer! - 8 Sea Pictures to work on symmetry. 3 levels of difficulty for differenciation. For the level 1 the drawing is complete and the student must color symmetrically. For the level 2 half of the drawing and part of the other half are done and the student must complete and color symmetrically. For the level 3 half of the drawing is done and the student must do the other half and color symmetrically. This product is different from other symmetry products. The drawings are my own and are made geometrically so that the symmetry work is a real precision work and locating on the grid. The drawings are more or less difficult. - 8 Sea Math Mystery Pictures to review the 4 operations. This product is aligned to the Common Core standards. Each Mystery Picture has 8 different worksheets to allow you to differentiate: two sheets of mixed additions and subtractions with equations (EASY and HARD), two sheets of multiplications (EASY and HARD), two sheets of mixed multiplications and divisions with equations (EASY and HARD) and two sheets of mixed 4 operations with equations (EASY and HARD with priorities and brackets). The EASY level will consolidate the concepts of Grade 4 but may also be sufficiently challenging for Grade 5 students. Some operations are difficult, especially additions and subtractions (most of them are in the HARD level), and will require the student to write to think or even to do the whole operation. All operations are within 1000. The product also contains the 8 pictures in small size (8 sheets of 24 pictures) that you can give to the students when they have successfully completed a mystery picture or that you can obviously use for something else! If you want to buy this product but are not sure which grade to buy: - for grade 3, the easy level has multiplications up to 5, the hard level up to 9 - for grade 4, the easy level has multiplications up to 9, the hard level up to 12 - for grade 5 the easy level has multiplications up to 12, the hard level multiplications of one digit number with a number up to 40 These activities are a great addition to any math center and are perfect for early finisher, substitutes or homework!
