I got this recipe out of a Gooseberry Patch cookbook and it is one of my stand-by recipes when I am watching my calories and fat. Since I am doing just that right now, thought I would put it on the zaar for easy access and hopefully someone else likes this recipe as good as I do. (I prefer to sub 3/4 of the white flour for whole wheat and use brown sugar instead of granulated sugar. I think fresh nutmeg is the key in this!)

After 4 month of abstinence I was so glad, that I could make it to the BerlinModernQuiltGuild-meeting (BMQG). We had a very interesting subject: sewing seams with the Pojagi-technique. These are hidding or neat seams, so you can turn-over the finished piece and use it from both sides. Nach 4 Monaten Abstinenz habe ich es endlich wieder geschafft zum Treffen der BerlinModernQuiltGuild-meeting (BMQG) zu gehen. Wir hatten ein super interessantes Thema: Nähte nach der Pojagi-Technik. Das sind versteckte bzw. saubere Nähte, womit man beide Seiten des fertigen Werkes nutzen kann. We had gogeous instructors in Nadia and Suschna - both are real textile artists and they told us a lot about the tradition of Pojagi. There are masses of pictures and tutorials in the www, but it´s not comparable, if you have a live-presentation. Wir hatten tolle Referenten in Nadia und Suschna - beide sind echte Textil-Künstelerinnen. Sie haben uns eine Menge über die Tradition des Pojagi erzählt. Es gibt Massen von Bildern und Anleitungen im Nezt, aber es ist halt nicht das Gleiche wie eine Live-Präsentation. We had two section - one sewing by hand and the other sewing with the machine. Wir haben uns in zwei Gruppen geteilt - die eine nähte mit Hand, die andere mit Maschine. This is what I made with the machine. I finished it with a classical quilt-binding. It looks like stained glass. I brought fabric with me and got some nice points from Tacha and linen from Caillean Z. Das ist mein fertiges Werk. Ich habe es klassisch wie bei einem Quilt eingefasst. Ich habe Stoffe mit gebracht und von Tacha die Punkte und von Caillean Z Leinen "geborgt" ;-) If you want to try it the mashine-way - lightly modified: Wenn du es auch mal mit der Nähmaschine probieren willst - leicht modifiziert: Fold the fabric as wide as you like to see your seam later and press (iron or finger): Falte den Stoff so breit, wie deine Linie am Ende zu sehen sein soll und bügel es: Fold it a second time, so you have a neat line and press: Falte es ein zweites Mal, so dass eine saubere Kante entsteht und bügel es: Now take your second fabric and slide it in the pressed pleat: Nun wird der zweite Stoff in die Bügelfalte reingeschoben: Sew the both fabrics together at the inner line very close to the edge: Nähe die beiden Stoffe an der inneren Kante ganz nah am Rand zusammen: Fold the two fabrics apart, so you can look on your sewing line and sew a second line on the seam - you can press the two fabrics apart, this makes it more comfortable: Nun die beiden Stoffe auseinander falten, dass die gerade genähte Linie nach oben zeigt und eine zweite Naht setzten - wenn man die beiden Stoffe auseinander bügelt, geht das noch einfacher: This is how it looks from both sides: So sieht es dann von beiden Seiten aus: Great and simple technique - I love it - thanks to the both Ladies! I subbed today in my former classroom! The current teacher was busy all day setting up for tomorrow's art show, so I got to spend my day with the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade, all my former students. It's so much fun to sub there - the kids treat me like a celebrity and are always so excited to see me there. Lots of hugs!!! And lucky me - I had a really fun day. The 4th graders folded paper into 6th's and painted each square to become a different scoop of ice cream - actually, five scoops, and one square for the cone. I look forward to seeing these when they are complete! Because I know the kids and love painting with them,the teacher let me decide how to set it up and I was happy with the way the kids painted. Not sure that the colors are true in these photos, but you get the idea. The 5th graders were working on Wayne Thibaud cakes, but I don't have any photos, and the 6th graders were finishing up some work, scrubbing and scraping tables, and sorting markers, as well as helping with the art show setup. At the end of the day, I stopped in the gym to see how the show setup was going and shot some photos to share with you here. They were still hanging more work when I left. (It's a K-13 art show, 2 art teachers; it takes place on school budget vote day, plus there's a concert, too! Busy day/night in the school!) The photo above is of course, me. They have this at the art show for fun photos! AAAAHHH!!!! Below, a paper weaving project, I believe 6th grade. Next, some mandalas, with a CD in the center, made I think by 4th graders. Some construction paper molas by 6th grade. These are, like authentic molas, a 'reverse applique' method, which means that instead of stacked layers, layers are cut into to reveal layers underneath. Japanese carp kites. Not sure of the grade level. 5th grade I think. Wampum belt weaving with pony beads, by 4th grade. Sailboat painting/collages. Maybe 2nd or 3rd grade? Somehow it seems I didn't get any photos from Kindergarten or 1st grade. Papier-mache fish - 5th grade? 4th grade? Not really sure... Circular weavings - again, not sure of the grade. A high school Studio in Art (9th grade) color harmony project. The coolest things ever, these elementary circular weavings on red clay looms (the color looks brown in these photos, but it was really more reddish I think.) And a few more random pieces from some secondary students.
