The importance of the lesson plan reflects from the pupil's educational growth which depends on the selection of the subject matter activities, experiences, and methods adapted to his interests, needs, abilities, and level of maturity. Basically, the selection of the subject matter activities depends on the program in implementation of the K to 12 curriculum that considered the mother tongue as the core of development learning in the basic education program. Furthermore, the articulation of the instructional process is designed based on the student teachers' ability to present the teaching method to develop the interests, needs, and abilities of the pupils. The learning objectives in the study of lesson plan considered the pedagogical content in including as much as possible not only in the cognitive domain but also affective and psychomotor. It has been the major challenge of the student teachers to formulate the completeness of the lesson plan .

For the past few art classes, 5th grade has been working on their printmaking project, and learning about the Mexican holiday, Dia de los muertos. Calaveras, or skulls, are one of the many symbols of this meaningful holiday, and will be the subject matter for this project! We will be learning about the customs of this time and how it celebrates the memory of loved ones, no longer here. There are a lot of colorful decorations such as, candles, flowers, food, photographs, that decorate the "ofrendas" of their loved ones. You will see many calaveras that are covered in designs and color, in the decor, and that is where we're getting our inspiration from. We're also learning about another country's culture in the process, which is one of our art standards! Here is a great website that further describes the customs of this day Dia De los Muertos facts Here is the process by which these artworks are created! Supplies: You need Sax foam printing plates (we used 4x6"), 4x6" drawing paper, Tru-Ray construction paper pencil, tray, Speedball printing ink, a brayer, and protective paper for your tables (because this can get messy!) Day 1: Talk about Dia de los Muertos and start our calavera drawing. The students will draw their skulls on their 4x6" piece of paper, with the teacher. After they draw their outline, they will add details, such as flowers, hearts, vines, lines, and shapes. I have printouts of sugar skulls for the students to look at. There are so many different designs you can add to your drawing! This sketch will be placed on top of the foam and the students will go over their drawing, to create an imprint onto the foam. Here are some super skulls drawn by Mrs. Roger's 5th grade class! Day 2: Trace the drawing on the foam again, because your marks must be good and deep for them to show up! Once their printmaking foam is ready, they are ready to print. There will be a printing set up on each table, and the students will pull their own prints. Once they get a good one, we'll trim off the edges of the paper, and glue it to a background that they can decorate. Here's some awesome student examples! Mrs. Stacey is so proud of y'all! Here are some great examples from Mrs. Sisco's class!
Monet's subject matter is especially family friendly and generally enjoyed by most everyone. So if you're looking for a painter to begin your artist study with, Monet is a great choice!

4th grade has been working on their Romero Britto style self-portrait, inspired by Cassie Stephens, for a few weeks now, and they're turning out so well! For those of you who don't know who Mr. Britto is, here's a self-portrait he created. He is a very talented artist, from Brazil who is known throughout the world for his colorful and unique works of art! Here's how we created ours! Materials: Markers pencils Sharpie Markers Day 1 -3: The kids see examples of his work, and the work of other students their age. We draw the portraits together, use lines to divide the background, and talk about what designs we can use in our backgrounds too. After they draw everything out in pencil, we trace with Sharpie Markers, and we colored ours in with Mr. Sketch markers. When we color with markers, I remind them about "lawn mower coloring", and how it looks a little better to color in one direction! Day 1 progress with 5th grade (2019) This project took them 2-3, 45 minute classes. Here are a few of our fabulous fourth grade examples!
Let me start out by saying this has been one of the most successful and visually stunning projects that I've ever done with my students. It is definitely the most exciting printmaking project that we've ever done at Thomas. I wrote the lesson and went into the project thinking that it would probably be pretty good. I told my students that I'm absolutely blown away by the results of their talent and hard work. This lesson is a keeper. My previous 4th grade printmaking lesson was decent, but not outstanding. It was too similar from an art-making perspective to the Wild Things I do with my 2nd graders. This year, I really wanted to push the medium a little more by printing with multiple colors. I ended up deciding to push it to three colors and add in a little vocab by also bringing in the use of complimentary colors. Check out the lesson plan here! Close up of the piece above. Wow. Whew. That was a lot of examples, right? I just couldn't help myself this time. They were all so good that I had to show them off. If you're still reading, you're in luck. I'm going to tell you how I did this project and I'm going to use pictures! Let your inner kid rejoice. Start with a drawing of whatever you want to print. I had my kids do animal portraits. I gave them each a piece of the foam they would be printing on, then had them trace around it to give them the size of the final artwork. I then collected the foam for use the following week. Tape your drawing over the printing foam and use a dull pencil or other blunt tool to press down on the lines of just the outline of the subject. Take the paper off and press down again to make sure the marks are deep enough to make proper prints. I had my students make sure they ended up with three good prints of the background on the first day of printing. Re-tape the original drawing the following class. Press down any remaining details. Cut out the subject along the line that was pressed down last time. Now print with this piece directly on top of the original prints. I had my students use at least one set of complimentary colors. On the final day of printing, cut out a small detail that makes sense to print in a third color. Then, you guessed it, print this piece right on top of the original prints. This was my demo piece I did with the materials above.
