Hello stampers! If you grew up in the eighties like me, chances are that you know Lady in Red by Chris de Burgh. I really do love this song and I also love the colour red. No surprise then that I chose to highlight the colour red in my creations using the Parisian Blossoms suite. Cherry cobbler to be specific, but Lady in Cherry Cobbler doesn't sound quite as catchy, more like a gluttonous mini person caught in a dessert pan! I hope you are inspired by my projects today as I have been inspired by Stampin' Up's! Artisan Jackie Aitken and her beautiful Painted Poppies cards Although my cards aren't exactly the same I have chosen the stamp set Painted Poppies the layouts, the colours and certain elements Jackie has used for her cards. These cards will be featured in my upcoming Stamp Club class. As a part of the January class every year I normally include some form of calendar. This year the ladies will be making this little covered notepad which holds a coordinating Stampin' Up! pen. The inside reveals a the notepad plus a tear-off calendar and a perpetual calendar to record all those important dates such as birthdays and anniversaries to help keep track during the year. I have stamped the covers of the notepad and perpetual calendars with the stamps from the Painted Poppies stamp set. When I opened my new box of Stampin' Up! 2020 supplies, I just had to use the Peaceful Poppies designer paper from the new Stampin' UP! 2020 Jan-June Mini catalog first!! I created 72 cards with the Peaceful Poppies suite of products by cutting each piece of designer paper into 6 cards fronts. I chopped all of the designer paper into 4' strips and then cut the strips into 5-1/4' x 4' pieces. NOTE: when you cut the design with the poppies on the tall stems (front/center in photo above) be sure to cut that extra 1-1/2' strip out

The design team are hopping to share loads of inspiration with a theme of Celebrate! I have been a part of this wonderful challenge group since March 2011, click Here if you would like a peek at my very first official design team post...It has been nearly 9yrs of wonderful friendships, gorgeous inspiration and loads of fun, laughter and special memories. As part of our milestone celebrations the design team are offering prizes (South Pacific participants only). Our Top Pick & Honourable Mentions will receive a special gift. Hello stamping friends! Welcome to the Stampin' Up! Artisan Design Team blog hop, where this month we are all about the amazingly beautiful Peaceful Poppies Suite which is found on pg. 24 - 27 of the Stampin' Up! 2020 Jan - Jun Mini Catalogue. The hand painted blooms and watercolour washes in the gorgeous DSP make for beautiful backgrounds on all your projects. The Peaceful Poppies Suite Bundle includes two stamp set and die bundles for even more fun! The outline poppy images accented by watercolour effects allow you to choose from a large range of inspiring coordinating colours to design your projects. This suite can be used for any occasion, whether it be for sending a birthday card, your deepest sympathy, or celebrating a friendship, your handmade creations are sure to shine as bright as a field of poppies when creating with this suite. Click picture to shop products from my store. While the suite has lots of reds and purple colours I've moved away from these colours today to show you some projects in some softer pink colours. Before I made my two cards I did a bit of a Google search to see what colours Poppies actually come in, I'm not much of a gardener, so I wouldn't know, and it turns out they come in a whole range of colours. Ranging from whites, pinks, reds, purples, yellows, oranges and even blues. I've even only known them to be red because of their association with Rememberance Day (11th Nov) and ANZAC Day (25th April) here in Australia. The red poppy is a symbol of both Remembrance and hope for a peaceful future. Poppies are worn as a show of support for the Armed Forces community. My two projects today are incorporating some of the pink colours in the Stampin' Up! colour family for a softer and 'pretty in pink' look. My first card uses Shimmery White Cardstock, my favourite 'white', for the base layers and then over that is a layer of vellum embossed with the 3D Scripty Embossing Folder. If you were to pick one embossing folder to go with everything, that would be the one I would tell you to choose. It's just gorgeous. Over the base layers I've put some pieces of Basic Black cardstock and then layered over that is the large Poppy blooms in the colours Petal Pink, Blushing Bride and Flirty Flamingo. Pretty!!! Layered with the Poppies is some of the leaf die cuts as well as some pieces from the Peaceful Poppies Elements. I love the look of layering the two pieces of the Poppy in the same colour for that tone on tone look. It makes it look like the Poppy Blooms are all one piece. The accents of the gold sequins, from the Peaceful Poppies Sequins, and the Gold Glimmer Paper really gives the projects that 'finishing touch'. My second project again starts with the Shimmery White cardstock for the base, the same as the first card. But this time I've layered the Poppy Blooms under a Stitched Rectangle Frame for that layered framed look. I've used the same colours again for the Poppy flowers and accented the main flower with the left die cut and some pieces from the Peaceful Poppies Elements. The 'Happy Birthday', the same as the first card comes from the Peaceful Moments Stamp set. The card has then been finished off with some Linen Thread, Whisper White Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon, Gold Sequins from the Peaceful Poppies Sequins and some Gold Glimmer Paper. I do hope that when you get products from a suite that you do try to use them with colours other than the coordinating ones. You'll be amazed at the different looks you can get when you change things up a bit. Now on to the oh-so-amazing Stesha Bloodhart in the U.S. with her stunning Peaceful Poppies projects. That girl is so creative. I'm sure she will provide you with lots of inspiration. There are so many amazing projects with this suite to get the creative ideas flowing. Yesterday I was in Paris (see that card here) and today I'm in Hawaii. Well, not really, but I have been living vicariously through my card-making. 😉 Here's a card using some new goodies that will be available tomorrow, January 3rd. The Timeless Tropical Bundle (stamps and dies, which, if you buy them together you'll save 10%), evokes all things tropical - flowers, palm trees, pineapples...a perfect bundle for these gray, rainy days. Don't you just love that pineapple? There's a die for that! And the flowers: I think my coloring skills still need some development, but I did try something new. I stamped the flowers with Soft Suede ink, then first colored them with the Watercolor Pencils and a Blender Pen. This gave me the fine lines emanating from the center of the flowers. But I wanted a deeper, richer color, and even though I went over them several times, I couldn't quite achieve the shade I wanted. Enter Stampin' Blends! Just a touch of Cherry Cobbler made it happen! And I used some So Saffron to add a bit more yellow. The leaves were done with the Combo pack of Old Olive. The card base is Pear Pizzazz, with a second layer of the same color embossed with the Coastal Weave embossing folder, then sponged with Pear Pizzazz for a little added depth.
