About The Artwork A Saturday evening on the Java Island, a peninsula in the waters of Amsterdam. The darkness had just set in and around supper time many people were returning home. In several appartments the light was being switched on which created an intriguing pattern of inhabited squares in the dark background. Because the block of houses is right above the water, the window reflections are being echoed beautifully by the moving water. About The Artwork This work was inspired by my dreams and is symbolic of my feeling to be free in the risks I take to live a productive and successful life. I find being a woman we are less likely to take risks and that's why I have portrayed a man diving. Men are more likely to try for something without waiting to be ready. In reality there is no ready. No good time to try something new. I have found if I am starting something new there is no good time or right time and waiting for it to arrive is pointless. We are never really ready for what's ahead of us. Freedom lies in the unknown. I have lived my life taking risks especially when I am not fully ready and that has made all the difference to my life. Its challenging and exciting to step out into the unknown and Ive always found that its only when I take action that I see the next step clearly. When I exhibit this image I love when people walk up to it to see whether it's a photograph or a painting.... I have lost count of the number of people who tell me that they have had a dream like this. In the end we are all the same. Same fears, same worries, same situations. same risks, same dreams. As the saying goes....... feel the fear and do it anyway. This is one of my best selling prints and I'm delighted to have it here on Saatchi Art as a limited edition of 5. Throughout her career, Ani has never shied from pursuing new musical directions. On Evolve the singer/songwriter/guitarist continues to grow, incorporating a wide spectrum of sounds and ideas with the restless energy of a born innovator. "I'm especially excited about this record," Ani said, "'cause it's a realization of all of the work put in with my band, of a vision that developed along the way." Ani's evolution as a producer and arranger is evident throughout; the record is a seamless blend of lush, vibrant textures, courtesy of the talented and versatile musicians who toured with her for several years before her recent return to performing solo: Julie Wolf on keyboards, Hans Teuber on flute and reeds, Jason Mercer on bass, Daren Hahn on drums and Todd Horton, Ravi Best and Shane Endsley on brass. Ani's as comfortable as ever with her fellow musicians, and vice versa - Evolve is a carefully-crafted studio creation that still possesses the loose spontaneity of a live show. "We developed our own vocabulary, our own aesthetic over the years," Ani said. "There wasn't a lot of precedent for what we were doing - we came from a lot of different places: jazz music, rock bands ... It was an interpretive collective that involved a lot of me just listening, picking up on what they brought to the table." In between the gentle opening tones of "Promised Land" and the hushed closing chords of "Welcome To:," the record encompasses a variety of styles, from soaring three-part harmonies and DiFranco's trademark acoustic fireworks to horn- and clavinet-driven funk and syncopated Latin grooves. "Serpentine" is a sprawling, 10-minute opus rooted in Ani's solo finger-picking work and passionate spoken word performance. When asked about the origin of the album title, Ani explains that "by the time I was recording the last few songs on the album, I felt like I was evolving - I wanted the album to open up a little bit and get out of that band-focused phase. Songs like "Evolve" and "Serpentine" are pointing in the direction that I'm going now, finding my own voice in the wilderness of all of those people. This record represents the culmination of a certain musical era, and it gives a little glimpse of what's to come." Favoring whispers over screams and delicate, open chords over power strumming, Evolve takes an intimate look at a world as determined to change as the singer herself. Released: March 2003 2003 GRAMMY award winner for best packaging Please Note: MP3 files will arrive as a zip file and will not work with iPhones or iPads.
About The Artwork The rainbow as a combination of light and water is a fascinating phenomenon for the painter. It is a fleeting celebration of color. It is also a big challenge to convey this luminosity using painting methods. I love challenges and I love the rainbow. The painting is one of the series of rainbows seen by the sea. I saw this rainbow from the windows of my house. About The Artwork Underwater is one of the most demanding, yet rewarding environments for fine art figure photography. Bodies, attitudes and relationships transform in a gravity-free environment, creating new options for images that would be difficult or impossible to achieve on dry land. These images are photographed in swimming pools in and around Los Angeles, using only natural light. Each one requires many hours of computer retouching and enhancement to bring out the color and detail that underwater photography often lacks. Limited edition prints are made on heavy fine art paper and have a greater life expectancy than archival wet process prints.
