Good morning Scrappers! Today marks Week 6 and the final Scrap Elimination blog of the summer. It has been a busy summer making fun projects out of my scraps and I love the results. This last one is perhaps my favorite, so I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. This week we are going to be using up 1 1/2" strips. You could also make this project with 2 1/2" strips, you're block would just have larger strips. Here's what you will need to get started! Materials:1 1/2" strips at least 7" long

I just couldn't wait to post about our Jackson Pollock guitars! The first day, third graders learned about Jackson Pollock. We read Action Jackson, and got a feel for how Pollock lived and worked. We learned that Pollock dripped and drizzled house paint all over huge canvases in his studio. Next, we did our own abstract expressionist string paintings. We used clothespins to hold the strings this year and it was SO much better than fingers! After that, we did something that Pollock would have hated! We turned our awesome paintings into guitars! Students were given a photo reference sheet that had pictures of different guitars. Everyone was encouraged to create their own designs! This project was a blast for everyone! Learning Goals: I can... - Tell about Jackson Pollock - Use creativity to make my guitar unique - Explain that a graphic designer might help create the look of a guitar!

Everything you need to transform a stuffed toy into a marionette can be located at any craft or arts supply store.
I'm the type of person that tends to start a lot of projects at once, and then get sidetracked and start more, to the point where I have to really be strict and stick to a list just to finish everything up. I get excited, and motivated, can you blame me? Everything seems like "oh this will only take a second" and it actually takes a few days, or more... Ok after reading what I just wrote, it's decided - that's my goal this week, wrap up all these random projects. I have a folder of literally 200 pictures of these random projects, waiting to be cropped, edited & assembled into posts. That being said - some of you may have seen a recent tablet order I finished up, if not - take a looksee: This was a mega-order. Four tablets. 23 letters. A LOT of string...... This was for a customer's 4 boys.... The colors are so fun - came out cute! It's so funny, I love trying out new projects or ideas that I have, and when I think it's 1) something others might enjoy and 2) something I wouldn't mind making more of, then I pop it the shop. You never really know what will be a success and what will sit there, but these string art tablets have taken off. I've been so flattered & excited to make them for people's homes, and I haven't lost steam on them at all, each one is still exciting. Plus - sometimes I need a break from perpetual home improvements to just work on a satisfying project. Know what I mean? Here's one from a few months ago that never got posted (see!? time flies....) Love that blue stain! Hard to tell in the photos, but it totally shows the wood grain. And actually, the person who ordered this one chose 4 different shades of white for the letters, but on the blue your eye just groups them all into one color. Learned a little tip there.... If you're interested in ordering a tablet or want to discuss a new project with me, I'm always accepting orders - keep in mind I need about 2 weeks (usually less) to do a custom job start to finish. Check out examples in my etsy shop: here. Alright, what are your goals this week? Do you make endless lists like me, only to stray away from them? I've got clipboards & to-do lists for days... days that I don't have - heh.... Do something you love today, hope you are having some spring weather in your area! Warm rain over here, it's so nice... -Jesse Up Next: Let us decorate with wood that washes ashore... driftwood mobiles baby! Let's keep in touch: Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter, Subscribe & of course, Email me. Want more? FREE QAYG ALONG PART 11We’re obsessed with string quilts! And they are super easy, super fun and beginner friendly, so we thought you might like to make one too. This week we were invited to make some short videos for Spotlight’s Quilting Expo, so we went totally over the top and made a 3 part series on how to make a quilt as you go string quilt from start to finish. This series is perfect for the very beginner or for those that want to try their hand at making a quilt as you go quilt. It’s full
Mia Ohberg from Sweden made these colorful zippered selvage bags. The smallest one is almost 3 inches wide. Look at those little flower buds on that bag! And all those bright flower petals on the biggest one. These fit one-inside-another like those Russian dolls. This may be the most beautiful selvage arrangement I've ever seen (above)! I love pink and black together, and I'm a sucker for florals. You can see this bag opened below. Mia planned to use it for cosmetics, but she actually uses it to carry sewing supplies. Mia has a big advantage when it comes to collecting selvages. She owns her own quilt shop! She offers to cut customer's fabric into strips for them if they let her keep the selvages. "That's normal behavior, isn't it?" she asks. Mia, that sounds perfectly normal to us! She made this tote for carrying supplies to quilt retreats. She thinks a quilt shop owner should do a little better than carrying paper bags to quilt events. Oh, this is much better! Nice job, Mia.

This print campaign for the Berlin Philharmonic orchestra uses macro photographs taken inside the cramped spaces of instruments making the inner workings of a violin, cello, flute, and pipe organ appear vast and spacious, almost as if you could walk around inside them. So wonderfully done. Art directed by photographer Bjorn Ewers, you can see more over on Behance. Update: The photography is by Mierswa Kluska and the original concept came from Mona Sibai and Björn Ewers. More

Look at this! It's by Hata Larson. The source is Postila in Russia. Even though I can't read it, each picture is worth a thousand words. This looks like fun! Knit strips couched on monk cloth. Draw the main shape, then just fill in the spaces.
