Most of us are familiar with the story of Snow White: beautiful princess, jealous witch, hitman, dwarves, poisoned apple, hero prince. A cute little tale that got even cuter once Walt Disney got in hands on it in 1937, right? It may have been more than a tale, and the true tragedies the fairy stories might be rooted in are anything but cute. Two young German ladies have been identified as possible inspirations for the story of Snow White and her jealous stepmother. Margarete von
There's a chill in the air and the time seems right for The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. This classic American story written by Washington Irving in 1820, has been illustrated by many artists. This version was illustrated by the exceptional Arthur Rackham. I'm not including information about Rackham in this post, but will do it in my next one where I'll be posting another book illustrated by Arthur Rackham. Did you ever see Tim Burton's movie version of Sleepy Hollow? I love that movie! Christopher Walken was great as the headless horseman or as called by some, the Galloping Hessian. Don't forget to click on the pics for a larger view. Ichobad Crane - what a great name for the story! From the bestselling author of Epic Zero comes a soaring new series about a misfit kid who is destined to protect the world as a mighty, legendary dragon! 12-year-old Connor Pendridge is moving... again. This time, his mom thinks their lives will be better in Lore, a sleepy island town off the coast of New England. Connor doesn't want to start over at yet another new school, especially in a place as boring as Lore. But as he quickly learns, Lore isn't as boring as it seems. That's because fantastic creatures appear that only he can see-from fairies at school to goblins in his front yard. Connor thinks he's going crazy until a mysterious woman reveals his true destiny and hands him a dragon amulet containing the magic of Excalibur, the legendary sword of King Arthur. Now Connor must use the amulet to transform into a mighty dragon in order to stop an ancient, evil sorceress from conquering the world!
