Ancient Ireland, Scotland and England had a fantastic folk religion that has been classed as Celtic. The way into understanding these religions is through the Druids.
Here's my guide to the UNESCO-listed dolmens in Antequera Spain. The dolmens are affectionately dubbed "Spain's Stonehenge." They're a must visit attraction if you're a ruin luster road tripping in southern Spain. Antequera is the perfect midway point between Seville and Granada.
Lanyon Quoit is an imposing dolmen that dominates the open landscape in which it sits. Found on the moorland near Madron in Penwith, it is thought to originally have been a burial chamber and would have been covered with smaller stones and earth. The structure originally had four supports and stood taller than at present. But in a massive storm in 1815 one of the stone uprights snapped and the structure was re-erected on the remaining three supports.

The Portal and the Cosmos Poulnabrone Dolmen portal tomb in the Burren, County Clare, Ireland. It dates back to the Neolithic period, probably between 4200 BC to 2900 BC. I took this photograph at 4am on clear Spring night. There are no cities or villages close to the Dolmen so there was not much light pollution so you could see a huge amount of stars in the sky. I lit the tomb with a torch so it stood out against the night sky.

France is, without a doubt, one of the most fascinating countries in Europe. It’s no surprise that over 80 million tourists per year are lured to L’Hexagone (the French nickname for France, which refers to the physical shape of the country) by its culture, gastronomy, fashion, history, and lifestyle. Indeed, it’s hard to adequately describe France’s appeal, that certain je
Vottovaara complex is one of a most mysterious, most strange ancient site, not only in Russia, then and in the whole world.Nobody can tell how old it is,who made it and why. Vottovaara (named by locals as Death Mountain) is the highest point in the West Karelian Hills (417.3 meters above sea level) and is located approximately 30 kilometers from the village Gimoly and about 20 kilometers from the village Sukkozero, east of connecting them with each other roads. The top Vottovaara, an area of about six square miles, there are huge rectangular stones, amazing buildings of stone in the form of a perfect circle, called by archaeologists cromlechs and about 1,600 stones seids laid in some mysterious manner. Seid — cult boulder or a fragment of rock, artificial isolation from the environment is obvious, that is, has obvious signs of human impact. Densest concentration of stone-seids — the highest point of the ridge and on the slopes of the amphitheater. Stones are located mainly in groups of two to six pieces. Several large stones, some weighing up to three tons, put on the "legs" that is stacked on several smaller stones. Most stones lying on the banks of the ancient water and cliffs. Balancing rocks characteristic for Vottovaara One of a reasons that locals named this place as "Death Mountain" is and this weird trees, twisted by some kind of strange energy, looking pretty creepy. For example, one hundred and two hundred years old pine trees are not higher than two meters. Some kind of a ancient water collectors, kind of water pools or something else? I would`t know to tell. Remains of some ancient stairs or kind of amphitheater, guessing. Stone spheres, Vottovaara`s like no other ones in the world are set on podiums. Other interested megalithic examples from Vottovaara

Prehistoric Europeans told legends about powerful, mysterious female makers of European stone tombs called dolmens and cromlechs. On the one hand, they were said to bestow riches and fertility on individuals, and fantastic gifts like brewing beer and farming; all they wanted in return was a little milk.
A "megalithic site" is, essentially, a huge structure, usually built during prehistoric times. Stonehenge, although by far the most famous, is not the only megalithic site worth mentioning. Read on for facts about some of the most famous megalithic sites.
