Are you looking for a STEM lab plan? Then this is the product for you! This is a ready to use file! Leave this file with your sub and a variety of different paper types for building............. and leave your class without worry! The lesson only requires different types of paper and tape/glue!!! This is perfect for a sub! ***Please read - this is not a sub lesson plan. This is a lesson you can leave for a sub with minimal supplies!! It is a ready to use STEM challenge. With new rules and protocols, I needed an activity for a sub to do in my classroom for a few days that do not require a lot of materials or table toys! This is what I came up with. My sub will read the story, show the video, and then go over the STEM challenge with the students. Then they will design a campsite. The following week they will be engineering and testing their designs. I feel comfortable leaving a STEM challenge like this one with a sub! Or use this the way it fits your class needs! After reading the story Camping Spree with Mr. Magee students are asked to engineer their own campsite and five campsite features. The five features have to move or work. Meaning… the student demonstrates how they work! Examples - Tent door opens, swing in tree moves…canoe ore moves…., how creative can you be? All of this is created with just paper, tape, and LOTS of STEM THINKING! I have my students for 40 minutes at a time. This lesson gives you information about the book. Then it gives you the challenge, suggested materials, and guides you through the process of getting kids ready to complete the challenge. This lesson could be used for 1st grade to 5th grade! This would also be great for kindergarten, but keep in mind that for kindergarten it is all about the experience than the final product! We are exposing them to STEM thinking. I use the book as the hook and then turn the problem into our STEM challenge. You could possibly extend it into a two or three week lesson/activity. Please feel free to share any feedback. I have more resources if you feel this one was helpful! Thank you so much for taking the time to look at my resources! Don't forget to Follow Me to see all fun, engaging STEM Challenges!! Follow me on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/stemsational_stem/ This resource includes the following: *Links to the story *Links to video on why fire is hot. *Links to video on camping needs *Challenge *Constraints *Materials list *Planning *Planning Sheet for printing *Testing Slide *Student examples *Teacher Notes *Video example I create these resources to be used in my own classroom! I teach from this very same file! It is a good visual for students and if you were to be observed by administration. It helps to guide you with the lesson and gives the students a visual of what is expected. I work super hard on these lessons because I want my students to be engaged, have fun, and enjoy learning while they are in my classroom! I try to create real-world lessons where students have to engineer and design the solution. It also gives them something to take home to hopefully explain the "process" of what they learned to adults at home! Please feel free to ask my questions and leave helpful feedback!! Thank you so much!!! See my other STEM Sub Plans too! Follow me on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/stemsational_stem/ For other Historical People - Click on the link below!
