Good morning crafty friends, Today I am sharing a layout I created for my other niece who recently graduated from High School. Her name is Selena. She is another young girl who is as beautiful inside as she is outside. Completed layout. The beautiful papers are from the DCWV Blossom Song Stack. They feature a nice variety of papers including some that are glittered and glossy. Closer look at the scalloped circle mat that frames the photo. Here's a closer view of the scalloped mat with the ribbon woven through. Closer view of the “ribbon butterflies”. I also added some butterflies I punched out from two different MS punches. Another closer view of the ribbon butterflies. You can also see one of the photo corners. This was created by using one of the MS corner punch and trimming it out. How To Create The Ribbon Butterfly-Dragon Fly. I started with ribbon and cinched it together in the middle with my white thread. Cut some lightweight chipboard-heavy cardstock in the shape of a body. Adhered the wings to the body. Used wire and a larger button for the head. Threaded the wire through and then curled the ends to resemble the antennae Finally I used some additional buttons in graduated sizes for the body length. After I adhered the buttons to the body, I trimmed the excess cardstock so that the body base wouldn't show. Very quick and easy :-) I used the following products to complete this layout. DCWV: Blossom Song Stack American Crafts Buttons Misc. Wire Misc. Pearl Gems MS Corner Punch and Two Butterfly Punches White and Soft Pink Cardstock Be sure to come back by tomorrow and check out what the lovely Cricutlicious Designers Have For you! Until then,
Hi everyone! Don't forget to enter for my blog candy here if you can make a good home for some crafty goodies. I'm adding even more ribbon to the pile! So, I haven't had a chance to play along with the SCS Featured Stamper challenge in forEVAH, but when I saw we were honoring the talented Teri Anderson (Teristampsalot) I couldn't resist! I have had the pleasure of meeting Teri a couple times at CHA and she is a sweet lady for sure! I cased her fabulous button card here. I changed the sentiment, the colors of buttons, added some rhinestone accents. I used some green/white Baker's twine from The Stamp Simply Ribbon Store to thread the buttons. I admit, this was kind of a pain. It took a long time to thread each button and get them in the right spot, but what a fabulous way to use up some buttons. I think I could easily make about 1000 of these cards -lol! How about the sentiment? It's from the Vintage Chic stamp set. ___________________________________________________________ And speaking of The Stamp Simply Ribbon Store. Sharon has added some new goodies to the store and has a little sale going on (lots of paper pads)!! Check out all the new items on the main page. I am sooo gonna get the new KaiseCraft paper pads Chapter One and Blae and Ivy and that new Sheer Pull Flower Ribbon (how cool is that?). I can't help myself, I JUST cleared out some room and already filling it up -I am hopelessly addicted to paper and ribbon! Thanks for stopping by and have a great day. I'll leave you with a close up picture.

While stamping last night, I did something I haven't done in a long, long time - I made a Stampin Up-only (SUO) card! Not just mostly SU, but all SU. Are you proud of me? The whole SUO idea usually makes me nervous, as I've become quite dependent on my Spellbinders dies, non-SU stamps and embellishments, and non-SU designer papers. But I'm happy with this one, thanks to the fun corduroy buttons and the beautiful Parisian Breeze textured designer paper. And then there's the awesome sketch I worked with - Jen's Sketch For You To Try. You can see the sketch and Jen's sample at Jen's blog, i{heart}2stamp. While you're there, be sure to give a warm welcome to April's guest designer, the fabulous Kimberly Crawford! Also be sure to take a peek at what the rest of the SFYTT sistahs have cooked up. We love when you play along, too! Remember to use keyword SFYTT if you upload to SCS. Jen, with the sketch and guest designer Amy Rohl Carole Burrage (she'll be posting later tonight or in the morning, FYI) Kelly Lunceford Susan Liles Have a great weekend! Sometimes you just need to play in your crafty space, am I right? There is no better way to recharge the creative batteries then to experiment with your art supplies. I was having a hectic few week…
Here is the third card I created for Jen del Muro's Sketch For You To Try. I am so pleased with the way this design turned out ... (if I do say so myself!) If you're a regular reader, you know I don't always love what I create. Thanks to many wonderful readers who leave such nice comments about my work, I have gotten more confident. This is probably one of my all-time favorite cards I've ever created ... I'm such an Autumn kind of person ... love all the colors! This card uses the new Autumn Vine Designer Paper from the current '08 Holiday Mini Catalog ... YUMMY!!!! The pumpkins are created using the Small and Large Oval Punches with the middle layer raised on dimensionals. The stem of the pumpkins was created from Sage Shadow 1/4" Grosgrain Ribbon, and the vine was created by wrapping a sliver of Sage Shadow cardstock around a pen to give it the curl. There are many raised layers to this card ... even the main designer paper panels backed in Chocolate Chip CS are raised. Natural Hemp Twine was tied through the Antique Brass Jumbo Eyelets.RECIPE Stamps: Holidays & Wishes Paper: Autumn Vine Designer Series Paper, Really Rust, Chocolate Chip, More Mustard, Sage Shadow, and Whisper White CS Ink: Chocolate Chip Embellishments: Antique Brass Jumbo Eyelets, Natural Hemp Twine, Sage Shadow 1/4" Grosgrain Ribbon Tools: Small Oval Punch, Large Oval Punch, Crop-A-Dile Supplies: Stampin' Dimensionals
Did you see that? Somebody tore my paper! :) I haven't been feeling well today, so I did a simple card today using a couple of different easy techniques. First, I tore my card stock. For me, this technique is VERY stressful because I do not like tearing up stuff. *shudder* I think I got a little carried away, but anyway... I then colored my stamp with markers. After it was colored, I lightly spritzed it with water and then stamped it. This gives it a slight watercolor effect without actually watercoloring. Cool, huh? This card is similar to one made for a make-and-take at the Stampin' Up! convention last year, so you can find several examples of it online. I changed up the colors from the examples because I wanted to use some pinks tonight. Stamps: Just Believe Ink: Melon Mambo, Pretty in Pink, Old Olive markers Paper: Confetti White, Pretty in Pink, Melon Mambo Tools: color spritzer Accessories: Old Olive satin ribbon, linen thread, Brights buttons

Happy Friday! Today, I have a card to share with you that is especially dear to my heart. I love, love, love this new Grace Plain Jane (from Verve)! This quote has proved itself to be true over and over again in my life! Grace. Isn't that just an amazingly beautiful word? For me right now, grace is a refuge. A refuge from fear and "what ifs" and I am SO grateful for it! I used some brand new (at least to me) Bazzill patterned paper (from the Avalon Collection). I embossed the sentiment using Black Detail embossing powder and some Spellbinders Oval Nestabilities. To finish it off, I stitched the top layer down and added some ribbon and buttons. Before I leave, I want to share a couple photos with you. I took these the other night... Can you see the double rainbvow? the second one is hard to...

When I tell people that I'm making a soft sculpture book, that is often their first question. I am not making a baby book; I am making a book which explores the softness of women. A book composed of layers (tissues, fabric?) of women's history, women from my family, women to whom the handkerchiefs concealed in the pockets of the book belonged. On Being Soft is a patchwork book on two levels; a book patched together out of fragments of fabric, and of fragments of text; of overhead conversations and asides, text messages, private thoughts. Of scraps. The book artist and critic Johanna Drucker wrote in her essay Intimate Authority: Women, Books, and the Public-Private Paradox that “It is not by accident that we see so many materials in their (women’s) (book)works: doilies, pieces of silk, fragments of kimonos, clothing scraps, soap, photographs, small scrolls, jars and other containers, reused stamps, buttons, ribbons, snippets of this and that.” One female artist who constructed a number of soft books from a life's stash of "snippets of this and that" was Louise Bourgeois. Two, Ode à l’Oubli and Ode à la Bièvre, made in 2002 when Bourgeois was ninety, are constructed from linens she collected over the course of her life, including, Ann Coxon tells us in her book Louise Bourgeois, "the set of monogrammed napkins from her bridal trousseau that serve as the backing for many of the pages". I sewed on linens of a similar age as these linens in my Cure for Love project, although they were not mine but my great-grandmother's; I haven't lived a lifetime in which to hoard beautiful fabrics rich with memories yet! Speaking of memory, Ode à l’Oubli translates roughly as "Ode to Forgetfulness"; it is the product of a long, rich life. I wonder if the phrase "I had a flashback of something that never existed", printed in red ink on one of the fabric pages of the book, is a wry reference to senility? Certainly Bourgeois' mind was sharp until the very end; she produced art right up until the week before her death. The only other text which appears in the book is also printed in red ink on old linen (red was a very significant colour for Bourgeois; she wrote that it was both the colour of blood and the colour of paint). It reads "The return of the repressed". Ode à l’Oubli is a book about repressed memories which rise unbidden to the surface; Coxon writes that its pages "tell a story perhaps only truly readable to the artist herself". The pages of the book are buttoned into the binding so that they may be taken out and displayed on a wall. The pages of my book will also be removable and rearrangeable; each will have a pair of button-holes and will be tied into the cover with ribbon. There is currently a Louise Bourgeois exhibition at the Freud Museum which borrows its title, The Return of the Repressed, from Ode à l’Oubli. I will be visiting the Museum soon to see some of Bourgeois' textile textual art in person.

Hi Stamping Friends!!! Today's the day!! It's the Stampin' Addicts Sale-A-Bration Blog Hop!!! Stampin' Addicts is my favorite Stampin' Up! only online hangout. Everyone there is super friendly and amazingly talented. It's just a happy place to be!! If you just started the hop... welcome!! If you've been hopping for a while, then you just came from Kim's blog: Stitchin and Stampin' On Paper, where she featured the gorgeous stamp set, Elementary Elegance. So pretty! If you are not sure what is going on, or you are feeling a little lost, you can check out the Sale-A-Bration Blog Hop forum at Stampin' Addicts. This will let you know all the blogs that are participating in the hop. and help you navigate your way around. As always, Stampin' Up! has done a fabulous job with the Sale-A-Bration catalog this year. Lots of great products and all for FREE!! Today I am excited to feature the Stripes Textured Impressions Embossing Folder found on page 16 of the SAB catalog. BUTTON BUDDIES Stamps: Button Buddies, Bring on the Cake Paper: Real Red, Crumb Cake, Very Vanilla, Garden Green Accessories: Stripes EF, Brayer, Scallop Square die, Square Lattice EF, Scallop Punch, Brights Designer Buttons, Modern Label Punch, Word Window Punch, Bakers Twine, Real Red Satin Ribbon This technique is super simple. You just roll the ink right onto the Stripes Embossing Folder using your brayer. Lay your card stock on the inked side, close the folder and run it through your Big Shot and viola!! Striped and embossed card stock! See those fun, colorful buttons? They are also available for FREE during Sale-A-Bration!! You can find them on page 9 in the SAB catalog. SCALLOP ENVELOPE BASKET Stamps: Button Buddies Paper: Crumb Cake, Very Vanilla Accessories: Stripes EF, Scallop Punch, Striped Grosgrain, Bakers Twine, Crystal Effects This little basket uses the same brayer technique as I described above, but after you run your card stock through your Big Shot, you ink up the Stripes embossing folder a second time, lay your card stock on it going the opposite way as before, and run it through your Big Shot again. Now you have gingham embossed paper!! I made the basket using four Scallop Envelopes. I just cut off the scallop flaps. BUTTON BUDDIES Stamps: Button Buddies, Tiny Tags Paper: Whisper White, Baja Breeze, Certainly Celery Accessories: Stripes EF, Scallop Square die, Designer Frames EF, Tag Punch, Oval Punch, Celery Satin Ribbon, Bakers Twine This card also uses the "gingham" technique. I always like gingham for baby stuff. I also used the Stripes Embossing Folder the "old fashioned" way on this card. I used it to emboss my background paper. Easiest technique ever!! :) The Designer Frames Textured Impressions Embossing Folders are also available for FREE during SAB. They are on page 13 of the catalog. ARTISTIC ETCHINGS Stamps: Artistic Etchings, You're A Gem, En Francais Background Paper: Soft Suede, Basic Black, Pretty In Pink, Very Vanilla Accessories: Stripes EF, Designer Frames EF, Neutrals Designer Buttons, Vintage Brads, Basic Pearls, Mini Clips, Crocheted Lace Trim, Striped Grosgrain, Linen Thread This is a fun technique I read about on Jan Tink's blog. It is really fairly easy. You emboss your card stock with the Stripes embossing folder. Then you ink up your background stamp. Lay your inked BG stamp on your work surface with the rubber side facing up. Lay your pre-embossed card stock on to the BG stamp. Use your finger or a bone folder to press down on the parts that are touching the BG stamp, not the parts that are raised up. Lift and you've just stamped on the stripes only!! Cool huh?!! Well, that's all from me. The next stamper on the hop is Mickey over at Paper Conversation. She will be showing you the Language of Friendship stamp set. I always love a stamp set that coordinates with our punches!! PAPER CONVERSATION STITCHIN' AND STAMPIN' ON PAPER Thanks for hopping by! Happy Stamping!
