Coastal Cabana with Seaside Notions and Prized Peony Hello. Welcome to Valley Inspirations with Andrea and the 11th Colour Creations Showcase by the Art with Heart Team. So glad you have dropped in. This week we are focusing on a gorgeous colour, Coastal Cabana. This colour is a bright green aqua colour that sits within Stampin' Up!s "Brights" collection of 10 colours. Coastal Cabana is found across Stampin' Up!s product range, including: Card-stock, Classic Stampin' Ink Pad and Ink Refill; Watercolour Pencils Assortment 2; Stampin' Write Markers; a number of the Designer Series Papers (Playing with Patterns); Playing with Patterns Combo Pack Ribbons; Holiday Rhinestone Basic Jewels and Playing with Patterns Resin Dots Embellishments. This week hasn't been my best week as health and other demands have taken their toll. I noticed the impact as I was crafting ... with dropping things, ink smudges, gluing things the wrong way round or undertaking processes out of order which led to further errors. Has this ever happened to you??? Even though I needed to undertake a number of processes multiple times, I still tried to relax into these projects and enjoy crafting. It is so good to be 'mindful', put aside other things for a while and to create. First Project: Given the name of this week's colour, I wanted to create a card with a sea theme. Apart from hero-ing Coastal Cabana, I also wanted to use the lovely Seabed 3D Embossing Folder. I started with a piece of Whisper White card-stock and laid a variegated layer of Coastal Cabana blending to light Pool Party at the top using a Sponge Roller. Sea weed or sea greenery (can't remember what they are called) was stamped in Coastal Cabana Classic Stampin' ink. I created a mask for the sea weed so the images didn't cross over each other. The sentiment from the Seaside Notions stamp set was stamped in Night of Navy Classic Stampin' ink. Some water droplets as well as some Frost White Shimmer Paint were flicked over the inked card front. Once dry, this card front was trimmed to sit with a narrow mount on a piece of Night of Navy card-stock and was cut into 4 pieces. Then, it was embossed in the Seabed 3D embossing folder - such a gorgeous effect. The embossed card front pieces were adhered to the Night of Navy card-stock with Dimensionals (do make sure you place the pieces in the right order 😞 - you can probably guess why I am saying that). A piece of Coastal Cabana Playing with Patterns ribbon was tied around the card front in a bow. The card front was adhered directly to a Coastal Cabana card-stock card base. The seahorses from the Seaside Notions stamp set were stamped in Versamark ink on Shimmery White card-stock and heat embossed with Silver Stampin' Emboss powder. After being water coloured with Night of Navy and Pool Party Classic Stampin' inks using a Blender Pen, the sea horses were fussy cut and a layer of Shimmery Crystal Effects covered the sea horses. Once the Crystal Effects dried, they were adhered in place with Mini Dimensionals. A few Blue Adhesive Backed Gems were added as a finishing touch. The Whisper White card-stock inner and Whisper White C6 Medium envelope were both stamped with the sea house in Coastal Cabana Classic Stampin' ink. Second Project: With the second card design, I thought I would stretch myself out of my comfort zone and work with a different colour combination that had been posted on Pinterest using Coastal Cabana, Gorgeous Grape and Sahara Sand. I usually am more comfortable with soft or muted colours and if I use bright colours it would be as a highlight or small touch. I started by stamping 3 peonies from the Prized Peony stamp set in Versamark ink and heat embossed them with White Stampin' Emboss powder. The flowers were coloured with Coastal Cabana and Gorgeous Grape Water-colour pencils and softened with a Blender Pen. Not wanting a wider white boarder around the flowers, they were fussy cut, trimming near to the white embossed edge. A Whisper White card front was adhered directly to the Coastal Cabana card-stock card base. The centre panel was cut from a piece of Coastal Cabana coloured Designer Series Paper (DSP) from the Playing with Patterns DSP. A piece of Vellum card-stock was cut a tiny bit smaller to allow a border of the DSP to show. Both pieces were edged on the lower edge with the scalloped die from the Peony dies. The vellum was embossed with one of the Meadows Moments embossing folders. The vellum was adhered directly to the DSP and then the panel was adhered in place with Dimensionals. To bring in the Sahara Sand colour and tie to the Gorgeous Grape flower, leaves from the Prized Peony stamp set were stamped in Sahara Sand Classic Stampin' ink onto a piece of Purple Posy striped DSP from the Playing with Patterns DSP. They were fussy cut. The flowers and leaves were arranged with soft bows in White ribbon from the Flowers for Every Season Ribbon Combo pack and Linen Thread. A "Happy Birthday" sentiment from the Peaceful Moments stamp set was stamped in Bermuda Bay Classic Stampin' ink on to a label punched with the Everyday Label punch, which was positioned with Dimensionals. I added a few pieces of Vellum leaves that were nearby (which had been cut for a previous project from the Forever Flourishing dies). Three clear Elegant Faceted Gems provided the finishing touch. The Whisper White card inner and the Whisper White C6 Medium envelope were both stamped with the peony in second generation Coastal Cabana Classic Stampin' ink. Hello, The Layering Diorama Dies (#155565) are great for creating layers. There are 7 dies in this set. I have used 2 dies on this card. I have attached a piece of Sand & Sea Designer Series Paper (#154288) to the Basic White base card (#159228). I cut the next layer - Basic White with a Layering Diorama Die, then I embossed this with the Painted Textures Embossing Folder (#154317). Another piece of Sand & Sea Designer Series Paper was cut with another of the dies. These 2 die cut pieces were attached to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals (#104430) and Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals (#144108). The seahorse and seaweed were cut with the Sea Life Dies (#155684). The Rose Gold from the Gold & Rose Gold Metallic Specialty Paper (#156844) was used for the seahorse and the Soft Succulent from the 2021-2023 In Color Shimmer Vellum (#155616) was used for the seaweed. The seaweed was attached to the card with Mini Glue Dots (#103683) and Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals were used on the seahorse. The sentiment is from the Encircled In Friendship stamp set (#155408) and stamped with Flirty Flamingo ink (#147052), then cut with the circles from the Picture This Dies (#155559). I added the Clear embellishments from the Silver & Clear Epoxy Essentials (#155567) to the card. Don’t forget time is running out to get your last chance products from the current Mini Catalogue. New month means new challenge at Moving Along With The Times (MAWTT) and I've chosen this month's theme. Yes you guessed it Under the Sea. Come and join us or at the very least take in all the inspiration from the design team and everyone who joins in. I've made a pyramid card which is far easier than it looks. You need to cut three pieces of white card that are for example 2 cm smaller in length and width than the previous piece. A simple start would be with a card base of 21cm x 29cm scored on the long side at 14.85cm and then layers of coordinating card 8.5cm x 12.8cm and 6.5 cm x 10.8cm. The white layers would be 10x 14.3, 8 x 12.3 and 6 x 10.3. To create the design you need to first of all layer the white pieces and use some Seal adhesive in the centre back of each of the top two layers. You don't want this to be too sticky so 'fluff' it a little on the back of your hand to reduce the stickiness. Then position the three pieces so that that matt onto each other with the smallest in the centre of the middle piece and so on..... Stamp your images all over the card bearing in mind that with some smaller images you will lose part of the design when you come to layer in the coordinating card, so for example be careful where you stamp the bubbles. You will then layer the cards onto your card base so that the coordinating card frames each piece of white card. These all stick flat onto each other. You can then add other details like the diet seahorse and sentiment with Stampin' dimensionals. Once you have done the basic pyramid card you can very the layer sizes, introduce more dimension and embellishments. I stamped with the Stampin' Up! Seascape stamp set and used the Sea Life dies. I love how easily you can add a sentiment and hook it into the Seahorse's tail. Check out the rest of the design team cards and I hope you'll join in the challenge. Coastal Cabana with Sea Turtle + Hello. Welcome to Valley Inspirations with Andrea and the Art with Heart Colour Creations Blog Hop. We are working though the Stampin' Up! colours in alphabetical order, focussing on one colour each week. This week’s Blog Hop is focussing on a rich deep berry colour called Coastal Cabana. Coastal Cabana is one of the Brights Colour Family and is a bright-ish aqua. As the name suggests, this colour is lovely for sea themes and could be used for so many other things. Coastal Cabana is produced in Stampin' Up!'s card-stock, both A4 & 12"x12"; Classic Stampin' inks (ink pads, spots & re-inkers); Stampin' Write Marker; Watercolor Pencils Assortment 2; Soft Pastels, Brights Designer Series Paper as well as the Confetti Birthday Kit, Light the Candle Card Kit and Ombré Matt Decorative Dots. Coastal Cabana card-stock, ink and Stampin’ Write Marker have been used in the creation of this project plus a range of non-Coastal Cabana bits and pieces. The Sea Turtles stamp set arrived in my last Stampin’ Up! order and it seemed a brilliant combination to pair it with Coastal Cabana. I recently saw a card by Kim Gibbons Fee, a UK Demonstrator and previous Stampin’ Up! Artisan, where Kim used the bubble technique. I hadn’t played with this technique for ages and thought it would be fun to try it in Coastal Cabana. I had forgotten how important it was to keep the amount of water to a minimum and found I needed to keep adding many drops of re-inker and then more & more. I am disappointed the fun bubble effect doesn’t really show in the photos. It is evident in real life but still rather delicate. I started with a small bowl, partially filled with water. A little dishwashing liquid was added to the bowl and then numerous drops of Coastal Cabana Classic Stampin’ re-inker. I put an end of a straw into the water and blew till bubbles built up and over the top of the bowl. The bubbles were scooped off onto a piece of Basic White card-stock. Initially, there was no colour effect, so I added more, & more, & more drops of ink. Bubbles were blown and scooped over 2 pieces of Basic White card-stock. As mentioned, in the end the bubble effect was still delicate but I thought it would be OK. Looking back now I would have liked it a bit darker so the effect was more evident. A little diluted Crumb Cake ink was applied with the wide brush Water Painter to indicate a sandy beach. When the front panel had dried thoroughly a little Embossing Paste was applied with a Palette Knife to the area where sea & sand converge. This was left to dry too. The small turtle from the Sea Turtle stamp set was stamped onto Basic White card-stock in Misty Moonlight Classic Stampin’ ink. The stamp was turned over on the block and then stamped over the turtle image in second generation Coastal Cabana Classic ink. They are so cute in real life. Some extra colours, depth and highlights were added to give the turtles a little more dimension. Smoky Slate, Daffodil Delight, Old Olive Blends combos were used and then the White Watercolor Pencil (Assortment 1) was used to had highlights. The star fish from the Sea Turtle stamp set were stamped in Crumb Cake ink and then over stamped in second generation Petal Pink ink using the back of the stamp. The sea dollars were stamped in Crumb Cake ink and filled in with second generation stamping. The turtles, star fish and the sea dollars were all fussy cut. This card is a simple fun-fold card, that is when the front flap opens (as above), there is another flap that can open to the right. This was created with a Pool Party card base with a smaller Coastal Cabana card base adhered inside the Pool Party card to the back panel, but with the inner card opening to the right. I have used the top of this flap for a turtle scene. They are swimming in the sea. A panel of bubble coloured card-stock was cut with a Deckled Rectangle die, then mounted on a slightly larger piece of Basic White card-stock before being mounted onto the top Coastal Cabana panel. Part of a larger filigree sea plant from the Beauty of the Deep stamps was white heat embossed in the lower left corner. (Only little bits can be seen behind the turtle & plants - but at least I know it’s there - wink). The Beauty of the Sea bundle was used to create sea plants (one being heat embossed with white on Vellum & the other die cut and lightly inked with a Blending Brush) and the anchor (silver embossed on Vellum). Some Linen Thread was tied to the anchor and frayed. The card front was created with the bubble technique panel adhered to a slightly larger piece of Basic White card-stock. A circular Stylish Shape die cut a hole through the card front and also through the Pool Party panel so the scene underneath can be partially seen. The card front was positioned with Dimensionals. A little turtle was added near the hole and some white embossed sea plant was tucked under the card front with it showing over the scene below. A sentiment from the Something Fancy stamp set was white heat embossed onto Pool Party card-stock. It was positioned with Mini Dimensionals, with a couple of star fish tucked underneath with some frayed twine (a strand of the Silver Threaded Twine that was sitting on my work station). A few Flat Adhesive-backed Pearls were scattered near the sentiment. I love these Pearls. The inner panel for writing the personal message is a piece of Basic White card-stock with a couple of star fish and sea dollar, a sentiment from the Seaside Bay stamp set and an extra Flat Adhesive-backed Pearl. The snippets of bubble coloured card-stock seen on the back panel were left over from die cutting a panel with a Deckled Rectangle die. A C6 Basic White envelope was stamped in Coastal Cabana ink with one of the sea plant stamps from the Beauty of the Sea stamp set. Thank you for calling in to check out my Coastal Cabana card. I do appreciate you spending time with me. There is more Coastal Cabana creativity so do continue with the blog hop. Just click the "next" graphic below to be taken to the blog of the lovely Di Furniss. I am looking forward to checking out Di’s creation (I wonder if it is one of Di’s amazing fancy folds).
