The Open Sea stamp set was used to create a masculine birthday card.
To say that it's been an emotional week for me is the understatement of the year. I try every day to remind myself to separate my emotions from whatever it is that's going on at work. Some days, I'm successful and often, it keeps me up at night. It's not easy not to take things personally when you have been doing the same thing for twelve years and it's really hard not to get attached to people when you've worked together just as long. Someone I met very recently told me about how damaging having friends at work can be. All I could think of was, these people are my second family. I spend most of my waking hours with them. I laugh, cry, share meals with them and celebrate special occasions and birthdays with them. We fight, get frustrated with each other and also forgive each other. That's not just friendship, that is the definition of family. So, when I say goodbye to any of them, no matter the circumstances it still gets to me. Oh well, I will be fine. A little card making and a glass of wine will soothe me. My husband has been such an awesome source of support for me especially lately when I'd come home looking so discouraged. He's my anchor. Truly. So, this card is for him - my childhood sweetheart, my best friend and one true love. Happy Father's Day, love. I CASED this card from a swap I received from Karin Braxton last year at Convention. I just changed the colors and sentiment. This stamp set called The Open Sea has just been recently retired, but I know it's an absolute keeper.
I really like this ship image from Stampin' Up. It looking on the internet this type of ship is called a jackass--barque, which is a sailing ship with three masts. It was stamped with black ink onto ivory cardstock and then cut down with a pierced circle die, leaving enough room at the bottom for the sentiment. A larger circle was cut from black cardstock and the focal image was adhered in place with Simon Says Stamp Big Mama Foam Tape. To make it look like a ship porthole small dots of Ebon
Hi everyone! Today I have a card for this weeks CASology challenge, the cue card this week is Sea. My card is also for this weeks Freshly Made Sketches challenge. Another great sketch this week that I made more than 1 card for yesterday! I used my Stampin' Up "The Open Sea" set for this card, I thought of this ship right away when I saw the cue card. The background is stamped off once and the ship is up on pop dots. I hope you enjoy and thanks so much for stopping by today!
Jaydee has set this week's challenge over at The Paper Players, to make a clean and simple card using this colour combination: I don't use Night of Navy very often, so this was a little outside my comfort zone, but I had a lot of fun with this challenge! I have inked up my new "The Open Sea" stamp set, that is being released in Australia and New Zealand on 1st December. I know I will get a LOT of use out of this fabulous stamp set. I silver-embossed the anchor on Brushed Silver cardstock, before cutting it out. The background DSP (that started off with a polka dot pattern) has been run through my Square Lattice embossing folder. The exposure of the paper's white core is perfect for this colour challenge; that was a happy discovery! Stamps: The Open Sea (out 1st December), For My Family Card: Night of Navy, Brushed Silver, Whisper White DSP: Night of Navy Patterns Designer Series Paper Ink: Night of Navy stampin' pad, Versamark inkpad Other: Silver embossing powder, White baker's twine (*new* - out 1st December), silver mini brads, silver jumbo brad, Word Window punch, Square Lattice embossing folder, rectangle & scalloped rectangle Nestabilities, sponge dauber
Wanted to try some "masculine" cards for Father's Day. These cards were made using the Stampin' Up! set "The Open Sea".

Not much time to stamp this week. :-/ I'm hoping tomorrow brings some craft room time for me as I need it! Here's another card we made at my recent open stamping event. I always like to offer a masculine option and this seems to be my go-to set for that. It pairs perfectly with the World Map stamp too. Stamps: The Open Sea, World Map, Teeny Tiny Wishes, Gorgeous Grunge Ink: Night of Navy, Cherry Cobbler, Crumb Cake Paper: Night of Navy, Cherry Cobbler, Crumb Cake, Very Vanilla Accessories: Cherry Cobbler Baker's Twine, Naturals buttons Tools: Big Shot, Window Collection framelits, 2 1/2 circle punch, Distressing Tool, sponges Moms make the best beds sometimes. :) She and "bu bu" napped and cuddled with me for a while the other day. I don't get much done on those days, but I know as she grows up I won't get this. I'm enjoying it while it happens. She's officially walking now and it's so crazy to look up and see her just moving all through the house. We'll be heading to Stride Rite soon for some real shoes!
I made this card with Stampin Up's Open Seas. WHICH is one of my favorite sets for making masculine cards. I stamped the image and sentiment with brown sugar. The DP is from last years in color paper stack. I like this card for EZ mailing..no embellishments needed!
For a change of pace, I pulled out some dark colors for a masculine card. I used the PPA # 208 sketch for inspiration. I was going to distress this up a bit but I am more of clean stamper so I left…

This is the card I made for the SU swap box that I posted about yesterday . I was late to bite on this set, SU's Open Sea, in fact I just got it a few days before the swap. I don't know why I waited so long, as I have liked it from the first time I saw it. I was thinking I had enough boats and ship stamps, I guess. I can't wait until I have more time to play with it! This is the card I made for the Christmas swap. I had to borrow this set, SU's Special Season, as the swap needed to be from the Holiday mini. I hadn't ordered any sets from it yet, only paper, ribbon, etc. I'm glad my friend had it! I used my very favorite plaid DP and cherry cobbler card stock. Have a great day!
I made a quick card for DH for Father’s Day---I had all my other cards made, then realized I forgot him! Ooops….well, technically he’s not my father, but you know….! Anyway, the sketch from Pals Paper Arts was perfect for the ship image from The Open Sea. Here’s the sketch: And here’s the card: There is nowhere my hubby would rather be than on his sailboat….or any sailboat, for that matter! So I was quite happy to see this stamp set in the mini catalog! I was a little tired of using the companion DP so I pulled out some Newsprint paper and just used vanilla and black as my colors: I made a sailor’s knot based on Barbara’s tutorial here; and Word Play made the perfect inside sentiment: Be sure to come back tomorrow for the Paper Players challenge---and a non-Father’s Day card! Thanks for visiting! (Not too happy---her bottom was sliding out of the back of the rocker!!!!) Stamps: The Open Sea, Teeny Tiny Wishes Paper: Basic Black, Very Vanilla, Newsprint Ink: Basic Black Acc: Circle Punches, Hemp Twine (ret), brads, dimensionals, TH Brick Embossing Folder
Today is the time to reveal the second challenge for my guest DT stint over at Stampin' Royalty. Thank you for everyone for submitting your gorgeous flower themed creations last week. This week we have a colour challenge for you - Old Olive, Soft Suede, Tangelo Twist and Very Vanilla. If you don't have these colours, you can use anything you have that is close. If you hop over to Stampin' Royalty you will see the gorgeous inspiration from the DT. As I went with a super feminine card last week I thought it was time for something for the males this time. I masked off the edges of a panel of Very Vanilla card and used a foam applicator to sponge a light layer of Soft Suede. I then stamped the ship from The Open Sea set. After masking off the ship, I stamped the World map in the background after first stamping it off once so it won't be too prominent. Then I added splotches from the Gorgeous Grunge set, again after stamping them off first. Last, I stamped the sentiment from the Just Sayin' set in Old olive, and fussy cut it. Then I realised I actually have the dies for the speech bubbles and felt a bit silly about fussy cutting. Last, I stamped the anchor from The Open Sea in Calypso Coral and fussy cut that too. As a finishing touch I added some Soft Suede around the edges of the front panel and attached to a Very Vanilla card. I would like to link up with the following challenges: STAMPlorations - July challenge Stamp and Distress Inkspirational - Grunge Make My Monday - The Sea Card: Stampin' Up Very Vanilla Ink: Stampin' Up Old Olive, Soft Suede and Calypso Coral Stamps: Stampin' Up The Open Sea, World Map, Just Sayin', Gorgeous Grunge

It's Tuesday so that means it's time for a Try Stampin' on Tuesday sketch challenge. Another great challenge this week. Since I needed a masculine card for this month's stamp a stack I used the sketch to make up my card. Love the set The Open Sea! There's SO much you can do with it. Don't forget to check out all the other great cards using this sketch HERE. And make sure you play along if you get the chance! A quick peek at the inside of the card... The ladies over at The Paper Players have provided a sketch for us to have a go at. As soon as I saw the sketch, I wanted to create something masculine and use a gorgeous stamp set called The Open Sea. I started with using Crumb cake cardstock as my base and then decided to use my First Edition DSP as well. The next panel of Crumb Cake, I have used some of the stamps to create my own DP. Not Quite Navy and Very Vanilla all worked very well together. I wrapped some hemp twine around the card and even tried to create a fisherman's knot on the anchor. I'm happy with the end result. Thanks for looking xxx

I love the nautical theme section of the new Summer Mini catalog, and especially The Open Sea Stamp Set (123030 wood, 123032 clear mount). This card has a fun center "gate fold" and coordinates with the Nautical Expedition Designer Paper (122343) and Cherry Cobbler Bakers Twine (123125).

For my brother's birthday. I used a Very Vanilla base, lattice squares embossing folder, matting of More Mustard and Taken With Teal, large eyelets and cording are all retired SU. The ship image is an older one from The Angel Company that I really love. Colored in Prismacolor pencils. The second picture is another little tree that I have on my kitchen windowsill, a Hallmark sugar bowl and wooden spoon with coordinating mini ornaments.

Hello Friends, Hope you had a great Father’s Day weekend! We were busy at our kids’ baseball tournament. We had so much fun and got a little sun burnt after the rain stopped J Sunday was Father’s Day. My husband had to work the whole day. We were sad about that but at the same time we were very grateful that he sacrifices day after day so that he can provide for us. We also thank our Lord that He provides the work for my husband to provide for us. We are also very grateful for our own Dad’s and our children’s grandfathers. They are still doing so much for their families. They may not see it as a sacrifice …. Maybe that’s not the right word for what they do. They have stepped up to the plate in their responsibilities as a husband, father and grandfather. Father’s Day is that day to honor them and show our appreciation for what they do and to love them. Here is the card we gave to my husband / kids’ dad. We also wanted to have fun with him at the same time. Even though he doesn’t drink beer, we thought this would be a fun card for him. The message inside the card reveals our love, admiration and appreciation for him… (I will leave that out of this post) Here it is…. Here is the card that we gave my Dad. There aren’t enough words to express my love, admiration and appreciation for him and all that he does. He has been my compass in growing up….. He has been my anchor in rough times…..AND we have and are enjoying the journey of life with him being part of it…. That’s what this card is about….He does mean the world to me/us! Now with that all being said….. Thanks for stopping by! Hope you have been inspired to share your admiration, love and appreciation to that someone special in your life. Smiles and Blessings, Tammy http://www.lovetocreate.stampinup.net/

The 2016 Stampin Up Retirement List has officially posted. On it, was this "The Open Sea" stamp set. It is one of my favorites. I have lots of projects featuring this stamp set. I'm sure going to miss it. The Typeset background paper is also retiring. This card was designed by Liz Miller. More projects featuring The Open Sea Stamp Set
Today's card is inspired by another challenge from Try Stampin' on Tuesday. I needed a masculine card and thought their sketch was a great fit for what I needed, and it went together very quickly! :) I even managed to stamp a little on the inside of my card too. I'd also like to let you know I'll a part of a blog hop tomorrow with my upline's group...the Red Hot Stampers and with her friend France along with her group...Inking with Frenchie. Everyone in the blog hop will be making cards and projects using supplies in the Holiday Catalog. So don't forget to stop by and do a little blog hopping for some great inspiration! Here's a card I made using the new stamp set The Open Sea from the Stampin' Up! Summer mini catalog. By using a wavy flag-like sentiment and the loose baker's twine you can achieve a feeling of movement, like movement on the sea. I'm having a lot of fun with the new Baker's Twine. It comes in Cherry Cobbler, Early Espresso and white and it's easy on the wallet at only @2.95 for 25 yards! I love it.
For this week's Pals Paper Arts sketch, I used my 'artistic liberty' license a bit. I love this sketch - whether you choose to follow it exactly or give it your own twist, the image of three differently sized circles is quite compelling. What fun! While I didn't work with
The Play Date Cafe had a wonderful inspiration photo this week and I just had to play along. I am more than a little obsessed with any kind of coffee drink, so it took me a bit to quit looking at the picture and actually work on my card! Don't those look yummy? Anyway, on the the card.... I'll start by saying that I don't do vintage. It is totally outside my comfort zone and I find it very confusing. Distressing? I end up way more distressed than the paper! However, I love to challenge myself so I recently purchased the Distressing Essentials kit. I pulled out my tea stain ink and started swiping, wiping, and crumbling like an old pro. I hope I managed to achieve a vintage feel to it. Any suggestions or comments from you vintage professionals? I'm so happy that Stampin' Up! decided to carry this set over through June. I had no idea I was such a fan of nautical things until I got it. I hope you enjoyed my card today! I'm off to start some pizza dough and get ready for some football! Go Texans! Stamps: The Open Sea, Something to Celebrate (retired) Ink: Marina Mist, Crumb, Cake, Chocolate Chip, Tea Stain Distress ink Paper: Marina Mist, Crumb Cake, Chocolate Chip, Very Vanilla Tools/Accessories: Big Shot, Stripes embossing folder, Distressing Essentials Kit, Mini Brads - silver, 2 1/2 circle punch, Chocolate Chip 1 1/4 striped ribbon (retired), paper snips
