Like clockwork, we're back with another Wednesday Sketch Challenge here at the MFT Challenge & Inspiration blog! Below you'll find Sketch 214. Today we are excited to welcome our very first Guest Designer at the MFT Challenge & Inspiration Blog. Say hello to Laura Williams! Laura's creative journey began when her mother became a Close To My Heart consultant when she was in middle school. Their days spent crafting together awakened her artistic side. In 2007 she got serious about card making and began to submit her work to magazines for publication. She went on to become a member of the last group of Paper Crafts & Scrapbooking magazine's Go-to Gals where she learned a lot and met a bunch of amazing and talented friends. Laura got her hands on some awesome product from My Favorite Things and got the chance to create for Sketch 214. Take a look at her project! Laura used the curve of the half circle in the sketch as her inspiration to use the new Headphones Die-namics and Keep on Rockin' stamp set (released last night!). Don't you just love how she stamped the power and pause buttons for a background and then softened them with a vellum overlay? Totally cool! Our Challenge Team has also been busy crafting their little hearts out. Here's a look at their handiwork this week. Look what Alice did! By turning the sketch 90 degrees, the half circle is at the bottom. If you follow Alice, you know she does a lot of cool things with doilies, and this is no exception. The doily becomes the resting spot for the feet of the little darling and the sentiment. Notice the shadow Alice created to ground the sweet girl from the You Have My Heart stamp set. Erin's approach to the sketch is straightforward, but her bold color sense makes this card sing. Such a sweet breath of fresh air in the middle of winter with the pretty new Spring Tulips stamp set and Die-namics which released just last night. Jill's tasty treat shines with her delicious use of the brand new (released last night!) Donuts and Sprinkles stamp set and the Donuts Die-namics. I'm über impressed with her inlaid sprinkles. That girl has PATIENCE. Miriam has created a MASTERPIECE using dies, ink, and paste. First she die cut a circle to create the base of the globe, and then she die cut the globe several times to create enough thickness for a homemade stencil. Using green ink mixed with paste and her stencil, she created a totally touchable planet Earth, a perfect rendition of the sketch. I love the warm colors and images that Vera chose for her card this week! It makes me long for adventure and sunshine on my face. I also love how she took the dots in the sketch and substituted little flags instead. It really adds to her balanced (and forever cute!) design. OK, check it. Veronica turned the card base of the design at 90 degrees, but left everything else in the sketch intact. Pretty sweet idea, huh? It gets even sweeter with the addition of the brand new (released last night!) Candy Jar Companions stamp set and Candy Jars Die-namics. It's fresh and candy-licious with no worry about cavities! I love interactive projects especially mini albums. It's so much fun to go through an album and find surprises in it. Pull a tag, open a door or turn a wheel and find secrets under it. It takes the mini album to a whole different level. What if I told you you can achieve all that but with only ONE sheet of paper? You can! here's how... First let me say that I'm so happy I can share a Youtube video tutorial with you because it's really difficult to explain all the steps with actually seeing how they work. Start with a 12x12 cardstock. I used a black one and covered it later but you can use a patterned double sided cardstock and then you can skip the covering part. Score it on the 4" and 8" marks, turn it a quarter of a turn and score again. Continue according to the items: First cut along all the lines (that are not dotted) and then fold: A: fold top center to the right. apply adhesive to top and bottom edges of right square and attach to create a pocket. B: fold down. C: fold top left square down. Apply adhesive to right and bottom edges of center left square and attach to create a pocket. fold under center square. D: fold to the right. E: fold bottom right square to the left. F: fold edge of square to the right on 1" mark. apply adhesive to flaps to create two pockets. G: fold bottom left square to the right. Fold up to close. Add tags and inserts to the pockets and embellish. Create strips of paper to hold some of the tags. The steps are a little confusing to explain in words and it'll be so much easier to watch the video. I hope you'll join in the fun and try this project. I saw Sharon Burkert's card on Pinterest, and fell in love with the colors. Now as I did not have the specific background paper that she had... I used DSP from the 'It's My Party' for my card. The sentiment is a stamp from the Birthday Banners set. I just used portions of the stamp to place the 'birthday' underneath the 'happy' (as the stamp is all on one line). It's been a busy few days but I did manage to get some cards made. I think it takes longer to get the photos and editing done than the cards! Here's a couple that I did this week. I keep seeing Soft Suede these days and I've gotta say that I'm liking it more and more. It's a good thing since the Dynamic Duos challenge this week is.... And the CAS challenge at SCS this week is Clean and Simple Featured Player Challenge mamaxsix I've been a fan of Gails for a while now and I enjoyed the excuse to CASE one of her beautiful creations. This is the card I chose. I stamped the Medallion a couple of times. Here's what came of the second try. The Technique Lover's Challenge, also at SCS, this week is Play with Balance use a stamp, image, diecut, etc. too big and one too small to create a perfectly scaled design!!! I used a sentiment from the Teeny, Tiny Wishes for the too small and the Medallion for the too big. I'm not sure of the outcome. It may be a bit too CAS even for me. I stamped the Medallion in Crumb Cake first and then overstamped the flourish from Everything Eleanor in Soft Suede. Rhinestones were colored with a marker and placed randomly to add a little more balance? There are rhinestones on the first card too. They don't show up well in the photo though.
