Brown Trout suncatcher from stained glass with hand painted details enjoys life inside the ebb and flow of the Rio Grande River, "You can call me Salmo trutta...I enjoy kippered snacks." And so it goes. The stained glass sun catcher is animated with an unusual iridescent glass from Kokomo Glass (the oldest American manufacturer of stained glass), Uroboros and Bullseye hand cast. Did somebody say cast? Ernest Hemingway leans in as he fastens another grasshopper to a hook. If you could straighten the curve of the trout in action, it would be a little over 9" from tip of tail to pout of lip...it takes up about a 5" x 5" space in the scheme of things--kitchen window? shrine to freshwater trout...woman cave? whatever strikes your fancy, eh? Did somebody say strike? Ernie helps himself to another onion sandwich as he peers into the whorl. Recap: Looking for Stained Glass Fish for your window - Hand Painted Glass Brown Trout makes a wonderful gift for Mom, Dad, old boyfriend...ahem...new boyfriend - Rio Grande River Trout Gift is on everybody's mind - Stained Glass Salmo trutta is handmade one at a time. This trout stained glass suncatcher would be the perfect gift for any fisherman or fisherwoman in your life. This fish would look best in any window that gets a lot of sunlight so the sun can pass through the green, pink, and pale yellow of the glass with ease and beauty.
Glass painter and designer maker: Jude Tarrant AMGP artiststainedglass.co.uk “I wanted to use the natural flow and bubble texture of English antique streaky glass, and I also cut glass from sheets of French St Just Bariole hand blown, and selected from interesting blue/green mixed colours, and then etched the glass to reveal areas where I could paint the fish and water weeds. This gave the impression of depths of colour through which the fish seem to swim, partly visible through the water weeds. Some sheets of Lamberts German streaky antique glass also added to the vibrancy of the work. I love the subtle effects that can be achieved through traditional etching with acid, a tricky and hazardous process and a great deal of patience is needed, but the end result is matchless. The kingfisher was etched from a streaky blue and clear, and silver stained with yellows to achieve a range of cobalt to yellow through shades of green and turquoise. Water droplets stream off as the kingfisher emerges from the river with his catch, a tiny moment of time and drama captured. The overall effect I wanted was the simplicity and harmony of an antique painted Japanese screen.”

Prints ship within 3-4 days.) The Classic American Trout Giclée Print is 18x24". The History of four Classic American Trout: Brown Trout The Brown Trout is not an American native. The first brown trout (Salmo trutta), came to America in 1883, when Fred Mather, a New York farmer imported brown trout eggs from the president of the German Fishing Society, hence the common name German brown. Later, eggs from Loch Leven in Scotland arrived and were sent to the same fish hatcheries as Mather's eggs. The prevailing account is that these genetic stocks were mixed to create what Dr. Robert Behnke - "The Trout Doctor" (a world authority on the classification of salmonids), called "The American Generic Brown Trout". In 1884, 4,900 of these brown trout fry were released in Michigan, into the Baldwin river, a tributary of the Pere Marquette making them the first brown trout to swim free in U.S. waters Yellowstone Cutthroat Trout An American native, the Yellowstone Cutthroat trout was originally given the Latin name Salmo bouvierii, after a U.S. Army captain in 1883. Later, taxonomists lumped the Yellowstone Cutthroat and what we know now as the Westslope Cutthroat into a single subspecies, Salmo clarkii lewisii--named for the famous explorers, Lewis and Clark, who first encountered Cutthroat Trout on the Missouri River in 1805. Advances in genetics in the 1960s led scientists to divide the subspecies again, restoring the name bouvieri to the Yellowstone subspecies and coining the name "Westslope" for the other. Then, in 1989, all trout of the Pacific basin were moved out of the Salmo genus and into the Oncorhynchus genus, reflecting a closer relationship to Pacific salmon. The native range of the Yellowstone Cutthroat trout includes large areas of the Yellowstone and Snake river drainages including tracts of southern Montana, northwest Wyoming, southeast Idaho and parts of northern Utah and Nevada. Rainbow Trout Native to a narrow band along the Pacific coast of North America, the Rainbow Trout is one of the most prolific and widely-cultivated trout species in the world. German naturalist Johann Julius Walbaum named the species Oncorhynchus mykiss, based on rainbow trout encountered on Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula in 1792. Oncorhynchus means "hook-nosed" describing the kype of spawning males, and mykiss is derived from the Kamchatkan word for the fish mykizha. 44 years later, a Scottish biologist named Sir John Richardson encountered a trout in the Colombia River and named it Salmo gairdneri--after Meredith Gairdner, who gave him the specimen, and this was the most common Latin name used in angling literature for the next 150 years. Then in 1989, genetic studies determined that rainbow and cutthroat trout were too closely related to Pacific salmon (genus Oncorhynchus) than to brown trout and Atlantic salmon (genus Salmo), and Walbaum's original name, Oncorhynchus mykiss was restored. Brook Trout The native range of Salvelinus fontanalis, the American Brook trout, includes much of the northeastern part of North America and extends into the high Appalachian streams of Georgia and west to the Hudson Bay and Great Lakes region. Brook trout are the only native American trout species east of the Rocky Mountains and were an important food source for the original European settlers. Later, residents of New York and Boston would take trains to Vermont and Maine just to catch a trophy "squaretail", making the brook trout the first destination fish in the Americas. Details Prints: These Giclée prints of Paul's original art are of the highest color quality and resolution available. The ink used for these prints is pigment-based, and is printed on acid-free, archival paper, resulting in a print that will last over 100 years without fading. The 18x24" print size offered easily pairs with open frame sizes commonly found in stores. Prints are wrapped in pH neutral glassine paper and shipped in 3" crush-proof tubes.

Stained glass rainbow trout sun catcher...just so there's no confusion as to size...the trout measures about 5" from nose to where the body begins to curve, and another 3" from curve to tip of tail, and about 2" wide...and as in nature, slight variations are to be expected and celebrated. So, I’m listening to Papa Noel effortlessly meld African and Cuban rumba--Cafe Noir--and leisurely cutting pieces of Kokomo Blue/Purple/Amber Patterned Iridescent glass for my take on a Rainbow Trout in action. The fins and tail are clear iridescent, and the under-body is a lovely Bullseye hand-cast iridescent white (or equally elegant Kokomo Wispy Iridescent). The details are hand painted with a permanent glass paint. After taking an Italian Inferno out of our Acorn oven, I popped the painted glass pieces in. While waiting I paired the pizza with a lovely Tripel Karmeliet from Belgium, watched a bit of Jean-Luc Godard's Breathless--taking care to catch the end..."Life's a bitch..." and then, "What did he say?" The pieces are copper foiled and soldered together with lead free solder. It looks equally funky at night with the reflective room light. And don't forget, this is a small sun catcher, if you want one bigger, take a gander at this listing... https://www.etsy.com/listing/176529813/stained-glass-trout-large-14-rainbow ...of course you can send me a custom request, and we can wrangle a specific fish to your specifications! Dimensions Redux: ...about 8" from nose to tail (curved) and about 2" from the thickest part of the body (dorsal fin area to belly). It takes up a space of 4 1/2" wide by 6" high in the scheme of things. Did somebody say, "Father's Day Fishing Gift!" If they did, this is it, eh?
