"Sprout" By Chiara Mendicino Original watercolor painting, signed. The painting was created on the occasion of the Inktober 2021, representing, in fact, the word "sprout". For this theme I liked the idea of representing a tree, or a wooden statue, dry or broken, that was sprouting new life. In the end I opted for a female figure, but I leave it up to you to decide whether it is just a statue or a living/spirit being... If interested, it is also possible to make painted copies and prints on request!

What do balloons, pinwheels and triangles all have in common? They all help us introduce preschoolers to the Holy Spirit! Simply put, my goal is to teach them that, the Holy Spirit is God, and His job is to help us. Bible Truth: Jesus sent the Holy Spirit. Bible Story: Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to be our helper. God is three in one. Bible Study: John 14:15-18, 25-28; Acts 1:4-8; I John 5:7 teach up and away, here to stay A couple helium balloons provide a great way to visually connect Jesus' ascension, which we taught last week, and Jesus' promise to send the Holy Spirit. Bring two balloons, and the children outside for this illustration. Tie one balloon to your wrist, and keep it out of sight behind your back. Release the other balloon and remind the children how the disciples watched Jesus go up, up, up into the clouds as you watch the balloon's ascent. © Syaochka | Dreamstime.com - Red Balloon Photo When the balloon is out of sight, explain that Jesus promised his friends that he would not leave them alone. He promised to send the Holy Spirit to always be with them. Release the other balloon, tied to your wrist, from your grasp, illustrating that wherever you go, the Holy Spirit is always with you. Just as the balloon is filled with air, Jesus said that you will know that you are filled with the Holy Spirit because He will give you a special heavenly language to speak. trinity triangle I use a triangle to teach the children that there is one God, who has three parts, and three jobs. To create my visual I used: foamie sheets jumbo craft sticks glue scissors Velcro Glue three jumbo craft sticks in the shape of a triangle onto a foamie sheet. Cut out a heart, cross and hand from foamie sheets as shown below. Attach Velcro to the back of each shape and to the corresponding places on the foamie sheet. I start out counting the three sides, and three corners of the triangle with the children. Then I cover up a side or a corner of the triangle with my hand, and ask, "If I take away this part of the triangle, do I have a whole triangle? No! There's a part missing." I go on to explain that God is like a triangle. He has three parts. I attach the heart and explain that He is God the Father who loves us and takes care of us. Then, I attach the cross and explain that He is God the Son, Jesus, who died on the cross for us. Finally, I attach the hand and explain that He is God the Holy Spirit who is our helper. I then cover up the hand shape with my hand and ask, "If I take away the Holy Spirit do I have all of God? No! You need all three parts to have all of God." I go on to ask the same question and make the same statement about God the Father, and God the Son. sing Three In One - this song accompanies the trinity triangle visual. Remove the three shapes from the visual used in the lesson, and then add them to the visual at the appropriate times in the song. Follow the link for the song's tune, lyrics and actions. Tip: Print and glue the lyrics to the back of the visual for ease of use. Three In One - this is a different song with the same title and same message that would work well for older children. Follow the link for a music video. play trust the guide The Bible says that the Holy Spirit guides us in all truth (John 16:13). This game illustrates that point. Set up furniture or cones in the room as a simple obstacle course. Choose two children to be a team. Blindfold one child. The other child leads their teammate through the course, without bumping into anything. Just as we can trust our friend to lead us through the course, we can trust the Holy Spirit to guide us in doing what is right. craft always with me balloons Kids are always excited about balloons! Taking one home will help them remember your lesson, and remind them that the Holy Spirit is always with them. For this craft you will need: this scripture card helium balloons tied to string crayons or markers scissors hole punch To prepare, print, cut out and punch a hole in the scripture cards. In class, trace each child's hand on the back of their scripture card. Provide crayons or markers for them color and decorate their hands. Attach each card to the string of a helium balloon. Tie a balloon, with their decorated card, to the wrist of each child. They will love taking home a balloon! © Mrspants | Dreamstime.com - Cute Girl With Balloons Photo three in one This craft is based on the visual used in the lesson. In addition to coloring and adding craft sticks to the page, you could also add stickers, or cut outs in the shape of a heart, cross and hand. Coloring in the numbers and letters on this sheet helps to develop pre-writing skills. The lyrics to the song are also included so children can sing it at home with their parents. You will need: this activity page craft sticks glue crayons paper pinwheels We cannot see the Holy Spirit, but we can feel Him. We can see that He is helping us, as He gives us the power to overcome sin, and do what is right. Pinwheels remind us of the Holy Spirit. We cannot see the air that makes the pinwheel move, but we know the air is there, because we can feel it, and we can see it make the pinwheel spin. Click here for a pinwheel tutorial. Prepare and cut the paper before class. In class, provide markers and stickers for the children to decorate their pinwheels before you assemble them. See this post for more great ideas for teaching your child about the Holy Spirit at home this week!

I wanted to create a wallpaper that would be both perfect for a nursery or a grand hallway, suitable for both the young and the young at heart. A friend looking for a wallpaper for her own nursery inspired this design. I began drawing during her pregnancy and many months of work later, the design is complete just in time for baby Maggies arrival. Her surname is Lyons, therefore Lions had to be the theme of the wallpaper. I am fascinated with Tanzania and the immense ecosystems of the Serengeti and Kitula national parks. We decided on this being the setting for the design. Loving the idea of incorporating hot air balloons into the wallpaper, an animal led safari started to shape the story. I love the traditional french toile style of wallpaper, so delicate, chic and intricate; it seemed the perfect way to layout and colourise it. The design escalated from there, with endless additions and tweaks, but the devil really is in the detail for this one. Spot all the little hidden creatures and read the tale interwoven into the wallpaper… Welcome to ‘The Lyons den’ -Victoria x The details... Our children are growing up in a world that blatantly erects walls in opposition to God and His Word. Pray that the children you teach will come to know their God, as Joshua did, so that they may walk in confident obedience, regardless of the evil that surrounds them. Here are some great activities to help them begin to understand that our obedience, teamed up with God's power, is the key to victory. Bible Truth: Joshua had courage to obey God. Bible Story: Joshua obeyed God, and marched around Jericho. God gave Joshua the victory! Bible Study: Joshua 6 teach dramatic play I like teaching little ones the story of Joshua and the battle of Jericho through dramatic play! I have this set of cardboard blocks that I picked a couple years ago to use as our walls of Jericho. Before that, I use to save ALL my shoe boxes, specifically for this lesson, and they worked great! I like to set the blocks up on a low table, with a table cloth under them. I also gather up the little people from our nativity set. The children can each hold one as they participate in the story, making the people march, sleep and shout. Using little figurines such as Lego people, army men, or anything else you may have, gives the children a perspective of the size of the wall around the city of Jericho. It also gives them a greater appreciation for the incredible miracle God did when He brought the walls down. This sun and moon visual help mark the days and nights, as we dramatize the story. I read the story from a children's storybook Bible, or read selected verses straight from my Bible, pausing to direct the kids, as we act out each part of the story. We march around the city walls once, without a sound, then go lay down to sleep, and repeat the process five more times, just as the Israelite's did. This activity not only burns off some energy, it also helps them to understand that Joshua won the battle because he obeyed, and did exactly what God told him to do, even though other people laughed at him, and made fun of him. Of course, on the seventh time that we wake up, we march around the city seven times, blow our "trumpets" and give a shout! I pull the cloth to make the walls fall down! This makes the point to the kids that Joshua's army didn't make walls fall down. God is bigger and stronger than any walls, or any army, and He made walls fall flat down. Thank You God for giving us the victory!! sing Bigger Than Big - This is a great song to sing during worship time to support the lesson. My God is So Big - This is also a great song to sing during worship time to support the lesson. They Marched Around the City - This is a fun, playful song, set to a classic children's nursery rhyme, to reinforce the lesson, or to do at any time, when you need a little filler. Joshua Fought the Battle of Jericho - This song works best as a puppet song or as a song to listen to during craft time. play they marched around the city Setup the blocks, or boxes, as the walls of Jericho on a table cloth or sheet. Sing "They Marched Around the City", as you march around the walls. At the end, pull the cloth or sheet to knock the walls down. The kids are sure to ask you to play it again and again! craft victory trumpets Here is my version of a simple trumpet craft that makes the dramatic play suggestions even more fun! You will need: scripture labels cardboard tubes (toilet paper or paper towel rolls) construction paper wax paper rubber bands hot glue gun scissors tape crayons To prepare, print and cut the scripture labels. Cut construction paper sheets into fourths, and cut wax paper into approximately 3.5" by 3.5" squares. In class, give the children the scripture labels to color. Tape the scripture to the construction paper as shown above. and then tape the construction paper around the cardboard tube. Place the wax paper over the shown end of the tube, and secure with a rubber band. Apply a couple dots of hot glue to keep the rubber band in place. DO NOT ALLOW CHILDREN TO HANDLE THE HOT GLUE GUN, AND KEEP IT OUT OF THEIR REACH. Make a "doo-do-it-dooo" noise into the open end of the trumpet for a great kazoo sound! the walls fall down This craft gives the children the opportunity to retell the story, and bring home the words to "They Marched Around the City" to sing at home with their parents. You will need: this print out construction paper yarn drinking straws brown paint sponges scissors hole punch glue tape crayons To prepare, print and cut the print out. Cut the solid lines around the wall. Fold the wall along the dotted lines. Cut out the character graphics and the rhyme, on the dotted lines. Punch two holes on opposite ends of the construction paper. Cut drinking straws to about 3" in length, and cut yarn to approximately 24" lengths. Thread a strand of yarn through the cut straw, and then through the holes of the paper. Tie it securely in the back. Cut sponges into rectangular, brick shapes. In class, provide small rectangular sponges and brown paint for the children to stamp brown bricks onto the wall. Allow the walls to dry for a few minutes while you continue working on the craft. Provide crayons for them to color Joshua and the Israelite's. Tape the characters to the straw. Glue the lyrics to the rhyme onto the construction paper. When the walls are mostly dry, tape the bottom tabs to construction paper as shown below. Show children how to manipulate the people to march, and make the walls to fall, as you sing the rhyme.

Typically, Ezekiel Bread is made using sprouted beans. However, this recipe uses ground beans. The main reason for this unique twist is that it adds simplicity and vastly shortens the process without sacrificing flavor. It can take up to 5 days to sprout beans. However, grinding whole beans will take less than an hour.Ezekiel Bread contains different ingredients and the most important and most common are the grains and beans. Spelt flour is also commonly used in making Ezekiel bread.Tip: It makes great French Toast. This recipe was written by Narandradath Jaikaran, a bakery consultant with over 20 years of experience and presented by Evelina Melnikova, a Pastry Chef with over 8 years of experience.

My name is Amanda and I have a confession, I've never read Charlotte's Web. Can it be that an elementary school teacher, not to mention the daughter of two teachers, a lover of animals, and the wife of a former farmer, hasn't read this American classic? Yes, it is true. However, in honor of Charlotte's 60th birthday this month, I am reading the book to my class and loving it! Most of my students have read it some years ago so they are amusing me along the way. Laughing when I laugh, saying "awww" when I say "awww", tearing up when I tear up. You know what all good audiences do. Like every good teacher I don't just let them enjoy a wonderful story, I make them learn something new as we go. Since Charlotte, Wilbur and the barnyard crew are typically introduced to children in second or third grade, I decided to focus on the rich vocabulary E.B. White uses throughout the book. We also have been learning about animal adaptations in science, so the life of an arachnid lent us great study material. Through our reading we learned that Charlotte is an orb weaver spider as opposed to a sheet web spider. In addition to a spider's adaptations, we discussed their habitat, diet, and life cycle. Then we got to painting. I simply gave each student a black sheet of construction paper, a Q-tip, and some white paint. They designed an orb web, defined vocabulary words from the book, and there you have it a web of words that would make Charlotte proud! To finish off the activity we made spider cookies from Oreos, chocolate frosting, black licorice, and Mini M & Ms. My little biologists were quick to point out that most spiders have six or eight eyes. They are so technical aren't they!! I think they were just trying to get more M & Ms out of me! Adding new words to our vocabulary, and extending our life science knowledge gives this book even more reason to be one of my "new" all time favorites!
