I wanted to make some shamrocks to put on my St.Patrick's Day Mantel. I gathered up some green paper and ink and went to it. Here is how I made them: 1. Cut out three hearts per shamrock. You could do a fourth petal, but I thought they looked better with three. Three is a decorating rule you know. 2. Find a stamp you love and pick a green ink you love. I chose a flourish stamp. Stamp all three hearts. Fold in half. Ink crease and ink edges of heart. 3. Cut out a piece of green paper into a stem shape. Ink edges. Cut out or punch a circle. Place glue on the circle, place top of stem in the middle of the circle. Join the tips of the hearts together. Here is a close up of what I mean "tips of the hearts" together. Wipe off glue that seeped through. Cut off circle bits that show. 4. Punch a hole in the middle of where the hearts join. I don't have the "proper" tool to do that so I use a push pin with an eraser behind. Insert desired brad. And there you have it! I was going to make a banner BUT changed my mind. I am just placing the shamrocks I made here and there on my mantel. Thanks for looking! Linked up here....

St. Patrick's Day is almost here and I love to give the kids in class a fun little treat. Last year they received fun little leprechauns, and I was almost going to make them again. Then another Demonstrator friend of mine, Linda Budzik, make a cute little pop-corn treat and I decided to make that instead. The Tag reads "Just Popping by with a St. Patrick's Day Hi" and inside I added a packet of Pop-Rocks for the kids. n Linda's version held popcorn. Linda says that she got the idea from her sister, Laure Sander, who made something similar for Christmas. How Brilliant! You can substitute any Holiday on the Tag. To make my version you start with a 6 x 6 inch piece of paper, scored at 1 1/4 and 4. Fold along the score lines and add adhesive to the bottom and along the flap to keep it closed. Use a hole punch to punch a hole at the top. Edited to add a video tutorial of this type of treat holder... Thread your ribbon through the holes, going straight across. I keep the ribbon on the spool while I do this because in your next step you are going to push the Pop-Rocks down into the pouch, pulling the ribbon down with them, so that the ribbon is looped underneath the treat. Here the Pop-Rocks pack is going into the pouch. You can alsi see in this picture that I folded the pop-rocks pack in a bit. I wanted to get the most of my 12 x 12 paper. In order to get 4 out of each sheet, I needed to fold them just a tiny bit. Now, when the recipient pulls the ribbon up, the treat will pop up too! P.S. that ribbon is on the Clearance Rack right now!! Love the Clearance Rack, so full of goodies! I made the shamrock with pansy punch! See in the photo where I cut to make it a shamrock? Love it. Pansy punch # 130698 $15.95 I created my labels in My Digital Studio. Seriously, I use that program just about every day! I looked for a St. Patrick's Day stamp and I found one, but it has an image in the middle. Here is what it looked like. Here were the two I liked. But, I didn't want the shamrock image because I wanted to use my punched shamrocks, so I got rid of the centers by adding a circle punch to the centers of each image, filled with white. Here is what they looked like with the centers filled in. I then resized them to fit the 2 1/2 inch circle punch. I filled a whole page with my stamp image and printed it out. I also printed out a page of my " Just popping by with a St. Patrick's Day Hi!" tags. I added a large Rhinestone to a few select treats. I know most kids will just tear this apart in seconds :) Here is the project that Linda made, which gave me this idea! For the last few years, one of our traditions has been to make these ribbon shamrocks. They are so simple and cheap to make! My girls love them for the hair.... I think they're fun for a mantle. They'd look cute on a wreath, a headband, or just hanging by themselves. Since emerald is the color of the year (read about it HERE), these shamrocks will not only help you avoid getting pinched, but you'll be sporting the "in" color :). I did not invent these, obviously! I don't even remember where I learned how to make them, but this is my version. To find out how to make your own, click on "read more" below... but first, ok, now you can click to read more.... (under the "Pin It" button) Supplies: Green ribbon (grosgrain works best) Glue gun & glue sticks First: cut 6 equal pieces of ribbon, and one a little shorter for the stem. (For mantle shamrocks, cut 4 1/4"; for hair shamrocks, cut 2 1/2" or 3") Then seal the ends with heat so they don't fray. Either light a candle and sear the ends, or use a lighter. Then.... Make sure to hot glue it now!!!! That's it!! For the banner on the mantle, I cut Popsicle sticks in half then glued a piece of ribbon to them. I glued the shamrock on top of that. I'm sharing Yo-Yo Clover Ornaments I made for my feather tree, they started out as yo-yo's and I shaped them into shamrocks. Updated-I've been asked how to make them: I started with a round yo-yo and just ran string up through the center, looped it around the outer edge and back into the center, then pulled it a little snug. As much as I LOVE St. Patrick's Day I sure don't have much to show for it. I finished up a couple more things to add to my collection! This picture was a by-product of my Rainbow Clovers. It was also inspired (actually inspired and not just copied this time!) from Childmade. I have to show you their version because it is so much cuter! But hearts are sooooo 2 weeks ago.. so I went with the 'rocks. :) I dove into the waters of a new crafty lake this weekend... wood crafting! I've had my eye on the Block Heads over at Craft Goodies for a couple months now. The March leprechaun and I fell in love at first sight! I just love how he turned out! You can find the tutorial at Craft Goodies or (if you're like me) head over to Etsy and buy the kit! I gotta tell ya, I have zero painting technique.. like.. zero. So obviously these guys are fool proof! She sends directions and I referred to her website for pictures. Super cute! I even finished his replacement at the same time. I will include one tip for anyone that might be interested in this guy (since I always tend to screw something up I might as well tell ya). I glued my hat a bit too low.. which made my eyes too low.. which made the nose about falling off the face and the whiskers all bunched up on the table. I ended up sanding and repainting the eyes higher, and giving him a trim to make it work. Completely my fault.. apparently referring to the directions is a good thing (hmm.. I tend to say that a lot). I'll now move down the craft food chain to a mommy & me craft. RyGuy is totally psyched about toilet roll crafts since the Love Bug so when I found this I knew it was a must: No you are not allowed to guess how much I did vs. my kiddo (I already disclaimed I suck at painting). I guess he's ok cute. You should probably just check out the directions at Family Fun if you have any interest. I think he will be a lure for our leprechaun trap.. because he is so realistic obviously! Last up is the kiddo craft. I found another spectacular round up at My Delicious Ambiguity and we did this last night: Fruit Loop Rainbow!! Just draw and glue! I just love me a simple evening craft!

HAPPY SAINT PATRICK'S DAY! This post is an assortment of old and new Saint Patrick's Day items. I was given this flag by a young guy in Ireland as a souvenir of my visit to Ireland many years ago. The family that I stayed with was quite poor but I was welcomed into their home. The Irish are a wonderfully friendly people. Visit Ireland sometime. These six die-cuts were made in Germany and are from around the 1920's. A chenille shamrock Saint Patrick's Day pin with its backing card. It is about 3 1/2" x 4" and was made in Japan. This child's card stands about 7 1/2" high, AND IT'S FLOCKED, can there be anything better? The price for this packet of Dennison St. Patrick's Day seals was only 19 cents. These two home made party place-cards were made using the Dennison seals illustrated above. A vintage souvenir plaque from Ireland. It is paper bonded onto thin plywood and cut out. This leprechaun is a Dennison party decoration. There are 6 leprechaun face paper plates in this unopened cellophane wrapped set. This St. Patrick's Day gift is a poem printed and bound in book form. There are five pages to the poem. The poem is only printed on the right hand page. The left side is left blank. On the inside it is inscribed – Copyright 1913 P.F. Volland and Co. Chicago, U.S.A. (ALL RIGHTS RESERVED) All Irish chocolates come in a box exactly like this! The hat is cut out and applied to a rectangular box underneath. This celluloid covered metal pin back pin would be worn so that all can see you are Irish (no matter where you were born!). I have worn this vintage tie in public on Saint Patrick's Day! I like it better than most of the "Irish" ties that I have seen. I do have a skinny green 1960's tie with two tiny shamrocks very tastefully placed on the tie. I guess I'm not much for good taste. This is a souvenir hankie from the early part of the 20th century. It came from someone in my family tree. I have no idea if it was from my dad's or mum's side but I have always liked the colours used in the printing. It appears to have been printed with a process called chromolithography I'm not certain though. If anyone knows if they did this printing process on fabric let me know.
