Over the past few years schools have shifted from the ' screen and evaluate ' model of service to RtI (Response to Intervention)/MTSS ( Multi-Teired System of Support ). This new mind set of service means a more thorough look at the students and their abilities prior to evaluation, but also more time for the SLP. Even though it is more work ( scheduling, planning, completing sessions, logging data, etc ) it has helped me to ensure that the students on our caseloads are the students who truly need to be. ASHA supports SLPs being involved in the RtI/MTSS approach.
This activity enables student to practice answering Who, What, Where, Why, and When questions with eight answer choices presented with pictures. This is helpful to students with autism, auditory processing concerns, attention deficits or language delays. This packet contains 10 pages of activities on full pages: Who (2 pages) What (2 pages) Where (2 pages) Why (2 pages) When (2 pages)

Wow! It's been a crazy 2 weeks! My students love the Categories and Vocalic /r/ Bingo so I decided to create a Wh- Questions Bingo. I am constantly looking for materials with wh- questions. The students had so much fun playing. The Wh- Questions Bingo allowed me to acquire a lot of data too! This download includes 4 game boards and 3 pages of bingo chips. Each bingo board has twenty-four wh- questions. Step 1: Print and laminate Bingo Cards and Bingo Chips. Step 2: Print an extra bingo card. Laminate and cut out each wh- question from this card. Step 3: Put the cut out wh- questions in a ziplock bag. Step 3: Cut out each Bingo Chips. Step 4: Start by giving each student a Bingo Card and 10 Bingo Chips. Step 5: Pull the first wh- question out of the ziplock bag Step 6: Have each student give you 1 answer. Step 7: The 1st student to get 5 in a row WINS! Wh- Questions Bingo is available on my TPT page! Click Here! I would love to hear what you think! What other Bingo boards would you like me to create....more arctic?!? Hope you have fun playing BINGO with your kiddies! : )
Today as I picked up my second grader for my first group of the day, he said to me, "My mind is asleep. And my muscles." I'd been wanting to use the game "Twister" in therapy for a while - my mom even got it for me for Christmas because she knew I'd put a
I have a few kids who need to work on possessive nouns, pronouns and have/has. So many of my materials don't have pictures that go with the sentence, which can be confusing for some of my students. When I saw this clip art, I had to make a possessives unit with pictures that correspond to each sentence. Check it out on TPT! This unit has a total of 124 cards and can easily be used with any activity or game in your therapy room! The possessive noun / pronoun cards have fill in the blanks that can used for either one depending on your therapy targets. This works for every sentence in this section, since we all spend so much of our valuable time cutting and laminating materials, I wanted these cards to do double duty. There are 12 cards each of girls and boys to provide equal practice when you are working on pronouns. Their and theirs have separate cards, with 12 each. Theirs is pictured above. Their uses the same pictures with different sentences. For the its cards, you will have have your students add "The" when working on possessive nouns so the sentences make sense with both words. Has and Have have 32 cards for each. Most cards working on people, other with animals and objects pictures. Boys and girls are equally represented, with the girls cards pictured below. Example of have cards: If you have kids working on possessives make sure you check out this activity in my TPT store! Remember to like me on Facebook, I'm doing a flash freebie when I get to 100 likes!

So many kiddos have WH question goals… in some form or another. The ability to answer WH questions is important, in all settings: school, home, in conversation, etc… I knew this, but I always wondered how to teach WH questions without feeling like I was testing the kiddo. I didn’t want to repeat the question […]
Today is another Tangled Tuesday! Yay! I was on the receiving end of one of the best verb activities I have seen produced to date! This activity is called Verb Circus Resource by Ms. Jocelyn! Just take a look at this activity and you will see it is a must have item for assessing verbs- regular and irregular- in your speech classroom! Let's take a peek! Here is the fun title page to the activity! It includes the contents of the activity along with suggestion directions for assessment and practice. There are so many words included in this activity that I felt it was VERY comprehensive for my students to work on these verb tenses. These are the the verb cards with the different tenses and the cute circus clipart was a hit with my students! There is something everyone loves about the circus! Then we have the irregular verb version of the activity! Then there is a helping verb circus also! There is a cute dice that you can utilize for the activity as well! The next item was awesome in my speech room! It is a build a sentence activity This portion of the activity was an awesome visual for my students who have difficulty with grammar and syntax. The next two pictures are 1/2 of the two assessment pages available in the activity. You have the opportunity to track each of your student's responses, then tally them at the bottom! Last, but not least, there is a subjective pronoun pronoun visual. SO I used this activity in many ways. I used it as an assessment (pre and post) for one of my students for a week. Then I used it as a group activity. I stated a verb in a specific tense and my students were required to tell me which tense it was that I used the verb in. I played it in the opposite way too. I had the child roll the dice and a verb tense was presented. The child then chose a verb card and had to conjugate the verb on the card to the verb tense that was on the die. I used the build a sentence worksheet with this activity and also with some sentence builder cards that I already had from Super Duper Inc. There are sooo many cards for regular tense verbs and irregular tense verbs that you would have enough to last more than one session! That is always important to me in looking at materials to buy on TPT! You can check out Jocelyn's blog to see a review of my activity here Follow her on Facebook here Grab this activity on Teachers Pay Teachers here for 5 dollars (TOTALLY WORTH IT) Thanks for reading Tangled Tuesday! This game board was a sample from my full Let's Learn About Pronouns Language Unit. It is currently being revised to include gender inclusive language. This download includes the small version of my game board (there is a full file folder size included in the full unit). To play: Use a die and any kind of small toy or object as a game piece. The student will roll the die and move their game piece that many spaces. The student will say a sentence about the picture on the space. I use the prompt “Who has it?” and the target would be to use the pronoun (she, he, it (for the non persons), or they) and the object that is in the space. For example: “She has a balloon.” There are also “roll again,” “move ahead,” and “go back” spaces for the students to follow (these make the game exciting and last longer!). Please note: Please respect and acknowledge gender inclusive pronouns while using this unit. Students may use and identify the images differently than you and that is ok! I use this for grammar purposes (I have many students who say “him did it” etc…, this unit is not to teach identity pronouns. There is very little prep with this game board! Print, laminate, and use! (Page 3 of the download is the game board!) Have fun with it!

By Ruth Morgan, M.S. CCC-SLP and Ashley Robinson, M.S. CCC-SLP About a month ago, an esteemed colleague of mine, Ashley Robinson, and I published a model for AAC device implementation. We stated that the high tech device often recommended for a student was only the tip of the iceberg in terms of developing successful communication in a natural environment. Many factors need to be in place. Since that time, many of you have viewed this post. As with many blogs, ideas are presented but here there needed to be a more tangible document to accompany these stellar thoughts, so Ashley and I have developed a handy form to go with this iceberg model. It is basically a set of yes/no questions, with space for a short action plan to go with each 'no' answer. Helpful links are embedded in the form itself. Questions follow the same categories as those presented in the iceberg model. We have envisioned that the child's IEP team (with an AT professional) would meet and discuss these points, one by one, and problem-solve, assigning team members for different actions. The actual form is three pages. You can download it free at the link below. screenshot--one of three pages The key is teamwork. No one person can successfully implement AAC whether that person is a parent, an SLP, or teacher. This form will help to guide a team to think about different parameters in AAC implementation and use. Please let us know if we need to add or edit questions. I'm sure we will be revising as time goes on with your help. Click HERE to download the form in pdf. Most of the focus sheets include a useful visual to help your students understand each skill, however this resource is most useful for readers. Age-appropriate graphics are used - no "baby" clip art!
