Like a precious gem strung on a chain of rock hang from high cliffs that tower over the Mediterranean Sea. Monterosso is one of the five villages in Cinque Terre. The Cinque Terre have come to be among the most popular areas of Italy among tourists. The coastline, the five villages, and the surrounding hillsides are all encapsulated in a national park by the same name. The Cinque Terre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's most picturesque, fun and quaint at the same time, very accessible, and terrific for swimming. Being on the water makes the cliffs more dramatic, the colors more intense, and the water a deeper shade of blue. It’s a very different way to see the five towns. Of the five towns, the largest beaches are found at Monterosso. The beach is the only extensive sand beach in the Cinque Terre. Monterosso is a small town that in the summer months is overrun by tourists. But after sunset most tourists have already gone by train. This small Fegine beach with the rocky outcropping sure looks inviting after sunset.
