It's been almost a month since my last post, but I have a very good reason. I've been planning the most amazing birthday party ever for my little girl! She turned 2 yesterday and it was a perfect day. Most of the inspiration for the party came from Pinterest, but a lot of the ideas came directly from The Mom Creative. First stop, invitations from Lani's Party Designs. Welcome to Madalynne's Street! Daddy made the most amazing Madalynne Street sign. It even lights up. We used this great tutorial from My Simple Obsession. He also cut the letter 'M' and the number '2' for the front door, after all the party is brought to you by the letter 'M' and the number '2'. Look her adorable Elmo dress, created by Nana! I made Sesame street hats for each of the kids. Elmo, Big Bird, Cookie Monster, and Oscar the Grouch, a wonderful Pinterest idea. They all loved them. I used my cricut and the Sesame Street Font Cartridge to cut the faces out of fun foam. There is a great tutorial on how to cut craft foam with your Cricut from Cathie Rigby. Maddie loved Elmo so much that she took a bite out of him. You can see her little teeth marks on the lower left. There were lots of fun things for the kiddos to do. There was a Super Grover Super Launch, made by Daddy, another Pinterest idea. Big Bird's Seed Search with lots of fabulous little toys, again Daddy cut out Big Bird and Mommy painted. Cookie Monster Bean Bag Toss, also created by Daddy; and the most adorable little bean bags made by Nana! Oscar's Tattoo Parlor, created with Mommy's cricut cartridge Sesame Street Seasons. Play Table - including a puzzle station and a Sesame neighborhood complete with Abby Cabby's Flying Fairy School Decorations included lots of Sesame Street bean bag characters, balloons, more 'M' and '2's, lots of pinwheels created from old used Sesame Street books, and a "Maddie" banner created using my Cricut. There were even towels and soap dispensers in the bathrooms and kitchen with the Sesame theme. There were even Big Bird and Elmo hand towels and soaps in the bathroom and kitchen to follow the Sesame Street theme. We also set up a Sesame Street photo backdrop. I wanted to set up our professional lights to help with the glare, but Juan thought that was over the top. Finally, no party is complete without food. Again, I used ideas for the Sesame faces from Pinterest, with help from Nana. There was Elmo, Ernie, Bert, Oscar, Elmo, Cookie Monster, and another Oscar. Abuelita made strawberry lemonade, and of course the cake was Elmo (decorated by Auntie Miri). There was also another cricut banner, "Happy Birthday". More fun food: Snuffles Truffles Dorothy's Goldfish Cookie Monster's Monster Cookies Oscar's Trash Cans with Pet Worm Slimy And Even the Count's Chocolate Milk Maddie was a little overwhelmed when it came time for the Birthday girl's song; and although she did blow out her candle, she did not want her cake or cupcake. All she wanted was fruit! What a better way to thank our guests for coming then to provide an amazing favor for the kiddos to take home? The pails were found on clearance at Michaels and I used the Cricut again to create the faces. There was a Sesame Street coloring book with Elmo crayons, a Sesame Street book, stickers, an Elmo matching game, and fruit snacks. I think my little girl had the most Amazing 2nd Birthday Ever! I love you Maddie!

I had a great time planning and hosting Owen's jungle theme first birthday! Seriously, I love to do this party stuff... especially the dessert table!!! I made this bunting banner with scrapbook paper and then displayed in on a large picture that I wrapped with a neutral gift wrap. Gahhh, I couldn't wait any longer to show you this super cute snake! I just sliced sub sandwhiches into small appetizer size pieces and laid out the pices with a litte curve to them on the food table to look like a snake. I used toothpics to put on the olive eyes and cut a red pepper to look like a tongue. So easy and so cute! Here's an over-view of the food. Main table is snacks and drinks and the buffet to the left is desserts I hung some streemers from the ceiling and cut a few jungle leaves from scrapbook paper to jungle the place up a bit :) A closer look at the food table. Mostly veggies and fruit so guests were able to justify splurges at the dessert table - haha! I attached zebra scrapbook stickers to one of my punch jars and simply poured in green hawaiin punch and pepple ice (I buy pebble ice at Sonics) for this fun colored "jungle juice" For the water bottles I removed the labels and then wrapped the bottle in zebra packing tape. This was also really simple to do and I love the impact it makes! Finally a shot of the desserts!!! The cake pops were pretty darn cute! At least it was pretty easy to tell what they were supposed to be :) tigers lions and monkeys! I have the bakerella cake pop book and used that for my directions with just a few tweeks. Of course you can't have a party without cupcakes (at least not in this household!) The cupcakes were vanilla or chocolate with a marshmallow creme filling and green-vanilla buttercream - YUM! The cupcake toppers were actually dollar store stickers that I stuck on scrapbooking paper and cut around. I hot glued the cut outs to toothpics to finish them up. Animal crackers were a must for this jungle party! THE CAKE: This adorable monkey cake is a very yummy banana cake with chocolate buttercream. I found the directions for decorating it here and just made a few changes... for instance I made mine a double layer... cause doesn't that sound soooo much better than just one layer of delicious banana cakes?? I found the banana cake recipe here and I would highly recommend trying it out for yourself! Owen also had a little chocolate smash cake to enjoy. He started out nice and slow but then mommy got involved and things went crazy! must eat more cake A very happy sugar-high birthday boy: love him! Just can't believe how fast a year has gone by, I remember when this little dude was born as if it were just a few weeks ago... sniff sniff. Yay for happy memories!

I thought these were too cute to pass up. I saw these on Friday and knew I had to make them! I see an ice cream party in our future and these will be great decorations. The original tutorial is from icing designs online. I will post the link at the end of the post. But maybe I can save you some time and money with a few tips I learned from making these. Originally it called for using 2 1/2 inch styrofoam balls. You can NOT use regular green or white styrofoam balls. They are too lumpy and bumpy and once you try and cover them with your fabric it looks awful. You need to use Smooth Foam balls. I was only able to locate 3-inch balls from Michael's. But they worked out just fine. Since I used larger styrofoam balls I had to make my fabric circle bigger, so I cut a 9-inch circle paper template to use for cutting out my fabric circles. I also made my own cone template since I had the larger ball size. Since fabric is pricey I only bought 1 yard of each color. Once I cut my fabric into 36" long x 1 1/2 inch strips, I cut one of the strips in half and sewed it together with a regular length to make a longer piece of fabric to ruffle. You won't be able to see the seam once you start to ruffle your fabric strip. Before making the ruffles ensure you use pinking shears and cut down both sides of the strips. I thought I might be able to just baste stitch down the length of fabric and pull on the threads in order to get the ruffles. This made the pleats but it was way to uniform looking. So use your sewing machine to get organic looking ruffles. My finished ruffle length was about 21 inches. To assemble: Cover styrofoam ball with one piece of 9 inch fabric. Gather fabric around ball and apply hot glue towards bottom of ball to secure fabric to ball. Try to have tight gathers and pull the fabric smooth as much as you can. Work little sections at a time. Remember it will sit inside a cone so does not have to be perfect at bottom. Cut out your ice cream cone pattern. I made my own cone pattern since I was using larger balls. I also used textured cardstock which made them very sturdy. I used double sided tape to gather cone sides together and secure. Place hot glue around inner opening of cone and place your fabric covered ball in opening. I applied a little bit of pressure to ensure it adhered. Next I took one of my ruffles lengths and hot glued it around the top of cone and lower part of fabric. You can twist it as you wrap it around the cone if you like. In order to hang up I used a very small stick pin and ribbon pushed into top center of cone. Original tutorial and instructions can be found here: Icing Designs Online. I admit, this party was a quick turnaround. Between planning my son’s birthday party, hosting a bridal shower, a family wedding and a trip to Disney World, the month leading up to it was total chaos. I kept hearing, “Don’t stress. She’s only two! She won’t remember.” But the mom guilt was strong. My sweet baby girl only turns two once, and I wanted to make her party as special as all the rest. Thank God for Amazon and Common Bond Bakery! I was able to pull it off in less than a couple weeks! The
