It's not a secret that I love books. I'm currently (very slowly, due to revision) reading Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut on my Dad's e-reader as a recommendation from him and I am very much enjoying it when I do get a chance to give it a read but I figured as exam season is incredibly depressing and dreary at times I should buy a few other books to look forward to reading over summer. None of the books I have bought were random purchases either, I sort of wanted to be a bit spontaneous with this but I definitely was not at all. The book that sparked the purchase was 'The Smel of Other People's Houses' by Bonnie-Sue Hitchcock. I heard a little interview with her on Woman's hour on BBCR4 a couple of weeks ago and I really liked the idea of the book and the title very much drew me in. I wish I had had time to read this already and tell you more about it but I can tell you that I am very much looking forward to reading it. Along with ordering the first book I decided I might as well get a couple of feminist type reads I'd heard a little bit about because feminism is an important concept to me and I don't see why I shouldn't have a bit of reading on it. The first I picked was 'we should all be feminists' by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie which I spotted on the babe that is @lucyknell's instagram and I really liked the cover. It is the tiniest book I have ever owned, it is definitely pocket sized and could be read front to back on the shortest of bus journeys. I imagine it is going to pretty much be what it says on the tin, my flatmate had a quick flick through and basically confirmed this but I look forward to hearing a perspective that isn't necessarily my own on the ideal that we should all be feminists and will probably enjoy this straight after my exams with a big cup of coffee. The second non fiction, feminist inspired purchase I made was 'Not That Kind of Girl' by Lena Dunham which everyone and their dog has read probably twice before I even purchased it so I doubt I need to say much. I don't know much about Lena but I know she was the person to introduce feminism to Taylor Swift and I'm glad she did. I know lot's of people like to put people into categories of what kind of feminist other people are and for this reason some seem not to be so keen on this book but quite frankly I think it's derogatory and not feminist enough to be putting people into these boxes, and its never a bad thing to learn about other people's views and perspectives and the way they live. And last but by no means least my most recent purchase was a book of poetry by Madisen Kuhn, called 'eighteen years'. This book is beautiful. Like stunning and the cover is matte and bends quite easily and I want to keep this book forever and I want it to end up looking loved and used because I already do love it a lot. I've wanted this book for a long while and was sort of a bit sad that the book purchases I already had made were not going to started until my exams were done and I thought that was the perfect reason for poetry, because I don't have to read it all at once. So I've been opening it every now and then and there isn't a single word I have read yet and haven't loved. Even if you're not that fond of poetry or don't think you are, I feel like you can't help but fall in love with the incredibly relatable yet oh so eloquent thoughts of this teenage, nearly adult girl. Relationships are very much about give and take. At their best, they are a back-and-forth flow of love and affection. Things go smoothly when we’re able to attune to another person’s wants and needs, and they’re able to attune to ours. Yet, as most of us know, this sweet and simple-sounding interaction is often fraught... Read more »

I am not 50years old but I ran a political campaign to unseat an incumbent in order to occupy the Oke-Ogun Constituency seat in Kwara State House of Assembly. You don't get to see 30-year-old people contesting for political office in Nigeria. I have done it, though unsuccessful and here is my story. Stepping Out gives an account of some of the experiences of a young professional that decided to walk an uncharted path of partisan politics. It also gives recommendations on some of the major reforms that Nigerian political parties need to go through to ensure inclusiveness of the younger population in the political process. And lastly, there is a part that tells specifically on what is required of you if ever decide to run for any political office at ay level whatsoever. If you ever want to get involved in politics - contesting for a political office or supporting candidates for office - this is a book you must read!
Most leaders would like to change their corporate culture, but they don’t know how. In this post, I outline six steps.
Aodai Typeface (Aodai - pronounced /ˈaʊ ˈdaɪ/ or /ou-dahy/, Vietnamese: Áo dài, the traditional and national dress usually worn by Vietnamese women) is a typeface created by Manh Nguyen, a designer based in Hanoi, Vietnam. In an effort of bringing back the oldstyle vibes of hand-painting retro panels, banners and covers books published by local publisher in the late 20th century, Nguyen decided to pay homage to the charming yet discreet oriental beauty of Viet women wearing the ao dai; the font’s characteristics have to be something not quite expressively sleazy but still embraces discreet and prudent sexiness of an Indochina woman. Nguyen chose to create a geometric, modern, unicase, display sans-serif with high contrast mimicking the fashionable Didone typestyle, with elegant ratios on delicate backbone system of the anatomy, alongside with one-of-a-kind punctuation and mixed diacritical mark system (two distinct diacritical mark systems for uppercase and lowercase glyphs), noted with some twisted differences between two cases of some letters (i.e uppercase and lowercase O, C, Q, G etc.). To conserve and accentuate the imperfection of hand painting, the highly condensed kerning is added while the font is created and tested, and kerning between some combos of glyphs, i.e VAV, is also edited in the polishing process. Aodai Typeface is now on Creative Market with support to several languages (of course, including Vietnamese). If you found this project interesting, an Appreciation with the blue like button is highly recommended and don’t forget to follow the link at the end of this showcase to buy this feminine typeface to encourage my effort to bring made-in-Vietnam design out to the world. Cheers, Manh Nguyen

It was when I worked my child cardigan: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/scrap-book-cardigan that I realized that this design would be awesome in an adult version. So, here it is! I followed “the scrap-book idea” and added more patterns. They all worked so beautifully together! It’s the perfect knit when you want to try out several stitch-patterns (and don’t want those endless rows of stockinette sts). Design I didn’t want to interfere with the rhythm of the beautiful patterns too much and decided for a classic cardigan with no shaping and raglan-shaping for great fit. The lower body is rather short (but not cropped). The length could easily be changed by adding or subtracting pattern repeats. All the pattern sections, apart from the petal border, might change place - just play around for your personal cardigan (or follow the patterns in the order as given). The short sleeves are started from the petal border and continued in stockinette sts. The upper body is shaped by raglan-decreases. The crew-neck is classic and flattering. Construction The cardigan is worked bottom-up and seamlessly. The lower body is worked bottom-up and back and forth to underarms. The sleeves are worked bottom-up and in-the-round to underarms. Sleeves and body are joined and upper body is worked in one piece with regular raglan-decreases. Stitches are picked up to work the neckline and the button-band/buttonhole-band. Sizes Finished bust circumference, when buttoned: 85/88/91/94/98/101/104/108/111/114/118/121cm = 33.5/34.5/36/37/38.5/40/41/42.5/43.5/45/46.25/48” Materials Yarn: I recommend that you use a sport weight yarn with great stitch-definition. I used the sport weight, Pashmina from Madeline tosh to work the cardigan. This yarn comes in skeins of 329 meters/360 yards. You will need approximately 900/950/1000/1050/1100/1150/1200/1250/1300/1350/1400/1450 yards to work the cardigan. Yardage needed might vary from yarn to yarn and from one knitter to another. Needles: Choose needle size to obtain gauge. I used needle size 3.5mm/US4, this is a suggestion only. For the lower and upper body I recommend a long circular needle. For the sleeves you might use a set of 5 dpns or a circular needle (if working the magic loop). For the neckline and button-bands you can use a circular, or straight needles. Notions: 4 removable stitch-markers, separate holders (if grafting the underarms), buttons 12mm/0.5” across. Gauge 24 sts and 30-32 rows in stockinette (and all patterns, except for the petal border) = 10 x 10cm / 4 x 4” The pattern The pattern is easy and comprehensible to follow. All measurements are in cm’s as well as in inches. All necessary stitch-counts are given. There is a schematic. Please note that the pattern sections are written, not charted. All pattern sections are written out row-by-row. No difficult sts. The unusual stitches are clearly explained. Knitting skills: intermediate
