A true 70s time capsule! This Afra & Tobia Scarpa 'Soriana' is one of a kind due to the fact that it is a 1970s production in pristine condition. It has been mostly covered since the day of the purchase making this piece a very rare find. Suffice to say, we still have the original plastic cover, with which it came upon sale, and a custom-made white cotton cover (quite handsome in its own right) which the original owner kept on at all times with a few exceptions. Both covers are included with the sale. Additionally, as a testament to its originality and the fact that the sofa was originally purchased in Italy, it has the Cassina sticker. As a further testament to its age, the color and material combination are quintessential representatives of the 70s vibe- a burnt orange suede. This is one lady that does not need a face -lift! Soft and low the Soriana invites you to sink into its seat - the padding is made of polyurethane foam and Dacron fiberfill, upholstered in suede leather and enveloped by a clamp made of chromed steel. Two parts compose the external cage while two steel plates link them with the basis. Additionally covered buttons on the sides of the backrest link the coating with the external support elements while more buttons placed on the front of the backrest tighten the upholstery to improve the shape - possible since a wire links them with two plastic supports embedded in the back of the clamp. Designed in 1969 after Afra and Tobia Scarpa took advantage of new polyurethane foam forming techniques and creating an armchair that, for the first time, needed no internal support rather taking its shape from the grip of the metal structure that embraces it. In 1970 Soriana was awarded the Compasso d’Oro as a masterpiece of complexity achieved through simple tools.

Handcrafted Black Walnut Dining Tables ***THIS PIECE IS NOT FOR SALE*** It is an example of some pieces we've made. The wood, dimensions and price would vary of course. The price reflected is a piece about 72" long and varied in width between about 32-36" and the listing price is reflective of something that size with a range of $3500-$4500. As you get larger the price can jump accordingly. A typical 8' or so table in the 36" plus range will be more like $5-6k. Price is also a reflection of how resourceful we can be with a slab. A typical slab is cut at about 8-9' in most cases and cost can be a reflection of that. If someone wants a 72" table that only leaves a small unusable chunk of wood the price would reflect the cost of the whole slab. Sometimes we get lucky and find a slab nearer the 72" dimension but it is rare. Sorry for so much explanation but the caveat of working with natural materials is that pricing is not always very linear because we can't just drop down to the local lumber yard and pick this kind of stuff up. If I have completely lost you then send us a message or give me a call and we can chat! Blake (360)941-8380 Each piece of Black Walnut we use in our projects goes through an intense process of transformation to become a table. From the salvage of the tree to the last coat of varnish, we take every precaution to assure its long life as an heirloom quality piece of furniture. We have Black Walnut in a variety of different lengths and widths that we can create into your custom table. Our prices range depending on the size but we'll usually try to work with every budget so let us know what we can do. Due to the size of these tables we often like to use White Glove freight service, which transport, deliver, assemble and remove the crate materials. We take great pride in our product and our ability of getting it to you safely. If you have any reservations please take time to read our feedback here: https://www.etsy.com/people/ElpisWorks/feedback?ref=owner_feedback_leftnav Thanks for visiting our shop! We hope you consider adopting one of our lovely pieces! (WA State add sales tax) Thanks for visiting our shop. -Blake 360-941-8380 elpisandwood.com
A well designed living room should have at least one focal point and that focal point should NOT be your television. Focal points are items in a room that are unusual, oversized, interesting, eye catching, and/or unique. They are something that you would not find in every other home in your neighborhood. Here are a few ideas for focal points for a living room. ArtworkAn oversized bold piece of artwork can be a great focal point for a living room. The artwork should grab the attention of people entering the room. You can use one large piece of art or multiple pieces of art used together as one piece. A popular place for a large piece of artwork is hung over a living room sofa or over the living room fireplace. Art with bold colors can not only be the room's focal point, but also set the room's color scheme. A grand ornate mirror or a boldly colored mirror can also be a living room focal point. Some people like to use a gallery wall to display smaller pieces of art. A gallery wall can be a living room focal point, as long as the art pieces are clustered together and are visually one art installation instead of spread throughout the room. FurnitureA unique piece of furniture can be a focal point. You can use an ornate antique armoire, an artistic modern chair, a grand piano, or a bold painted chest as a focal point. Some furniture is sculptural and almost like a piece of art. BookcaseA properly decorated bookcase can be a living room focal point. Don't make your bookcase look like a library or book store with all books arranged vertically on the shelves. Arrange some books vertically, some horizontally, and some can even go at a diagonal. Decorate your bookcase not only with books, but with a few other items of interest. You can decorate your bookcase with art, photo frames, baskets for texture, artifacts from your travels, items from nature, or whatever appeals to you. Don't clutter your bookshelves with a lot of little items, but decorate them with a few larger items that are unique and/or sentimental instead. FireplaceA fireplace is a very popular focal point in a living room. In order to make it a beautiful focal point, make sure that it is unique and different and not just a boring builder grade fireplace. You can paint your fireplace wall an accent color to highlight it. You can also replace the cheap tile around your fireplace with something more custom. For an even more grand fireplace, you can tile above and below the fireplace, put wood paneling above the fireplace, or get a unique mantle. Ensure that your fireplace is cleaned regularly so it can be a living room focal point and not a living room mess. Bold Color or PatternA bold color or pattern on an item will make it a focal point. You can have a bold rug, curtains, throw blanket, and/or pillows. Using wallpaper is a great way to add bold color and pattern. You can even paint an entire wall a bold color, paint a unique pattern on the wall, or create texture on the wall by covering it in brick veneer that complements the colors and style of your home. Murals can also be used to add a color and a pattern. The mural can be hand painted or you can use a mural wallpaper #ad. If hand painting a mural, consider adding fun little images that reference your family members. LightingAn oversized or unique light fixture can be a beautiful focal point. Instead of boring can lights, consider using a chandelier in your living room for added appeal. View OutsideIf you have a large picture window and something beautiful to look at outside, let your view be your focal point. Your outside focal point could be a gorgeous sculptural old tree, a bird bath, a decorative fountain or water feature, a pretty plant, mountains in the background, the ocean, or whatever you have in your environment. Don't let your interiors compete with nature if your view is worthy of attention. Make sure to use simple curtains to draw a person's eye and highlight the view. Consider using outdoor lighting so the view outside is a focal point during the dark of night as well as the daytime.
