I make sock monsters for sale but have the most fun with sock monsters at workshops. It takes about 2 hours to make a sock monster for the first time in a group. The basic design uses just one ankle length sock to make a monster with two horns and two arms and legs. Extra materials include cotton thread, a needle, pins (optional), polyester stuffing, buttons for eyes. If you have knee length socks, or longer, you can create a monster with really long limbs. There are all sorts of ways to personalise your monster and modify the design but we'll keep it simple here! Please download the instructions and/or contact me for a workshop.

After designing my mini hippo blankie, I was asked to consider designing a whole hippo. After designing the larger hippo, I thought a little friend was needed, too. So these two darlings were born. Sitting approx. 9” and 7”, Hippos are knit in-the-round, using Magic Loop or double pointed needles, using approx. 290/152 yds. of #4-worsted wt. (Aran/10-ply) yarn. Large or small, these hippos make sweet companions with their adorable faces and bodies. If you know someone who would love an unusual cuddly, these hippos fit the bill!

by Imogen Harvey-Lewis, part of her Soon collection. The eyes make it. I love the way the 2-hole buttons become sleepy eyes, and the 4-hole ones are wide awake. Blogged about here: scrapiana.com/2011/05/17/sock-it-to-me/ 2011 May Minolta 314
Knit a little comfort for little ones in the form of a Rabbit, Mouse, Kitty or Bear. Yarn: Light-worsted/DK /Sport or 2 strands sock yarn held together. One yarn color for “fur” and one or more colors are used for the sweater. Less than one skein each color is needed per doll. These are a quick knit with room for creativity. Needles: “In-the-round” knitting using circular or double-pointed needles sz 3 (3.25mm), or 4 (3.5mm), whichever will give you a firm knit fabric. An Animal Comfort Doll finishes at about 6” - 7” tall, but of course, this will depend upon the weight yarn and how tightly it is knitted. The body is made in one piece. Legs and arms are defined by stitching as the body is stuffed. As with all P.K. Olson patterns, your creation is your work and yours to do with as you please. Give them away, sell them, or keep them. Just make them with love and please be considerate by not copying/selling the pattern or claiming it as your own.
