Snarky Cats!!! LOVE this set of stamps from Tim Holtz and Stampers Anonymous! And how fun is it that they pair so perfectly with the Crazy Cats and Crazy Things Stamps? Today's post features a quick birthday card using them all. Gather some Distress Inks, Distress Brushes, Sticky Grid, Distress Mixed Media Heavystock, and a stencil. I hold the paper in place with Sizzix Sticky Grid, then align the stencil and tape it at the top so you can easily lift it to see your progress. Stencil the various colors through the stencil. keeping if fairly light toward the center. Here you can see what it looks like with the stencil in place. Realign the stencil as best you can. Now you can see why you need to keep the center area light as there will be a little cross-over. Stencil the other side. Taking care with the areas of overlap. When you lift it up, you will wait until it looks like you want it to look. Stamp your Snarky Cat and sentiment on the background. Stamp your Crazy Cat and Crazy Things pieces onto a second piece of Distress Mixed Media Heavystock. Gather some Distress Markers and a Waterbrush. Watercolor the various accessories. Watercolor the cat on the background. The light inks of the background will lighten and blend in with the cat colors so if you kept the center light, you won't have to work so hard blending it in. Cut them out and ink the edges. Trim the cat's arms but NOT the paws. You want to make slits on the top and bottom of each arm to fit the milk bottles though. This is what it looks from the back. You can see a corner of the bow tie, and the two bottles going through the arm slits. Place the balloons in the top right corner and draw some string lines with a black marker. Attach the hat, bow tie and thread the milk bottles under the arms before adding a tiny drop of adhesive. I place the large milk bottle right under the cat's nose. Hello there! I'm back with another card. This one is very quirky and snarky. I have used the oh so funny Snarky Cats by Tim Holtz. The cat I used in this one went perfectly with the sentiment, its face says it all. What you need... Stamps: Tim Holtz Snarky Cats (CMS392) - Stampers Anonymous Stencil: Circle Extraordinaire (ST-122) - My Favorite Things Ink pads: Dried Marigold - Tim Holtz Distress Squeezed Lemonade Twisted Citron Tuxedo Black - Memento Embellishments: Midnight Mix Sequins - Little Things from Lucy's Cards Washi tape: Black/white houndstooth - MT Card stock: white Extras: Adhesives Masking paper - Inkadinkado What you do... 1 Cut a piece of white card stock 4"x 5¼" (10.5cm x 13.5cm) and position the stencil so it sits central. Use the stencil to get an idea where you want the cat to go. 2 Ink up the cat and stamp so it sits near the lower right corner. Stamp the cat again onto some masking paper and fussy cut out. Place over the original cat. 3 Replace the stencil and blend the inks, starting with Dried Marigold followed by Squeezed Lemonade and finishing with Twisted Citron. Remove the masking paper. 4 Add a strip of Washi tape across the bottom of the panel so it lies at an angle and immediately under the cat. 5 Stamp the sentiment at the top left of the circle. 6 Mat the panel onto a white 4¼"x 5½" (11cm x 14cm) top fold blank. Add some black sequins to decorate. I always use a quick drying dye ink to stamp the image onto the card panel and masking paper otherwise it can smudge when you ink blend over it. If you have a stamping platform, keep the cat stamp on the platform and after removing the mask, stamp over the cat with a crisp, rich ink such as Onyx Black by Versafine. This will really make the original stamped image pop with the risk of smudging. Sometimes if you don't use a quick drying dye ink on the original image, the masking paper can pick up some of the ink and transfer it onto your card panel if you have to reposition it. Not good. So when I got a hold of these Halloween Snarky Cats, I had to design with all of them. They are really too cute and so much fun! Like all of the releases for Halloween stamps this year, even the Snarky Halloween Cats are versatile enough to be used all year round. Including this guy because who doesn't eat candy all year round right? Ok, enough about these darling stamps and on to how I made this card. I wanted this cat with his tail hanging down to be sitting on something, and I thought the pumpkin was the perfect seat for a cat who had obviously gorged himself on all the Halloween candy. To do that effectively I first stamped the cat in Black Soot Archival Ink onto a piece of Distress Mixed Media Heavystock. Then I stamped him again on a piece of Judikins Eclipse Masking Paper. It comes in a big 6" roll like you see above, and is the stickiness of a post it note, but all over the back. I have a link to it below. Trim around the cat on the masking paper and adhere it over the one on the Heavystock. Here you can see the piece of Heavystock on my stamp platform. I have the original image covered with the masked image and I placed the pumpkin stamp in just the right position before I stamped it. Once the pumpkin is stamped, you can remove the mask and it will reveal a cat sitting on a pumpkin. It's much easier than it seems! I saved my cat mask by adhering it to the front of the plastic stamp index card over the image of the stamp when I replaced it. That way I can used it again a few times if I want. Next I moved on to the background. For this one, I used the same technique I used from my background post. You can see that technique tutorial here. The only difference here is that I used my hand to stamp the Tapesty stamp so it would cover the entire 4.25x5.5 inch card base. You can see a couple of places that don't have an image stamped there and it's because I pressed the stamp down in the top right corner and then moved it and pressed it down in the bottom left corner using Distress Embossing Ink. Then I heat embossed Rusty Hinge Distress Embossing Glaze over it, colored it with Black Soot Distress Ink, and proceeded with the iron-off technique. Over some of the areas of the background where I didn't get an image, I really tried to play those up to make them look worn away and add a little spooky to it. Also the addition of machine stitching really helped! When I stamped my image, I also chose the sentiment "Candy? What candy?" from the stamp set. I was trying to decide what I could do to add candy to the card, so I pulled out a Sizzix die set that Tim Holtz released last year called Sweet Treats. They are layered dies, but I just cut two of each shape, water colored them to go with the card, then glued them back to back with the twine bits in between. To make them shiny I sprayed them with some Distress Resist Spray. The stamped focal piece was water colored with Distress Inks and a waterbrush. Then I double matted it with a piece of Blackout Cardstock and a piece of Distress Heavystock colored with Crushed Olive. It's a great Halloween green and perfect Black Cat eye green. I really love how this card turned out. Nothing too difficult, but just enough work to keep me interested. and the bits of Rusty Hinge Embossing Glaze that got stuck to a few areas of the background add the perfect amount of grunge. UPDATE: Winner chosen!!! Another fun Halloween card for the Cat Lovers Blog Hop!!! Today is the LAST day to enter, but you still have a few days to show all the entrants & sponsors some love! I love the holiday SO much I truly think we should make it last longer. . . How about 2 months of Halloween? Maybe 6? Too much? I have to admit I have been longing for all the sets of snarky cats that Tim Holtz put out, but I wanted the matching dies. Now I can't find the dies for any of the sets and it seems he may be getting ready to discontinue the lot of them so I gave up. I was happy to have found this little combo which includes these stamps and a stencil which was much more inexpensive than the set so I scooped it up. I also found one for birthdays and I am sure that will be making it's debut soon. On a piece of water color paper I stamped the cat, the bat and the two sentiments. I colored in the cat and pumpkin with my Zigs then layered the panel onto the patterned paper that I had already attached to the white card base. I love the look on the cat's face! More Snarky Cats! I feel like these are Apartment Snarky Cats, all peeking out the windows while their humans are at work and most likely getting into a little mischief where they can. And surprise, this card was inspired by one of my late night binge session of Jennifer McGuire's youtube channel. LOL! I was fascinated by her Tulle Window Cards episode from 3 years ago. While I didn't use any tulle, I liked her technique for cutting windows and learned some great tips from it. So here is my version. Let's begin with the background panel on the front. This was done using the Micro Glaze Resist technique. I applied some Micro Glaze on a piece of the new Distress White Heavystock through the Doodle Art 2 THS142 Layering Stencil. Then I did the Wrinkle Free Distress technique of pressing the paper into Crackling Campfire, Speckled Egg, and Evergreen Bough Distress Inks on my nonstick Media Mat. I cut a .25" larger mat for it out of White Heavystock using the new Deckle Trimmer and then cut the center out of it making it a mat frame to go behind the front panel. This frame method is so I could sandwich the cats behind the front panel and in front of the Kraft card base, without having big bumps. While I know that these Snarky Cat framelit dies have eyes, noses, faces, and even a mouth die included, the outside shape dies are the money dies for me. That is all I used on this card, but adding the other details would be great too. I cut two of each cat. One from the Distress White Heavystock, and one from the Kraft Heavystock. This kitty was supposed to be dangling from something high up, and reaching down for the other cat's tail. The kitty in the middle apartment is trying to be all stealth, maybe sneaking up on some birds outside the window. I made the decision to let her tail stick out the window, kind of being a temptation for the cat in the top floor apartment. The kitty on the ground floor reminds me of my grey cat, Lady Jane Grey. She is always kind of just observing what my other cats are doing and can often be found just staring at things. I felt like this one felt like her. You can see that I needed to trim parts of the cats off so they didn't show outside of their apartment windows. I cut the windows in the front panel first so they were equally spaced apart, then I centered the panel on the kraft card base and outlined them on the front of the Kraft Cardstock. Put the dies over the pencil lines and cut them out of the card base. Then I colored the cats and placed them in the windows, cutting off the excess and covering them when I put the front panel on. That way they were sandwiched in between. I didn't think of this before I attached the cats, but I should have put the kraft heavystock on the back of each cat before instead of trimming them off which you can see when you open the card. The reason I cut a kraft cat and a whitestock cat is because I stamped and watercolored the cats on the white heavystock, but when you open the card and the back of the cats is white, it looks weird surrounded by the kraft. Lastly, I cut a white mat for the inside of the card using the Deckle Trimmer. I aligned the sentiment so that it fit hidden behind the front cover and was a surprise when you opened it. This card takes a little bit more of planning, but once you get started and measure everything, it's goes together fairly easily. Thank you for stopping by! My bestie had a birthday way back in July but because we've been in deep lockdown we haven't caught up since before that. Consequently - especially as she didn't want me to mail it - I hadn't had the opportunity to give her her card and gift. FINALLY we managed to catch up (single person bubble for the win!) and now I can show the card to you as well. I made a double front card because I needed three parts to play out my plan and used black and white (her fav) plus one colour. I have a Tim Holtz 'Crazy Dogs' card to share today...I find it difficult to choose just one or two dogs from this set, so always end up using all of them! I usually make a set of cards, but this time I squeezed them all on to one card! I started by stamping three of the dogs on to a large piece of watercolour paper, adding a sentiment (from the 'Everyday Sentiments' set by Happy Little Stampers). I stamped the other dogs on to snippets of watercolour paper, then cut them out using the matching 'Crazy Dogs' dies. I coloured all of the the dogs using watercolour pencils, then added the die cut dogs to the main panel using 3D foam pads. I distressed the edges of the panel a little, then added it to an A5 card blank. A Clean and Simple Card Challenge
I was so excited to pick up my Crazy Dogs stamp set from Debbie's Scrap Shack last week & couldn't wait to make a few cards with them. I started by stamping my images with Versamark on to watermark paper & embossed it with superfine black embossing powder. . I coloured my images with Distress Markers and my water pen. I masked off the image and sprinkled some Color Burst from Ken Oliver. A spritz of water and Bam! Those fantastic colours just pop! Gorgeous, right? I love these! They create a fantastic background. A sentiment stamp then adhered to my card base and I have a a quick & easy card! Using the exact same techniques, I made 5 more cards. Some I made with certain people in mind - just waiting for the perfect occasion. This stamp reminds me of my dog, Dakota. So I am sure I will use it the most. This card explains my life everyday!
